Same here. It started with September 11th, and crystallised during the run-up to the Iraq war. After that, I never looked at politics in the same way. Amazes me that anyone believes what the government says, regardless of the party.
Pre-Iraq: in the final analysis, I felt obliged to give politicians the benefit of the doubt. Since Iraq, I've always assumed they cannot be trusted. Ultimately, Covid 'pandemic' or Biden's 'win' are the harvest of this. Where there is any doubt, one has to assume the politicians are lying. Thank you Tony for making me grow up.

Tony Blair, not many will miss him when he is gone, but we should all remember him as an example of how low humans can sink, when the dark side prevails.
Haven't watched all of this yet, but my default reaction is Blair is far more evil than Lorgar ever was. Lorgar at least sought the truth that ended up being bad, Blair sought an end and cared nothing for the harm done to bring it about.

I think Peter Hitchens is correct in his insistence that New Labour was way more extreme than most people realise. Guys like Corbyn are woefully simple-minded compared to the sophisticated Newspeak of Blairism.
He's quite clearly flexing on Starmer while also directing him. "Look at the power I still retain in the media, look at how popular I still am despite the party trying to do everything to write me out of its history. This is what you have to do if you want to get elected, Keir." It wouldn't be anywhere near as effective if he told him this in private. By doing it in public, he displays not only his connections, not only his remaining popularity and competence, but also he's giving Starmer something of a blueprint to navigate modern politics in the way Blair clearly understands better than just about anyone around.

Blair was unquestionably the worst Prime Minister Britain ever had. Not because of the Iraq War but because of opening up the borders and the devastating effect that had on the working class English of the post-industrial towns. The role of his immigration minister Barbara Roche is central to this. A woman who just loved diversity. Douglas Murray goes into quite a bit of detail on it in his book. Blair is a good example of how someone can seem likeable and empathetic on the surface, but be pure evil underneath.
I still have centrist mates (don't hold it against me) who, to this day, insist that Blair was a common-sense centrist, and who actually celebrate his 'achievements' and yearn for his return to politics. It's utterly mind-boggling the way he's pulled the wool over so many people's eyes.
His son is extremely rich too, he runs one of those organisations with a do-gooder front that you've never heard of and they never seem to do much except make millions. They all start their own institution or foundation.

They described it as a disgusting shithole that should never have happened. For that reason, I don’t think I’ll ever face going there. I now live in a small rural village that you’ve never heard of and in the last 2 years, the entire town centre is virtually entirely Middle Eastern. All shops, restaurants etc are now gone, replaced with cheap fried chicken or kebab joints pretty much with all with smashed windows and a Fuckin bong shop is now next to the Georgian town hall. We have 5 primary schools, 4 are foreign majority and 1 is over 99% entirely white whose parents chose it because ‘it’s the best’ stand outside calling Brexit racist. You couldn’t make it up. They surely know as when you see the kids, it’s a shock how white they are considering the other schools. I really don’t see them publishing an honest account of the recent census, and I’m happy to live in bliss to be fair.

Interesting character, Blair. I remember him appearing on the R4 Today program in the early 90s and sounding so plausible. I wonder if his real, covert, purpose, looking back, was to destroy the Labour Party and disenfranchise/depower the Working Class, because that is what has happened.

You know, I think Lorgar is a more complex character. His father scolded him for noticing the spiritual. And, because he was denied the right to cultivate a good spiritual force, he turned to an evil one instead. And, in the end, the document which effectively saved the Imperium from total fragmentation in its darkest hour and gave the people a common ethos to rally behind was his religious text. In the end, his spiritualist aspirations were vindicated.

Great stuff as always, made me think of 2 things: there was a Scottish communist (I forget the name) who left that, became a Catholic and then an agnostic. His unacknowledged core belief was that universal justice could be achieved within society and every time a system failed him he just shed it and moved on. The other primarchs call lorgar weak and I feel now that this weakness is his inability to examine his true self. Also when you talk about how lightly Blair initiated mass immigration I'm reminded of the CIA sponsoring modern art, they created an aesthetic cancer that destroyed a whole society's ability to create beauty all so they could one up the USSR by calling it artistically calcified.
It is true that Blair has done more harm to our country than any predecessor, but it seems plain to me that he was not operating on his own deluded wisdom, for the simple reason that those who have followed him, regardless of political affiliation have followed the same path, rather than halting it. I listened to an interview iwth a Russian journalist who was discussing the so-called Russian threat and the West's urging of Ukraine to invade the disputed areas of the Donbass. Moscow took the West by surprise by building up its forces rapidly to counter the Ukrainian threat and the West backed away from what looked like WW3 for a few weeks in April (not on BBC of course). Russian journo made the point that the ultra liberals did not wnat WW3 because their whole focus is on transhumanism, uploading themselves and living forever in the cloud; therefore perishing in a nuclear holocaust is not on their agenda. They fear death above all things.
You don't seem to understand the Russian situation. Putin is like Saddam, he is controlling a highly corrupt and factional country that has nuclear capabilities and although relatively impoverished and broken, if/when Putin vacates his position there is the potential for Russia to become tyrannical and go down the route of nuclear war. It's possible to have sympathy for the way Russia is demonised, or at least see through the propaganda, yet at the same time this is a country that openly sends it spies to kill on foreign soil and lies about it brazenly with a nod and a wink to the world media. It is far less controlled than China, it is a country reeling from the failure of the USSR and hasn't come to terms with its decline. The fact it retains significant stake in the middle east, has aligned with China, and has nuclear weaponry is a threat. At the same time, it's possible to see through the ridiculous demonisation of Russia in the west as little more than self-interested propaganda to set the ground for any potential conflict or subversion of Putin and/or his successors.
Also I wouldn't read too much in to military posturing and petty war in eastern Europe, at least in terms of sparking a nuclear holocaust. Russia has been pushing westwards since at least 2008, with another surge in 2014-16. At the moment, it's not led by idiots. They know their limitations and they know the stakes with the legacy of the cold war still very much a reality for most of them. It's the danger of those who replace them, who are swelled on romantic ideas of the cold war and 'righting' the wrongs of the fall of the USSR, that are the real danger.

There's something to be said about how 40k's Imperium of man was based around the politics of the Thatcherite era of Britain as confirmed by authors such as Dan Abnett. In this sense you really could see Lorgar as some one like Tony Blair.

There's a german term for that; 'Gutmensch', literally meaning 'good man', which is a derogatory for people who believe to be good people doing good things out of narcissistic, selfish and self-righteous virtue signaling and who end up ruining everything for everybody else. Came into usage mainly in regard to pro-immigration german leftists after the 2015 migrant crisis and the damage it has caused to the country and to german society ever since. This was an outstanding rant and totally nailed the character of Blair. Not for him Oppenheimer's famous introspection on seeing the first Atom Bomb test, "I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds". His Christian faith must play a big part - anything he does he assumes is "God's plan" and thus absolves himself of guilt. I remember my mother once saying that all of the worst people she'd met in her life had been bible bashers.
@@thomasjohnston8970 She believed in God but in a very low key way; not church-going or anything. So, I guess she wasn't saying ALL religious people are bad or she'd have had to include herself. She had a boss who was very religious and also a right bastard in the workplace. I have heard this from someone else too, religious boss who was a nasty piece of work. Her view was that very religious people are frequently also be very bad people, which seems contradictory given their stated belief system. I would not say religion is the problem per se, but that for some bad people it gives them the capacity to do great evil without feeling any guilt.
