JAW-DROPPING Tornado Drone Footage Shows Kansas Town Get Ripped Apart

This extreme, jaw-dropping drone footage shows you the real destruction that a tornado is capable of causing where a town gets completely ripped apart. The evolution of this erratic vortex behavior was captured by the Dominator Drone on April 29, 2022 in Andover, Kansas. Remarkably, no lives were lost as a result of this EF3 tornado, despite immense damage and nearly 1,000 structures impacted. This just goes to show you how incredibly important tornado warnings are to helping prevent lives from being lost in such natural disasters.

Seems like most of the damage initiates from the loss of the roofing on most of the buildings. Perhaps some new design is required that makes the roofing resistant to the "pull" of the vortices and would go some way to saving many buildings and their occupants.
@ReedTimmerWx

Yes maybe a design similar to the hurricane proof homes of FL would be ideal

You can get roofing that can survive an F1 maybe an F2, but after that there's not much you can do. There's a picture on the web of a supposedly tornado-proof home in Oklahoma that got shredded by an F4.

@@edcella181 I believe it was a concrete dome home, great design to withstand tornadoes but it took a direct hit from a high-end EF4. The dome was still standing, but it had serious structural damage all across it and all the windows/doors were gone.

Absolutely the most unusual footage I have ever seen. The transparency is insane. Surely this helps with research? Anyway this is the perfect example of how a tornado can be "invisible" on the ground until enough debris is pulled up or the dark funnel goes low enough to the ground. It also shows how a tornado can seem to not be strong from the ground when it is. I share this fact all of the time.

I'm an old geezer who has been interested in severe weather since the 1960's after watching a tornado as it ripped across the the town I live near. I've been an avid watcher of any and every film or video footage of tornadoes for decades, and while this entire video is extraordinary, I have to say that the first 30 seconds or so of this video have to be the most remarkable footage of a tornado ever recorded, absolutely amazing!

I think back in the 90s there was some jawdropping helicopter footage of a "drill bit" tornado (to use the popular new euphemism) going across a forested area. I think the speed of that thing may have exceeded this one, perhaps you've seen it. But it was plucking trees from the ground and throwing them a thousand feet in the air and I think at one point it even tore a bunch of water from a pond. Either way, the video above is next level for sure (not the least of which for sheer clarity and stability).

Not only because they are the reason I live, but also the fact that I'm more likely to die in that one single car ride moving than here in a tornado. STILL, I understand why you feel the way you do. This is the most incredible tornado footage I think I've ever seen. This vantage point makes it clear why so many witnesses said the tornado dropped down, then went back up and dropped down again. From where they were on the ground, their view of the bottom of the tornado was obscured, and the condensation shaft didn't go all the way down, but the wind vortex certainly did and the tornado was on the ground the whole time. Just amazing. Glad you were able to find your drone again.

@Buds of Spring I was about to write the same. I have survived two Tornadoes, one in '65, and one while I was golfing in '80 and had no shelter, lucky the last one I was caught standing outside, heard the roar of a train, my Dad beside me, and I said "there's no train tracks within five miles of here", then I took a few steps towards the clubhouse, and I was just surrounded by sepia colored dust, luckily hit with just some twigs but they stung like a honeybee. Maybe it was over us fifteen seconds, seemed like time went into slow motion. The wind was pushing on me from all sides of my body, I felt like I was in a straight jacket. And it was gone, and I looked back at my Dad, who was staring in another direction--the golf course's tallest tree, about 75 feet with a trunk four feet thick, was broken at its base like a toothpick, about 30 yards away from me. 45 minutes prior to all that, there was not a single cloud in the sky, the forecast only called for "unsettled weather". The course was crowded on the first nine holes, we were teeing off for the tenth hole, but thinking of calling it a day because the other golfers wanted to rush our game, so they could play thru. Twenty minutes after the Tornado went thru, which only stripped some shingles off of the clubhouses and toolsheds, in a light mist, with the greens of four holes caught in the path of the Tornado covered with twigs, my Dad and I looked at each other, and finished our round of golf, everyone else was scared off the course, except for the owners, who knew us well. I picked up the nickname "Elijah", though I was not carried into the heavens by the F0.5 Tornado, small as it was, my Dad said the funnel enveloped me and he did not expect to see me standing where I was. Natural disasters are not beautiful--the only beauty I have found, since I have been in a half dozen good earthquakes and one hurricane, is that I and those near me survived, and listened to me when I told them how to take shelter.

I'm 27 and have been fascinated by tornadoes ever since I was 5. In all my years, I can say with certainty that this is the best footage i've ever seen. While they exist, not too many videos show what a building being destroyed looks like from the outside as its happening with the clarity this, and another drone video that came out this year. The ones that do are either shakey phone/security footage, most of the time just the immediate before and aftermath. With this you can actively make out every shape the wind takes, how building material reacts and what its specific breaking point is etc. Drone footage like this, if studied correctly by the right people, may one day lead to safer, more durable homes and buildings.

I have seen this live twice and if you didn't look down or had a grove of tree's in the way you might have reported rotating funnel/stove pipe cloud but unsure if it touched down...in the first instance, 10 mins later I drove to the neighbor's to check on them to find they lost half their cows...literally didn't find them for a couple hours...as other neighbors inspected for damage and losses they reported having x amount of cows added to their herds...not a fence was damaged and the cows were returned...bruised, minor cuts but none were perished or unfit to milk that night. The other twisted our railroad crossing 180 degrees and twisted 1 brand new trailer house to make it look like a spiral, one end still tornado strapped to the ground the other sitting on the leveling blocks but on it's side...the wrought iron steps still in there spot along with a cheap plastic Walmart kiddy pool with water still in it...but the cement bird bath was on top of a garage half a block up the tornado path...it was just bizarre the weird things that happened...that you always hear about and nod to while saying yup, uhhuh, ok, sure in your head...

That is hands down the most insane footage I’ve ever seen. Literally viewing the contact point with the ground. Amazing what drones can capture with a higher viewpoint. I can’t wait to see what scientific analysis is done on this video. Most importantly my thoughts and prayers go to those effected by this storm.

I've NEVER seen a tornado almost spin up out of nowhere & be that destructive that fast, especially with no rain/thunderstorms accompanying it. Amazing footage! I pray all of those people in this clip are ok

It’s so sad that this tornado went into neighborhoods where people live. I’m glad to hear that there were no casualties, hoping for the best for the people of Andover.

@@bobsmith3931 what about someone having their own religious beliefs bothers you so badly to where you have to comment on them like that? I’m atheist but I have nothing against others having religion. Bet you can’t wait till Christmas to tell all the little kids about Santa too.

I'm sad to see people's homes and lives being destroyed it's always upsetting and my heart and prayers go out to everyone affected. There have been many awesome videos of tornadoes by themselves in a field etc. However, this is the best extended footage of a tornado hitting structures I have ever seen. It really helps glue together all the little bits I have learned over the years about tornados. This video is a physics lesson, a weather lesson, and a tornado lesson all in one . Bravo to Reed Timmer and his team. You have a new subscriber in me.

It makes me sad to see the horrific damage a tornado can do to a house --- I just imagine if a family was huddled inside and suddenly these horrific winds suck the entire structure up into the sky a 1000 feet and rip it asunder!
