Lmao I love how Paulie keeps looking for the Virgin Mary in this scene. That previous experience when he was alone at the Bing has clearly traumatized him.
The whole series was tony running out of time! It was genius. By this scene, most of his friends were gone, the ones left were turning on him. The feds were on him and he had New York guys wanting him smoked. Where everything was fun and lively at the beginning , it was now a ticking time bomb
Metaphor for everyone's life, just sped up? We're all on a running out clock. We're all getting older, losing family members and friends to illness, old age, accidents, crime. Ourselves facing illness/old age etc.. It all comes to an end in the end. All good things must end and maybe they come back again. Hehe.
They ended the show with so much more than “did Tony die” Tony’s lawyer tells him on the phone that Carlo flipped and he’s looking at 90% indictment. Tony Soprano as a mob boss was fucked
That's why I tell people the ending is depending on how do you think of Tony. If you want him to suffer, then the cut to black is nothing, he went home, sleep, keep on living until his inevitable downfall as a mob boss comes. Carmella is going to leave him for it with all the money is taken away, Meadow and AJ wouldn't be able to do anything about it either. To rub salt to the injury, Meadow studied law to help her dad, but at this rate, Tony's done for. Or if you feel bad for Tony for all he went through, then he got his brain blown out in front of his family. A bloody but quick and merciful end. Carmella and the kids would mourn him, but they'll move on. If the kids are smart, they will never ever going involved with mob business again, especially Meadow.
@@korawitbuttramee618 you don’t think they would all have severe trauma and ptsd from seeing their dad/husband have their brains blown out directly in front of them?? especially AJ? Tony surviving and going to prison is a better ending for the family
@@lizzy6333 I should've specified that those scenarios were for Tony himself only. It would be an extremely shitty experience for them, of course. But they will move on sooner or later. However, Tony is jail pretty much left him in a fate worse than death where he sees people who he cares about the most drifting away from him and he cannot do anything from behind the bars. Carmella is gonna divorce him since the reason she stayed at all was the money and money will be gone if Tony is jailed. Didn't say she didn't love the kids, but if the kids were her main priority, she would have left Tony long ago. I can't see Carmella visit him in prison either but I can see the kids visiting their dad behind her back. Say, he gets out 20 years later, Tony would find nothing for him outside. His gang was already in a miserable bunch of old thugs so I doubt they'd be in business. Even if they somehow survive, Tony would still have zero pulls in it since all the old guards are likely dead and he was already on the verge of getting disposed near the end of S6. Hell, he might get to taste his own medicine like how he made Junior believe he ran the gang if the new guys even bother to humor him.
@@korawitbuttramee618 it was over for everyone in their crew at the end. The show played true to life finally as it was coming to a conclusion. There aren't happy endings on a mob life
The last 9 episodes of this show were so goddamn good. The last 5 episodes blew me away. I'll never see another show finish on such a high note. The action and tension between Jersey and New York and within Tony's family were such an incredible way to close out the best show I'll ever watch.
Then he tells Patsy since his son always hung out with Carlo's son. Chances were that Patsy's son was going down next. Surprised Tony didn't have him whacked to make sure he kept his mouth shut.
Carlo had been in charge of the docks & recently had been bumped up to run the Esplanade - he knew the details of the family's big money makers - with Tony getting out of Garbage, falling out with Hesh, & the big chains taking over the highstreet they didn't have much bread and butter earners left - basically gambling and legacy extortion / money lending was all they had left. So more and more of them turned to drug dealing, and cut deals when caught, each taking another line of business down with them.
Well it was early in the morning after all *it's always empty around that time*, I don't think they'd of shut down the Bing even for a few months as it's a giant revenue stream for them-more importantly it's a lowkey HQ and a way to launder a lot of money-if Tony made it out of his coma I like to think Silvio definitely did at some point, and seeing as I'm confident Tony wasn't nonsensically killed at the end he comes back running the Bing and as T's consigliere :)
@@paulcolletti8727 Carlo doesn't know "everything" as he's just a captain, FBI had every single phone Tony had bugged for multiple years-not to mention guys like Pussy ratting him & others out-by the way Tony handles himself in this life I'd honestly be doubtful if Carlo had anything concrete to give on T, if Pussy couldn't give them anything Carlo sure as shit can't 👀
Tony told Carlo "Fuck that honor and loyalty shit." Carlo took that ball and ran with it. Like a true...eh...sports guy that plays at a high level. I forget the term.
Even if Tony survived the series finale, he probably didn’t have much time left in his life as he’d known it. Either he’d be facing finally doing some real time- Tony’s lawyer informs him near the end that Carlo flipped and Tony is looking at 80-90% chance of indictment, or because of his increasingly unhealthy, risk-taking, self-destructive lifestyle he probably wouldn’t have lived too much longer.
The real life Tony Soprano, Vinny Ocean, flipped to the FBI when facing what Tony was facing. But he was exposed as living in Texas by the NY tabloids and now is in hiding partially again. When bosses are flipping you know the mafia is on its way out in America.
I like to think tony died at the restaurant but only after giving birth to a baby boy.. then AJ and Meadow fall in love and raise him together with the bear in the backyard but only after Carmella moves the pool furniture in the pool house finally after tony had neglected to do so since Carmella told him she wanted to turn on the sprinklers and they got wet instead since they were his chairs and not hers..
Not if Carlo thought his life was in danger. And also if the feds thought they had all they need to indict Tony then there's no reason to endanger Carlo by putting him back on the street.
I Don't think Carlo was going to be an active informant. Because of his sons arrest I believe he promised to give a sworn testimony on everything he did with Tony. The other rats like Ray Curto, Eugene, and Pussy never gave anything of value because they would have to admit to murdering people themselves. Carlo was probably gonna be kept in custody, But lead the FBI to all the bodies and stolen shit Tony has.
David Chase based Carlo loosely on Sammy the Bull. When Tony made that wisecrack about loyalty to Carlo over Bobby, it was a catalyst for him flipping. The funny part added here was his kid being pinched in an ecstasy ring 😂
Doesn't it happen any of you when you're watching any sopranos videos, among videos RU-vid recommend you to watch after it, you've already watched them all
It does. But you catch something new here and there. May be a small detail like a certain look, a gesture or some information you missed watching the show. For instance did you know that Phil did twenty years in the can?
at 51 seconds notice how the creators changed the colors on this scene and the last few episodes to make them lack any color except grey..grey is meant to be gloomy..depressing..tony was done man, even if he wasn’t killed it was over for him.
Anyone think Tony got whacked by NY, not over the Phil stuff, but because they knew Tony was going to be arrested after Carlo flipped and they were afraid Tony might flip himself, which would not only destroy NJ, but could also destroy an entire NY family? Tony had never spent time in the can, not really. He also showed throughout the series that he didn't exactly follow all the mob rules as a boss, and of course everyone knew he talked to a therapist. Plus, NY, especially after Jon was gone, really didn't have any respect for Tony as a boss or as a legit family. What did Tony have left at the end of the series? There's like two high ranking members left and a capo just flipped, pretty reasonable to expect Tony would flip, especially after they just saw their former boss Jon admit to being int he mafia.
About a loose gf that bangs guys one after the other. One overlooked aspect of Chase's sopranos is the sound. Great things going on all the time and not just the music. Those bass and drums through the walls at the bing used for suspense. Paulie's godfather car horn. His ringtone. And of course the use of his beloved rock songs for so many plot twists. He and Gandolfini were at the top if their arc during the sopranos. Not spider.
@@rman52 About betrayal and someone replacing you in an instant. A coincidence Paulie has it as a ringtone? Only one dude I see running North Jersey after the fade to black.
@@eliwhaley4804 he was always very careful never to get involved in drugs and didn’t want any of his guys selling drugs. Remember he stopped Ritchie from selling coke in the garbage route and when Chris didn’t let Jackie’s friends sell ecstasy in his club.
@@dariog36th - but if he was getting profits from it, then he was part of the conspiracy to sell drugs, pure RICO shit. Just like Castellano and DeMeo’s stolen car ring. It had nothing to do with Castellano, but he was getting money from it as tribute, which made him a co-conspirator in the case. Tony was getting 30-to-life for that.
@@The_Big_Dawg Yeah he was unknowingly getting tribute from the drug ring which the feds don't care if you knew about it or not. As far as Tony knows that money was just from the sports betting ring that they had going on in college. However now he had to answer to drugs being sold under his watch and now he was going to have a captain testify against him. You're right. He was gonna be gone for a long time.
The desperation in this scene is real. It's very possible that NY played him and that they're still out for blood. At the same time, Carlo possibly flipping would send Tony to prison for likely the rest of his life. Lastly, with the exception of Paulie all of the closest people in Tony's inner circle over the years are dead. The world that Tony has fashioned for himself is now closing in on him like a vice.
I just rewatched the show and Carlo may be my least favorite character. He's the biggest cheerleader for killing Veto (before anything is even confirmed), gets his job (how convenient), still talks shit to Tony about him as he's being promoted (when its clear Tony's not happy he had to make this decision), blames Sil IMMEDIATELY after Tony finds out about Fat Dom, can bring in any money from a crew that flourished under the last two capos (Ralph and Vito), then flips at the first sign of trouble
This is where you can put the pieces together . Paulie was meeting with Butchie on “items” once he found out Carlo did flip . He struck the deal with Butch . Paulie face after the convo with Tony about taking construction says it . “We never know what the future holds my friend”
@@Oallright I think so . It’s almost no way they would’ve been able to kill Tony at Holsteins of all places if someone inside “the family” didn’t let it be known . Tony was always looking through his rear view mirrors . There’s no way someone could’ve been tailing him all day and he not notice . Even in season 4 when Paulie was giving information Johnny Sac said there might be a change at the top and Paulie said whoever’s in charge , even if it’s me .
I think if they made the movie; they would have pulled a Godfather II.They'd bring somebody in to intimate Carlo, and Tony would have walked. Also, Meadow would be on her dad's law firm.
Yeah with Carlo flipped and Tony dead. Paulie could step into the Boss Role and Patsy become a Capo of the construction site which is honestly way over due for him.
fbi definitely took carlo to the station and told him, jason's going away for 10 years or something and said he's your son, you ll be 70 when he's out, ......and made him promise testimony
Carlo was put in charge of Vito's construction business and the Ports, which included bribery, money laundering, illegal gambling and no show jobs; all of which are felonies and could be used in a R.I.C.O. indictment, Carlo probably also knew about the juror intimidation on Junior's mistrial, the explosives/arson on Phil's wire room, also Carlo could put Tony on another conspiracy to commit murder just like the Johnny Sack charge if he talked homicide such as Adriana, Tony B and Fat Dom. Tony would have went to Prison for the rest of his life
It didn't really occur to me before, but there is a line in this that could support the theory that Tony was killed and it was Paulie who gave the OK to New York. Him and Carlo were going to meet Butch and some others from New York, and it is apparent from this conversation that Tony wasn't aware of it. They were obviously therefore in contact with Butch and could well have been meeting them to discuss a hit on Tony.
“The ride” season 6 episode 9 , such a good episode there is another beautiful scene in that episode when Chris relapses at the carnival while “dolphins” by Fred Neil plays
I like how Carlo was the big old time guy with his rules who said “NO GAYS” but ends up being a rat. Vito was a bit of a snake to tony but he wasn’t a rat.
This was an incredible master coordination by both Paulie and Patsy who knew this was coming.....they tip off the cops about Carlos son so that he’s forced to testify against Tony. Patsy steps into the construction position which was previously held by Carlo. And Paulie steps into the Boss role for the DiMeo family. For those of you wondering why Patsy would want that job, Patsy was pissed af when Christopher got promoted and he’s despised him ever since. Also the highly disputed scene of the guy wearing the members only jacket which Eugene wore was also part of the construction crew with Vito, Ralph and Patsy. Little Paulie and Paulie always had close ties with that crew as seen in the scene with Finn. I believe that this was an inside hit coordinated by Paulie and Patsy. I came to this conclusion after watching The many saints of Newark, when Uncle Junior kills Christopher’s dad. Killing within the family is not new for the DiMeo family.
Yeah honestly Patsy should’ve been Capo. After Tony dead and Carlo flipped. The war with New York is over and the Jersey Family may either be absorbed or do business but get bad end of deals with New York now
You figure Carlo's son couldn't have that long of a rap sheet. What kind of real time would he do for an ecstasy rap? What mobster is gonna go through all that over his son doing a coupla years?
Exactly . I always thought the same. It reminds me of one of the last scenes in casino where a guy got killed because his son “got arrested for drugs, so naturally the bosses thought he’d rat em out to save his kid”
You really think the federal government wouldn’t leverage the maximum penalty on a mobsters kid? You don’t know if f he had a rap sheet or quantity of drugs he was selling. Go sell a few bundles of heroin on your first offense and see how little time you face lol
Tony was a great boss but this was one of his big blunders Vito brought in boatloads of cash. And later was killed Carlo replaced him and the end up becoming an informant
What if it's a plan all along by Paulie, Patsy and Carlo to stay low while Tony, Sil and Bobby took the hit and later, And rule over.. they would control NJ Family
What was the meaning the paranormal shit in the Sopranos? Wine glass moving, Pussys ghost in the mirror, Ouija boards, the carpenter dream, AJ hearing Livia in the hallway alone (Grandma?) Etc. What was Chase aiming for?
Paulie never knew that Beansie saved hes life . Beansie kicked knowledge into Tonys head in Florida. Even though Richie left him in a wheelchair. Beansie just kept it smooth. He knew Tony wanted to wack Paulie. Dont forget early in the show Paulie called Beansie "A poor basterd" after Richie ran him over
I don't understand how your dad can get you out of your case by flipping and not you? Isn't there some law against that. The kid looking at what 5 years and Carlo is going to live on the lamb the rest of his life and his wife's life- other son too? Stupid storyline
Gene Bone I think what it meant was he saw his son get caught up and what happened to him. He probably had to throw some people under the bus too. So Carlo flipped
@@duckasarus3663 again though stupid storyline. The kid wasnt even looking at a major bid and carlo is going to rat on the boss of the family when Carlo was looking at nothing and his son brought it all on himself anyway?
Never noticed before that Paulies ringtone is "Cecilia" by Simon and Garfunkel. I wonder what the connection is? Knowing the writers or this show , im sure there is one.
I'm always shocked going through these clips at just how much colour gets sucked out of the show towards the end. Would love to hear about how intentional all of that was, and whether it was "season by season" or "episode by episode". Maybe it's just me but the last few episodes of the Sopranos are drenched in this grey-blue tone.
Old man knows what he bought into as a young man is mostly bs, didnt make the money he promised, in the last 10 years of his life, looking at his son doing hard time, don't blame him.
