47 years of age here, all I remember is my DAD singing this all the way to work and along with the 8track player in his Ford Capri, I met Tony a few years ago now and he signed my cassette I bought off him :)
Toni, Toni, Toni! What a Great Singer & Entertainer saw him yesterday in Harlem, Netherlands and he's still in very Good shape, even he's older than in the Days of my Parents youth, he's still Great. Thank's to Mother Earth that this Man is still around. Hollyday Greatings from the Netherlands where TC is on Tour.
Remember this song being placed at premier league play off final in Cardiff. Think the whole stadium sang along and waving flags awesome sight still gives goosebumps whenever I hear it.
I've only just worked out that the guy on the treadmill is kind of a tribute to when Peter Kay did it, he was on a treadmill with Parky & Ronnie Corbett.
@@tonychristis8097 By the way check out the book "1971 never a dull moment", by David Hepworth. It is an indepth book about the music of that year. The same year that you had your biggest hit Amerillo.
Tony Christie is God... 16 April 1972 ... I'm eight years old and returning to Waterford on a coach from Cork after Waterford had nicked three goals in the last twelve minutes to beat Cork Hibs 3-2 and thereby snatch the League of Ireland title from the Corkmen in front of 26,000 people. My uncle Fran brought me with him on the day. I don't know how many times the lads on the coach sang Amarillo on the way back. Tony Christie is God.
Lol this song was sung by Falkirk FC fans way back in 1987 when we went on a preseason tour to Darlington and the song is played over the tannoy everytime Falkirk score a goal now..great memories..sha na na na na na Falkirk..:)
Dude Fallkirk is the great name of any club in history and just for that I've been an fan while not being scottish myself :) Knowing the fans of this club are hummin this absolute 70s classic, makes me even proud of you FALKIRK Fans !
Jerome Lange ahh thanks man..I no longer live in Scotland myself am down here in England but we still get up to see the bairns now and again..cheers fur the nice comment its usually abuse from other teams fans lol
I think the treadmill was also there to evoke the Comic Relief sketch, which featured various celebrities walking along in pairs, as the song was played. The popularity of the sketch was really what made the song such a hit for the second time. (If you've never seen it, it's fairly easy to find on youtube.)
Chunkymonkey7 Not really as they will know because it’s a live performance and he’s older it will sound different plus TOTP did on occasion have live performances rather than lip sync
I think the guy on the treadmill needs to be running a little faster...let's set the 'speed' to 1.25. ;) Surprisingly, the song works well at this speed...actually I think it's better at this tempo. A very uplifting song..never get tired of listening to it. :)
how would know how good his voice is? TOTP is ALWAYS full Playback. The only Band to ever play without Playback there was Iron Maiden, because the refuse to do Playbacks
