I met him in the 1980s -- I was a stewardess for Pan Am and it was a late evening flight from LAX to SFO -- he was boarded last as we did for all our celebrities - It was a Boeing 727 stretch aircraft with few people onboard. We were about to leave when the gate agent tried to close the aircraft door and it was stuck! Well, Tony Curtis, the agent, and I tried and tried to get that door closed ---lifting and pulling the door with Mr. Curtis doing a fabulous job - finally, when we were all exhausted, we succeeded! He and I laughed and laughed -- I got out the Pierre Panda child's kit and Mr. Curtis and I played some silly game -- he was so delightful, kind, and charming. He was still incredibly handsome and wore a white silk scarf, navy sweater, and jeans with a knife-edged crease. It is one of my most cherished memories! A delightful, down-to-earth, real star.

Greatly underrated, one of his little credited roles is in THE OUTSIDER, in which he portrays Iwo Jima hero Ira Hayes. After Hayes loses his best friend on the island, he later confronts his late friend's mother while on a bond tour. He lays his head on her lap and cries copious tears as she affectonately caresses his head. It is one of the most moving scenes in any motion picture and Curtis carries it off with great professionalism.

William Overly totally agree. He was the most underrated actor in Hollywood. He played many Oscar worthy parts.. he had fantastic comic timing when playing lighter roles but also had great depth in darker roles. Loved him with Roger in the Persuaders , it was a comic genius pairing .

He actually did the voice of Stony Curtis on the Flintstones. Cary Grant refused to do the voice of Gary Granite.

Playing a parody of oneself on ' The Flintstones ' was a covered honor in those days. Appearing on ' Batman ' and ' The Muppets Show ' were also considered high achievements. I suppose because the ratings were so high, actors sought these opportunities. I did not know Cary Grant felt differently, but I do recall that ' Ann Margrock ' was very happy to appear as a stone age version of herself.

Tony Curtis idolized Cary Grant. After receiving an Oscar nomination for Some Like It Hot, he requested doing his next film with Cary Grant which was called Operation Pettycoat. My favorite film with Tony Curtis is The Great Race. Tony is basically playing himself, but he's so good at it. He was excellent in The Vikings, Boston Strangler, and Spartacus.

I’ve learned more about the acting craft from Tony Curtis interviews than from any of Marlon Brando. Tony was transparent, maybe a little too much but he always gives you these nuggets of wisdom acquired through experience. Started as a sexy toy boy and ended been one great actor in his own right.

He was reliable and very professional but I don't think I have ever seen him when he wasn't overshadowed by somebody else. For instance, he played 2nd fiddle to Cary Grant, Burt Lancaster, Kirk Douglas, Jack Lemmon, Gregory Peck, Sidney Poitier, and Frank Sinatra. But yeah, it's hard to stand tall against a company like that...

Micah Keres that’s not true ... he stole the film in Some like it Hot and made many other movies where he was truly mesmerising.... he was one of the greats but not properly credited. It’s a travesty .

I remember reading that Tony Curtis did not even consider himself a ' star ' until after he did " The Great Race " . Such humility is often the result of an impoverished childhood. Many of our favorite stars demonstrated this effect.

Which one? He had four daughters all of whom hated him because he was so self involved. Jamie Lee talks about how when she was successful he tried to ingratiate himself in her life but continued to ignore her siblings. She says it was this scum that introduced her to freebasing cocaine. As he aged and couldn't keep a wife, he reconciled with his kids (obviously so he would have people to look after him). But then after all of that, he left them nothing. ZERO. Clearly just to spite them from the grave. He had a total of 6 kids from 3 wives, fyi
