VillacherBier07 I played all the Tony hawk games up through American Wasteland. Haven't played any of the newest ones. THPS1 was a great start to the franchise, but was always a little too clunky. THPS2 made a lot of improvements, and was a great game when it came out, but doesn't have the long lasting appeal of the later ones. THPS3 is a great game. I had no complaints about it at the time and it played brilliantly. The only issue I had with it, is once I got to "sick" skill level, it's too easy to beat the entire game in 20-30 minutes without even putting a ton of effort into it. Then you have THPS4 which basically keeps the same engine as 3, but makes the game much more expansive and actually takes a proper video game time length to beat, which is why it's still replayable today and is the best in the series. After 4 they started bringing in things that didn't work as well and each one got progressively worse. 3 and 4 are *clearly,* undeniably, the best in the series and I prefer 4 for the ability to play it longer than 25 minutes without having to start over and do the same goals again.
ItzShine • Minecraft PvP I've played THPS3 many times. Like I said, I can play all the way through #3 in about 25-30 minutes, which is why 4 is better to me
Thps 1-4 were really solid games and then they made American Wasteland which was a slap in the face as a huge fan of the first four. That was a ridiculous run through, that dude conquered some shit in seconds that made me go crazy trying to beat. The snake run was the most insane by far.
xRuing yeah dude that took me all day to beat when I first played thps 4, also in my opinion I really think if they make another one they should stick to this sort of structure. I thought it was pointless getting off the board to pick up stuff, I hated that. This game rolls so much better when it is just skating.
Simon Keel I don't know man, honestly I LOVED the original THUG. The feeling of getting off your board was so rad in a Tony Hawk game. Overall though, yeah when you could only skate without your board, you were basically forced to do something 24/7 which I loved doing. Challenges, personal records, random tricklines... Whatever it was, you were always doing something. I did like the aspect of being able to run and walk around if you wanted to take a break or something though.
Jabronie Johnson I don't know it is just personal preference I guess. I just liked 1-4 because of how straight forward the gameplay was. I liked how there were objectives and a time limit it made it somewhat challenging. Except the combos, some of those were impossible.
I am 18 years old, I loved the hell out of this game when I when I was 9 It's been 9 years and I still haven't 100 percent completed this game. And honestly I had to enter some cheats to beat the damn thing
GeorgeThePlushie No worries. A huge fan of the run by the way, also subscribed cause I'm looking forward to seeing other nifty stuff. I understand you don't talk alot trying to get a PB but runs where you talk along most of the stuff you do would be really cool to watch
GeorgeThePlushie Just some added info for those that don't know; the London level in the game is based on Trafalgar Square and the surrounding area (SB in the goals stands for South Bank, the south bank of the River Thames). Trafalgar Square is the area with the fountains and the massive column (Nelson's Column), the road towards the quarter pipe heads towards Buckingham Palace, although in real life it is much further away. Basically, the game squashes the main bits of London into a much smaller area, although it's still quite neat.
+Cory Baxter Agreed, Thug2 and AW were fun in their own way, but Thug1 was the last that really focused on skating. For me, the "classics" period ends at Thug1. In fact, the Thug versions of the old school levels (Venice beach, and I think School II) were better than the recent Tony Hawk HD attempt.
9:58 lol. i remember the first time i tried to do that goal when i was a kid. i was so frustrated i think i actually stopped playing for a week lol. i got it down pretty quick when i came back tho. 14:45 was extremely annoying too. such good times man. i'm on a mission to rebuy all of the games i've broken and neglected when i was a kid. super nintendo games, n64 games, and playstation games i had it all... it's crazy how much the price has gone up in some of these games like they were just released yesterday. i better buy them before it's too late and some of these games get to $100 lol.
The first four were the best. I remember being a little kid and getting to play them after school. The going out and skating with my friends. All thanks to the tony hawk video games
Gotta love the haters of pretty much every comment section on youtube trying to bring another person down to make themselves feel better. =] Hopefully you don't let it get to you, and fuckin DOPE run man!
It's three inputs, the same as console. The specials I start with are Semi Flip (an extremely fast special with good point value and capable of being landed from a normal ollie), Indy 900 (the highest scoring special trick in the game but among the longest, also can't be spun; mainly used to cheese competitions due to a programming oversight), One Wheel Fireworks Show (the fastest to register special manual, helps with multiplier and adds decent base score), 5-0 Fingerflip Nosegrind (special grinds really aren't necessary; this one is nice to have because it allows you to jump super late off grinds due to the way animations in the game work).
+Tom Chambers Hey, thanks for trying to help me improve my RU-vid channel. I never would have considered something like that without your input. I'll certainly take it into consideration.
I'm 19 about to turn 20, loved this and all the other tony hawk games from the era, now that I think back on it, probably influenced me to start skating, don't anymore though. Like if you feel the same
THUG was my first introduction to the series, then THAW, then I went back to play THPS3 and THPS4. They were a lot of fun to play, but for me, most of the fun came from THAW and THUG. The multiplayer madness, getting off the board and doing a 180, then throwing fireballs at friends, that was the shit.
Why can't you cheese the competition in Shipyard? Man, some missions were such a pain, it's amazing how you succeed so easily (especially in the shipyard/kona).
Game was hard for me as a 9 year old compared to thps 3. Never forget the slalom at kona 😩 plus it took me ages to figure out the zoo was elephant crash
5:08 I don't know how Neversoft screwed up the competitions in the THPS games...speedrunners do one trick only and beat a professional skater, Tony Hawk...who probably does more cool trick--I don't understand THPS logic! If THPS5 does this too...watch it break competitions just as easily as THPS4!
After approx 12/13 years i started and played this again 4 days ago, and just finished it 30 minutes ago, also all "pro" goals which were pretty tough, especially for a (maximum) mediocre gamer like me. best highscore is a lousy 7 million, its nothing compared to the billion point shit ive seen few moments ago. still best the tony hawk game in my opinion, at least from those who i played (only really played until thug1, thug2 a lil and proving ground a lil on nds).
Why don't smile more often ?! I got depressed just looking at your sad, angry face. No offense, but it didn't look like you were enjoying your time with THPS 4. ;)
The English fella who you say you still don't understand says "woah round Trafalgar Square and then some, I don't have that kinda skill". Also sick run
Hey man, this looks really neat! I am planning on running this soon, and this will no doubt be a good reference video. Since I am more adept with the gamecube version, I will use a gamecube controller with my Bliss-Box. For a starting THPS4 speedrunner,do you have any tips that might help?
Drill the goals. Work on movement and scoring. Get good at playing without balance stats so you can invest your stat points in more worthwhile stats like speed. It's a pretty straight forward game, and the time you put into it really shows when you do runs.
Alright, thanks a lot! I didn't know that this game was ran enough to have a great WR like this. I was about to study it and route it myself! Glad to save some time. Thanks for taking the time to give me some pointers. :)
Nice Job George. You did a good job on that run. 38m 23s. Nice Work. You off by .26 seconds from getting a 38m 24s. And, this run is good. I saw other people's SpeedRun. They are good. But, this is another good run that I like to see. You are the 18th Person to get the best SpeedRun time in this game. Congrats on that run. You did amazing. I think that you could get under 37m 59s I know you could do it.
I'm playing this game on PC, too but I am experiencing serious frame rate issues and lag spikes especially on some maps (San Fran, Shipyard, Kona) RivaTuner doesn't work either. Any suggestions on how you get solid FPS throughout?
