Man .. the amount of times I have watched this solo.. I saw this for the first time after downloading it from limewire about 20 years ago. My mind was blown then, and again watching it just now.. 🤯
@@bertt_y yeah, it had been a few years, and I feel like i can appreciate it even more. I knew it was crazy back in the day, but hearing the control of dynamics, timing, rhythm. . .just masterful
40 years of drumming and trying to always find the best musicians possible, this might be the most perfect, well put-together drum solos I have ever, I mean ever heard.
Yeah, that's what really struck me too. For all the weapons-grade technique on display, his sense and execution of color, timing, drama and long-range form building are astonishing for a person of his age. It's positively Mozart-ian.
For a 12 year old to explore ideas and return to them later to the extent that Tony did in this solo is remarkable. Nevermind the flawless execution..!
This is simply the best solo ever played for all the drummers in the world. It's built from techniques that are not only spectacular but very musical if you play them in the band! They would be otherwise lost forever!
i remember when i was 12 and only a few months into playing, i saw this video and felt like giving up, but eventually it became a great motivator. classic solo
All things considered, this is still the most shocking drumming showcase I've ever seen. This is above Buddy Rich. That a twelve-year-old could play it is nothing short of a miracle. I know this is an insane statement, but this was Tony Royster's peak. He never performed anything as unbelievable as this.
