Great question! This exercise is backed by scientific research and was published through the Sleep Foundation as Tongue Exercise #2: Tongue Stretch. The article was recently updated though, so stay tuned as we try more exercises to help stop snoring and improve OSA. Link to Article: www.sleepfoundation.org/snoring/mouth-exercises-to-stop-snoring

@HappilyAnonymousGirl
@HappilyAnonymousGirl 10 месяцев назад
Sounds like you may have a tongue tie. If you don’t know what that is, it’s skin attacked to the underside of your tongue that connects to the bottom part of your mouth. You can see it clearly if you have one by auctioning your tongue to the roof of your mouth. If you can’t do that, then I’d recommend getting evaluated by an ENT doctor. They can release the tie and free your tongue. It can help with a lot of stuff if you have one and get it revised, if it’s really short or tight.

Definitely sounds like your sister could benefit from this exercise, but we strongly recommend seeking that consultation with her doctor about a CPAP as well, especially since she's a victim of stroke! @aeroflowsleep
@aeroflowsleep Год назад
Losing weight is a great start, but it won't necessarily correct your symptoms of sleep apnea. If you already suspect you have OSA, please talk to your doctor about having a sleep study done. This will tell them exactly how severe your symptoms really are and if you need to seek additional treatment options beyond lifestyle changes; like PAP therapy.

Yes, we do! Researchers have found that doing repetitive oropharyngeal exercises while you're awake can help keep the tissue from becoming excessively floppy and vibrating during sleep. Several studies have shown that toning these muscles has been shown to help reduce snoring and milder forms of obstructive sleep apnea, but this one was looked at specifically: Guimarães, K. C., Drager, L. F., Genta, P. R., Marcondes, B. F., & Lorenzi-Filho, G. (2009). Effects of oropharyngeal exercises on patients with moderate obstructive sleep apnea syndrome. @aeroflowsleep
@aeroflowsleep Год назад
Vulgarity aside, yes! Tongue exercises certainly aren't conventional, so any way you can extend your tongue over a prolonged period of time and at multiple angles would help with OSA. Just be sure that if you do have sleep apnea, you don't substitute a more fun activity for PAP therapy, because the latter is still the gold standard of treatment.

@aeroflowsleep
@aeroflowsleep 7 месяцев назад
@@Yewerd It sounds like your condition is focused on the breathing pattern itself and not sleep apnea, so this exercise may not be right for you. What this exercise does is improve OSA (or obstructive sleep apnea,) toning the various facial muscles that may cause an obstruction. Furthermore, the Buteyko Method (or mouth taping) is not something we recommend for sleep apnea patients; here's our blog to learn more... shop.aeroflowsleep.com/blog/is-mouth-taping-healthy-for-cpap-users-what-three-sleep-experts-believe Always consult with your doctor about which exercises make the most sense for your specific needs.

I’m a side sleeper and I still snore really bad. What could be the cause?
@aeroflowsleep
@aeroflowsleep Год назад
Being a side sleeper may be best for OSA, but it definitely doesn't get rid of the possibility that you have sleep apnea. Your obstruction may be caused by enlarged tonsils or adenoids or a stop-gap between your tongue and the soft palate of your mouth. You could also have CSA instead; this type of sleep apnea occurs not from an obstruction but from your brain signals failing to keep the throat muscles open while you sleep. Ask your doctor is you should be tested for sleep apnea!

Can I have sleep apnea if I sleep on my stomach ?
@aeroflowsleep
@aeroflowsleep Год назад
That's a great question! Yes, you can definitely have sleep apnea if you sleep on your stomach. In fact, you can have sleep apnea regardless of your sleeping position, but back and stomach sleepers may have it worse. That's because gravity pushes your throat muscles down when you sleep on your back or stomach, making the cause of collapse and obstruction more likely. Always try to sleep on your side if you have OSA!
