she truly was, not in the world maybe the best but in US for sure at one time...after this Nancy drama started and she moved back with her abusive husband she started to do terribly , that just shows how important support is from the people you love and from your team, many female figure skaters even today dont decide to do triple axel jump in their program because it is very hard jump, male figure skaters do it all the time and they do it many times as well in their program, my favorite male figure skater of all time Evgeny Plushenko did perfect triple axel jumps , men are better at figure skating than women for some reason , but Tonya was perfect for being a good figure skater...she was tiny , I am 153cm...she was 155cm which is very good if you want to be a figure skater, she had a lot of muscle, strong legs and she completed triple axel jump without hardly any support and with a lot of abuse ....she would have gotten soo far with right support system
+Martez Jones Shes not nuts, her ex husband is, he served jail time, master minded the whole scandal. later changed his name and was arrested 2 other times for domestic violence
+Chris Coyne Bull crap. Tonya Harding knew damn well what was going on, that is why they found her guilty and banned her for life. Tonya Harding knew what her boyfriend was doing which is why she was banned, she deserved it. She knew what was up.
Funny thing is, with the bad parenting and evil husband, she somehow managed to win the US Nationals in 91 and place 2nd in that years World Championships.
USFA should’ve taken full-notice after the 91 season and put a plan into place to nurture and help Tonya grow. They knew of her struggles, and how despite them she accomplished so many feats. The skating community should’ve backed Tonya up after witnessing her raw talent. But alas, we all know how the story unfolded.
Just Trusova, and no one, and I do mean no one, has a triple lutz that looks like that. Tonya did a quad loop for a Texaco commercial, but unfortunately she never tried it in competition.
She didnt deserve to,be banned for LIFE. maybe a three year ban ir something. Nicole Bobek broke into,a competiters home, broke skates, and stole money. Funny how she was given a pass, wasnt in any big trouble. probably because her home life was better or something ..wasnt fair to Tonya.
+Chris Coyne Exactly, and with all the real trash out there today who get away with things, Tonya's banning is uncalled for. But it only proves that from the start when she started to rise in the skating ranks, she had no chance from the start. The USFSA - her own federation - didn't like her because she was white (anglo saxon) but poor with a broken home. Meanwhile Midori Ito, who is her equivalent internationally (but even better) was supported completely early on by her own Japanese federation because they saw right away that they had a very unique and revolutionary gem who was Midori, in their own country at that moment. It's not difficult to see when the situation arises.
+Chris Coyne But anyways, Tonya managed to achieve a lot in her career. And consider that she achieved what she did while having her poor and broken background, and having little financial resources and less ice time - this simply makes her one of the greatest figure skaters ever in the history of the sport.
+chocolatesupport. Its Amazing that she was even able to achieve anything! In her skating career. Most people with backgrounds like hers dont ever make it. Tonya deserved more though, i think she should have done more acting or something after all of '94 happend. She could have been good, on a show like 'Roseanne' or something. But she was blacklisted from everything basically, so unfortunate..
chocolatesupport Very true. And i do believe she revolutionized the sport, along with her peers in the '90s. But Tonya was the first American women to skate the way she did. Hasn't been another since, and wont ever be. Because yes there were lots of great figure skaters before the 90's, but the sport was unpopular. It wasnt Just the '94 scandal that brought attention to the sport, also 1991 all three american world champions. Tonya was of course, given second. She really deserved best in the world, that year especially. Again, they didnt back her up, like they did the other women.
Chris Coyne That is why people cannot laugh about the statement that Tonya was the best in 1991 (she said it herself), because overall, she really was. She won the American nationals, and was silver at World's. However, she beat Yamaguchi twice in that same year, and not by just a hair. Plus, the international judges (not American) were giving her the marks and showed appreciation for her artistry and style, besides her natural athleticism and strong technique.
I love how dramatic and extended her Ina Bauer move was here. Such a beautiful and talented skill that takes a lot of muscle and control of parallel edges and I wish we saw that move in more programs today. Harding is hands down my 2nd favorite American skater after Michelle Kwan. I really miss the 90s and early 2000s of figure skating. Her 1991 LP though, ugh such a marvel to watch!
@@SOLE2SOUL if you watch Tonya in Albertville Olympics Exhibition 1992 (black and gold outfit) she does an Ina Bauer half way around the rink. So beautiful and graceful.
7 years after my initial comment this still remains one of my favorite national championship victories on the womens side. behind the clouds of controversy Tonya was able to pull it together for 4:30 ... pull some artistry out and relate to the crowd, and her jumps and spins were phenomenal. She didn't stop, she didn't fake a costume malfunction. she just went out and claimed ownership over the ice and blew evetryone else away.
@@USA-qm2bk More than 26 years after Harding's historic jump, you might be surprised to know that she is still one of just eight women in the world to have landed the jump in international competition. It remains one of the most difficult skills in figure skating due to the extra half-rotation in the air because of its forward take off. So who makes up list of skaters to achieve this acclaimed feat? Google it!
This really was a beautiful performance, she deserved to win. And by the way, she is so muscular here because she gained a lot of weight between '92 and '93. she got back in shape here, but looks like she worked out and it turned into muscle. also she is 23 here and not 19.
I think she was troubled, and got into some things she likely regrets, but nobody can deny her talent. I wanted to be her more than anyone in skating at that time. Such athleticism!
It would appear now that she knew that they were up to something but didn't know exactly what and couldn't have done anything about it. And that's why I think she was able to skate as well as she did here. If she had known, I think her unconscious would have caused her to make errors. Then she was basically subjected to guilt by association.
I remember at this competition they cut to Michelle’s face watching Tonya and when she jumped Michelle mouthed Wow!. I have always felt that spoke volumes about Michelle’s character.
I got to see her at an exhibition in 1992 after the Olympics. The height she gets and the amount of ice her jumps covered was extraordinary. She just hangs in the air. I am Jewish but when I saw her perform I said a Hail Mary and prayed to Allah at the same time. Her spins are amazing fast, centered,
Tonya was very much an athletic skater, she landed 5 thriples in order to win the 94 title. had Tonya and Nancy faced each other, it would have been interesting to see who would have placed 1st and who placed 2nd. I would have been pulling for Tonya.
She always had it, and she knew it. When you have that kind of confidence and self-assurance in your talents and abilities, the thought of sabotaging the chances of a fellow competitor to advance your own position doesn't cross your mind, because you have a strong belief within yourself that you have what it takes to pull it off. The ex-husband was a fool for intervening. Tonya would've stood up fine against her competition, and could've easily taken out the gold fair and square - no black batons needed. Her speed and power, especially in the air, was elite, and far superior to that of many other figure skaters of her time.
I think maybe Diane Rawlinson was a bit of a pushover coach, i think Tonya skated better programs with Dodie Teachman as a coach, but she had more of a personal connection with Diane
955pokerface I think you're completely right. Diane was probably a better technical coach, but Dodie seemed to bring out Tonya's best skating. Of course, maybe that was just coincidence and her personal life had more to do with the timing of her performances. Who knows. She could have been the US's best skater of all time had she been supported and trained properly. Instead, she was looked at as an outsider from the wrong side of the tracks. How many other kids do you think get pushed aside because of that? Argh. Okay, rant over! ha ha!
955pokerface Rawlinson has always seemed to patronize Tonya for her own personal gain IMO. one of her childhood friends once said that "Diane didn't have the emotional capacity to give Tonya what she really needed." I have always felt that came through loud and clear. Who knows what Tonya could've accomplished with any kind of legitimate support system.
I think Diane seems more upbeat than she is portrayed on I,tonya not so much has a fairy. Tonya took both coaches on an incredible journey that neither of them would have gone on without her. Its a shame they could not of worked with her together, Diane seemed such a nice lady and I think the friend who said that statment also said Diane treated Tonya like her daughter but that Diane didn't have the emotional capacity to cope with Tonya's teenage tomboy behaviour and bad Attitude but who would have been able to handle Tonya at that time, this is a girl who was used to being whacked by her mother for not skating well and then mainly brought her self up with very little guidance or rules! Diane saying 'please do this' or 'please don't do that' probably went straight over Tonyas head. I think any coach would've their hands full and by the sounds of it Tonya was not nice to Dody either, Maybe if Dody and Diane would have worked together they would have been stronger and gave Tonya the support she needed, I do like Diane though she seemed lovely.
@@searanch32 Diane babied Tonya which she liked. Dody was supportive and nurturing as well, but she was tougher and more discipline oriented and didn't take any of Tonya's crap. Which made her better, but which Tonya was too rebelious to put up with long term.
Nancy Kerrigan was simply no match for Tonya Harding as a skater. Therefore, I have a hard time believing that Tonya Harding had anything to do planning the attack and instead think it was all her abusive and very dumb ex husband.
I definitely appreciate Dick Button and Peggy Fleming's commentary over Scott Hamilton's of Tonya. They seem much more neutral and objective, and complimentary of Tonya's abilities. They say she has great maturity in her skating, but then Scott just talks down on Tonya's style.
I agree. It was well known in skating circles that Scott Hamilton hated Tonya, but you'd think he could have put his personal issues aside long enough to do what he was being paid to do, namely provide professional unbiased commentary on the merits of the skating. Instead, just about every Tonya performance commentated by him was a hate-fest. Very unprofessional and very hypocritical as well
I love Dick Button’s commentary on her 1991 Nationals free skate when she lands her historic first triple axel in competition. I gathered Scott Hamilton was frustrated with her at the 1994 Olympics, but I’ve also seen times where he spoke well of her performances. During her free skate at the 1991 Skate America, he was super enthusiastic about her jumps and said something like, “No one’s going to beat this program.” Also, at the 1992 Olympics he says he thinks she should have placed higher than Midori Ito after the original program. I’ve even seen comments on RU-vid about his bias in favor of her there. But I think things changed as time went by.
@@chooseyourpoison5105 Yes a good point, keep your personal info out of a pro job that you are being paid for!Why did he hate her anyway? I mean he won the olympics in 1984 I mean very different stuff compared to today!
Dick Button is hardly neutral on Tonya, but he was very complimentary here (as he should be!) Scott does not have any kind of filter, at least Dick had the presence of mind to use his in most of his commentary.
@@chooseyourpoison5105 sports commentary is not journalism. It's not meant to be unbiased. That's why, in part, most competitive countries have their own commentators. Dick Button was kind at that point in his career. A few years later he was calling skaters"refrigerator breaks."
Aside from being a great skater Dick Button is the greatest commentator ever. When he talks listen because you will learn. When he was paired with Peggy Flemming you could not do better. I love Peggy's commentary as much as Dick's.
I think if the knee business wouldn't have happened, Tonya would've won at least the silver here but probably the gold with this performance, a gold for sure with the triple axel even if Kerrigan skated her LP perfectly. Nancy Kerrigan was never a consistent skater and I think getting hit in the knee and having her focus be on rehab actually helped her to do as well as she did at the Olympics--that was only one of two clean LPs I had ever see her do. But had Tonya gone to the Olympics and skated like this, she would've come away with at least the bronze. With the triple axel and given the performances Nancy and Oksana did that night, she would've definitely had a silver, maybe even the gold--though I think that would've been a stretch (assuming she skated a clean SP) b/c Nancy and Oksana would've scored better artistically. I will go to my grave believing that Tonya was in on the plan 100% no matter what she says and it was stupid and for nothing. Her jumps were huge and she was talented.
This line you said is 1000% accurate!!: "Kerrigan was never a consistent skater and I think getting hit in the knee and having her focus be on rehab actually helped her to do as well as she did at the Olympics."
I haven't watched this since the year it happened...1994? Where did the time go? This was when skating was something everyone had to watch. I remember all the craziness leading up to the Olympics, and all the parodies that were being done on TV. At Halloween of that year, I remember seeing a lot of Tonya costumes at parties. Good times!
She admitted it. Plus she never apologized for it, merely attempted to justify it. 2 generations of Taylor Swift mean girls dominating pop culture has rebranded Tonya into an antihero, but make no mistake she put that hit out on Nancy, and she milked the drama that followed, HARD.
I really appreciate that these commentators are not being so rude and inconsiderate as some others. For example, Scott Hamilton would never hold back and comment on her weight, life, etc. It's nice that they are seeing her as she is - a brilliant athlete.
I agree, she was old enough to know better! What a coward.......and still walking around saying she knew nothing of the 'plan'. BS......if she was smart she would own up to it, .......that would also guarantee her interviews and maybe even endorsements, but her lack of class, integrity, and her huge ego won't allow it.
You are a hater bel lab, you respond in a very negative way to all the positive commentaries here. That is just dads Look at your life first before judging others.
RachelDavisMatthews who cares. I don't think she has an ego. I think she legitimately doesn't comprehend what happened. She grew up in a world where she was beaten by her mother and husband and was basically forced to marry to have a roof over her head. Aside from "comped" coaching (where they got publicity), she got very little help financially. She knew about a plot where the girl got bruised in the knee. She was 23, she didn't hold the baton, and ultimately there was almost no real physical harm. She's not "smart enough," she had to quit school at 16. She just lives her backwoods life. I hope one day people realize that her triple axel is far more impressive than her bungled supposed conspiracy to bring Nancy down. Her life is proof that no matter what some people can achieve, their "status" in life will always hold them back.
It's crazy, the comments on here where people are saying she's "fat". Having to confirm to a stick-insect ideal must be terrifying. In most cultures, this is not a fat woman. Also - Tonya in this clip (not her best performance) was still more talented than ANY of the commenters today. It's a shame she didn't know better and wasn't able to rise above her circumstances and make better choices. I don't think her entire life should have been destroyed by her stupid and wreckless involvement.
Well there's still time........to come clean and admit she knew the plan. She can't be prosecuted if she does. Thee's still a big chip on her shoulder unfortunately.
People are saying she's fat? No wonder my ex (Caucasian) boyfriend called me rotund at 129 lbs. : ( she's not fat. She's got muscular legs cause she jumps around all damn day. I'd wager she has less body fat here than most people. I know I'd be right. Also some people like thicker legs and bottoms. I don't wish to be mean to women with less "shape" but I never thought super skinny legs were sexy. They look like kids legs. To each his own but she's not fat for heavens sake.
LGL Being thin doesn't mean you don't have a "shape". She isn't fat, she is definitely muscular and has a wider body frame. She could definitely have both fat and muscle, she looks great, fit and strong to me. And your ex boyfriend calling you fat at 129 lbs depends on how was your body fat composition and how was fat settling in your body.
Anyone else think that Tonya was really coming into her prime during 1994? It’s so sad what happened to her. I feel like she was finally coming into her own as far as adulthood and had built the courage to stand up to Jeff and remove him completely from her life. You can also see how muscular she is and how defined her triples were becoming. And just as she is truly getting her life together and getting rid of the wrong people, she gets dragged into a horrible event with horrible people that I believe she had no knowledge of. It’s disappointing, because even though her triple axels took her to the top initially, I feel like we’d have seen a fully mature, well-rounded skating champion if she’d been allowed to continue competing throughout the rest of the 90’s. It’s evident that she no longer relied just on her triple axel anymore but that she was maturing in all jumps and artistry. If you ask me...Tonya Harding got her best years of figure skating taken away from her because the best was yet to come. Picture a calm, happy Tonya with only good people around her at the 1998 olympics. Or even the 1994 Olympics if all this tragedy hadn’t stripped her confidence from her. Hard work wasted in reaching full physical and mental maturity. Anyone agree?
She was 24, WAY too old to compete with the next gen. Plus she had already been outclassed by Thomas, Yamaguchi and Baiul by this point. She got outclassed yet again at the games, this time to Surya Bonaly.
No. 1991 was clearly the zenith of her career with the national title, world silver medal and win at Skate America. After that 1992 was bad, 1993 was even worse, then she had this competent performance which looks even more suspicious in hindsight.
@@timothyhh I havent figured out why she wasnt doing two lutzs at this point. She was landing them cleaning again, and here and the Olympics it was just as huge as she was doing 3 years earlier. She had a decent performance at 93 skate America before this so she was capable.
Reelz TV ran a special on her that says there was not only handwritten note, which matched hers, with the name and phone where Kerrigan practiced, but also phone records at the exact time of the attack (when she said she was sleeping) and interviews with personnel at the rink that put together a very strong if circumstancial case. Kerrigan said the FBI told her she was involved. The Portland DA opted to take a plea deal rather than go through an expensive trial. Scott Hamilton said recently that she bit every hand that fed her and that they both had some of the same financial sponsors. She had at least one endorsement as national champion. I remember seeing the ad. She also got financial help from George Steinbrenner who she thanked publicly. She brought herself down. Afterward she was free to do anything else... go back to school, etc. If fully prosecuted, she could have gone to jail.
She would actually probably have difficulty slam dunking a basketball as she was only a tiny five feet tall. But I agree that she was a tremendously powerful athlete and one who didn't deserve the hate she got.
My heart breaks every time i think what could have been for her. So sad. It’s a lot to forgive but it’s more for her to ask for it. I’m sure she’s gone over it in her head and heart. She knew who she was and where she was headed but her support team let her down.
What should Tonya ask to be forgiven for? She didn't hit Kerrigan, her husband's idiot friend did. The only thing she needs to ask forgiveness for is for stupidly trying to cover for her husband when she found out what he'd done, which she acknowledges was a dumb move, and has apologised for. But considering her husband's record of violence, I can honestly understand why she did. The people who really ought to be asking for forgiveness is the skating world. They all KNEW her husband was beating seven bells out of her, and nobody did a damned thing. Not. One. Person. How do they sleep at night, I wonder?
Presidential pardon for the past, Tonya should NOT have been stripped of her title, as it was before the U.S. Figure ASSociations shake down on her. Tonya is #1 .
I missed her more fun and upbeat performances. If only she didn’t have to conform to what is expected from a figure skater representing the country. She wasn’t only known for doing the triple axel, she was know for her technical skill and her creative choreography and music.
So heartbreaking to see someone with so much talent be banned from doing what she was born to do. Its like seeing a racing horse who is forced to be put down without a broken leg.
What saddens me is that skating was literally the only thing she knew how to do. She'd dropped out of high school to focus on skating, and she'd never had a full time job due to training, so she had no other skills. She wasn't even allowed to teach or coach, or even to sharpen skates at a rink. And stripping her of the medals she'd won BEFORE the attack was just plain spiteful, she won those fair and square. What they did to Tonya had nothing to do with justice, it was petty revenge.
@@yellowdayz1800 Considering how famous the event is, you would think you would actually know what happened. What Tonya knew or didn't know will never be proven, but she is not the one who attacked Nancy.
@@Wafflinson bull... The FBI found proof in the garbage.. Something like that. In cases like this that went haywire.. The system can often get like overloaded and mistakes made and all kinds of things to deal with.. But in the end. She got banned for life. But the FBI did find proof Tanya knew previous to the attack
@@Wafflinson the fbi proved a handwritten letter was tonyas by a handwriting expert.. And in it gave directions on how to get to Nancy for the attacker.. They didn't know the cops look through the garbage.. And the fbi found it in the dump. That is what I was told.. They had just dump trash in a dumpster.. The FBI was watching.. It is on Google. The case was so popular... I think the issue just hot lost sight of. It can happen. Not in our day and age.
geoboe84 she was stripped of the title after she admitted she knew had some knowledge of the attack on Nancy Kerrigan. After the Olympics, Tonya was banned from the sport for life.
geoboe84 I think because the winner has her title stripped, and the USFS decided to leave the title vacant. The rest of the standings remained where they were. Michelle won 9 titles outright in the years following!
If she had skated like this at the Olympics - she may have actually won the bronze medal. (I think the media frenzy affected her badly - so she wasn't skating as well at the Olympics as she did here at the Nationals).
She might have won if she could have skated clean, which she almost did here. She didn't need a triple axel. After all of the notoriety, she ended up skating poorly and was eventually banned. A sad story all around.
Forgetting everything about her personal life and other skaters’ personal life’s, Tonya is one of the strongest skaters compared to the others. Disappointing that she had to and still has to live in a society where opinions made of you are based on you personal life
The *only* reason I would ever think that Tonya had little to do with Nancy Kerrigan's attack was that she was really awful at separating personal from professional. She's a bit of a trailer park trash queen and wore her heart on her sleeve. In 1993 when her marriage was doing poorly, she skated miserably. At the Olympics, when the press hounded her daily and accusations began, she skated miserably. Here, though, she skated better than she had in a very, very long time. I would have thought that if she had any role in what happened, it would have shone through in her performance. PS. I don't think ANYONE has ever a done a Lutz quite like hers. It's beautiful, it's massive and the landing is beyond confident. Screw the Axel. It would have been NICE if it were consistent, but her whole body of technicality was terrific. It's too bad she grew up the way she had. It's too bad she made questionable choices as an adult. She definitely would have been a legend.
I can't believe Tonya has become an antihero in current year. She literally PUT OUT A HIT ON AN OPPONENT. She milked the drama as far as she could after that. The USOC should be ashamed of themselves for letting her go to Norway anyway.
I believe Tonya's lawyers were going to sue US Figuring skating if they prevented her from competing in the Olympics since it was pre-trial. So there's that.
@@Person-mh6xq that doesn't explain why Jeff Gilooly was allowed to go with her after being arrested, arraigned, and released on bail. (And losing his passport as a condition of his bail.)
Also bullshit. She isn’t the one who put out any “hit” No one liked that stuck up Nancy then or now (except maybe you🙄) and everyone was pulling for her. It was “Team Tonya” right from the start. When Nancy lost to Oksana, the entire world cheered because she got stuffed. The ungrateful thing standing up at the podium with her sour grapes sucking lemon face was priceless to watch. If anyone should be ashamed of themselves it’s you for ripping off a bad line from a B- movie for your name. Hilarious!!
You can really see how much weight she gained between 1991 & 1994. It's too bad she didn't peak in 94 instead of 91. She was a good jumper, but she really lacked the polish and the grace that Oksana had.
Oksana was a beautiful artistic skater but her jumping was iffy. She really didn't deserve to win over Kerrigan, who had a triple-triple. Oksana, as I recall, didn't even have one combo.
Tonya Harding had the triple Axel in her arsenal, but she was never consistent enough to win more championships. Kristi Yamaguchi’s jumps were smaller and less spectacular, but she was a more consistent skater than Tonya. That’s why Kristi was the National, World and Olympic champion.
Tonya's triple lutz was gorgeous. Always was. Deep outside edge. Hope she checks out these comments once in awhile. I'd easily pay $100 to watch her skate or even more to be coached by her.
Her arms were so graceful. She also had grace and some musicality plus the power and athleticism. She was also very cute. She was an adventurous skater fun to watch. Just didn't have the proper foundation and support. There was trauma and abuse in her early childhood. She rose above so much and yet what happened? We will never know for sure. Husband was a creep. He brought out the worst in her. Nancy was good too, yet not as exciting to watch for me. Tonya was a real risk taker.
As I watch this, I just feel like she really limited herself. What a waste of raw talent. Maybe not as refined as some of her competitors with grace but she was TALENTED... and threw it all away.
Tonya was very talented but saying she is the greatest skater ever is ridiculous. There is a reason why Mao asada, michelle Kwan are considered the greats, and why Kim Yuna is still known as "the Queen" even after retirement
@bluescribblefy It's not for the USFSA to decide how many skaters they can send to an Olympic Games or a Worlds. Those spots had to be earned from the placements of each nation's skaters from the World Championship the year before, or an early season designated international event for the remaining spots available to countries who weren't able to earn a berth from the Worlds in the previous season. Countries were limited to a max of 3 berths per discipline.
What a fabulous skater she was. A life tine ban was very harsh, she didn't deserve that. I don't believe age had anything to do with what happened to Nancy K - Tonya could skate rings around her she didn't need to do that attack. They judged her on her background-very sad indeed.
If she had the right support system, resources and everything in between she would have been unbeatable but no, the pretty, rich, basic girls always were "the best" and that is the ugly truth.
I don’t think Nancy came from a rich family. I also don’t think many of the ladies who would win at the international level over the next decade were any prettier than Tonya was (who certainly wasn’t unattractive). Yes, a big deal was made about the way Nancy looked, particularly in the Vera Wang dresses and but ultimately Nancy didn’t win gold at any Olympics or World Championships. And I think she just won one U.S. Championship. There are probably tons of rich, pretty, and even very talented ladies out there who we never heard of because they never had made it to the national stage.
How old was Tonya in this? Woah, figure ice-skating must be really hard. It's really sad, that they can't compete this season. But it's Tonya's fault, if she didn't arrange a man, who hit Nancy, that wouldn't happen. Anyways, I love to watch older competition w/ Nancy and Tonya.
Tonya was a great athlete, but she was her own worst enemy. I understand that she had a bad family life that was beyond her control, but there were so many things she should have & could have done differently. A different lifestyle wouldn’t guarantee gold medals, but she wouldn’t have faced some of the problems.
if she was her own worst enemy, that was because of the Trauma she suffered. Yes, if you are grown-up, you are responsible for your own decisions, but it is much more difficult to act sensible and rational when you have been abused like she was. It wasn't just a "bad Family life", it was a Horror show. She must have grown up NEVER Feeling safe. I Don't mean that as an excuse for everything bad that happened in Tonya's life, but as an Explanation. I was abused myself and I know how this can affect you :(
That horoscope is hilarious. "The outside resources . . . you need are available. Your leadership skills put you ahead of the pack." I wonder which pack of goons she was leading. ;)
Don’t doubt her technical ability in the slightest, her jumps & spins & edge work are fantastic, other than the two foot on the 3T but I just don’t feel that she shows any interpretation to the music
Lol I bet Kerrigan was pissed because she knew that all she needed to do to earn higher marks was to make an appearance on the ice. Now that she was out of the way, Tonya was actually able to show people that she was better than Nancy despite her not being an ice princess.
@3Axel1996 Nancy's 5th Place finish at the 93 Worlds earned the US 2 berths for the 94 Olympics and Worlds (although hopes were for her to finish in the Top 3 in order to earn 3 berths). These are the rules of the ISU, not the USFSA. You can also say if it weren't for Nancy's participation at the 93 Worlds, she would have had to compete at an Olympic qualifying event in the Fall of 93 in order to earn 1 berth at the Olympics for the US. Either way, Nancy earned her spot on the Olympic team.
In what way? Nancy was more consistant than Tonya. Plus Nancy didn't make a fool of herself by attempting a jump she obviously was not able to do time and time again. And I believe that Nancy got the silver at the olympics and Tonya was well below her. And of course this has nothing to do with her actual skating but in my opinion Nancy's ability not to have a total breakdown before competition or on the ice makes her a better person and skater.
