I was fortunate to see Tony Yazbeck play Gabey in the wonderful Broadway revival of On the Town in 2014. Singing, acting and dancing -- the Act II pas de deux with Megan Fairchild from NY City Ballet was spine-tingling -- of the highest order!
Well I can see a good reason to add some measures to the dance break and his name is Tony Yazbeck. Anyone think that this would be a great time to revive Pal Joey? The problem with reviving the show is finding a leading man to play it. I think we found him.
Its a pity that this song was cut in the movie and Tommy Rall didnt sing it and never did Bill Hayes in.the 1958 tv performance.we lost the performances of two.great tenors and remember that Rall was also a great dancer.
They wouldn't get away with lyrics about a man threatening to spank a woman nowadays but it's not set in the present day and what a lovely tune. Maybe they should change it to him singing "I promise to stop being a w*nker.." only joking!
