Gab is 1000% correct. Your loyalty is to the integrity of the game.. your loyalty is not to your protocols & fellow refs. Refs are glorified babysitters who truly think the game is about them. So WHY have another layer of those types of people in the process? PGMOL is corrupt.
@iu2
@iu2 8 месяцев назад
Agreed. It took a non-referee to see the mistake and try to correct it. It took an actual referee to deny that attempt to make things right. Darren England is a corrupt official...and a moron...and so is his assistant VAR. That assistant should have jumped in to stop the game because the VAR didn't want to. They are both culpable and corrupt.

Not all referees, but yes the ones do. As a referee, the best referees are the ones that treat it like a job and not like a performance. I reffed with both types. The ones that show up, in ow the sport, know the rules, do their job, get paid go home and get back to their life are the best referees with no arguments with parents and coaches. The ones that show up and try to impress everyone and talk about themselves and how much they know always forget that it’s about the actual participants and not the referees always make the biggest mistake because they are not their to referee they are there to convince themselves they are the most important person in the world.

🛑It was deliberate act of cheating🤏 Just few minutes later, the same VAR dude who said he can’t do anything, showed still image of Jones foot away from the ball & called the referee to manipulate him to switch Jones yellow to straight red🤏
@iu2
@iu2 8 месяцев назад
@@duran9664 I can't disagree because the initial image on the screen that the ref saw was Jones' boot on Bissouma's ankle. That's not how it should be done. The ref should see the replay in normal speed first. By showing that still image, you're influencing the ref's decision. Total corruption and manipulation by Darren England.

They have. This audio confirms my suspicions about what goes on in the booth. What I have noticed is that we get some real shockers when VAR officials have more than one thing to look at. Example: Not checking if it is a bookable offense for Pickford to wipe out Virgil Van Dijk. They were checking an offside and "forgot". Example: Ignored Rodri handball at Everton that cost Liverpool the title. They were checking an offside and "forgot" about the handball.

I think we just found out why they do in fact make a lot of mistakes. A bunch of headless, brainless chickens. Props to the video operator who sounded like the youngest and most junior of the lot who was the only one trying to stop the game. Astonishingly the VAR didn't seem to be watching the restart as it took 10 of 15 seconds after the restart before he realised - after being told - that the ball was in play. This is someone who is supposed to be REFEREEING the game.

Compare the VAR with the TMO during the Rugby World Cup. They stop the running clock, they take the time and have a running dialogue talking through the situation and communicate clearly. When a decision is reached, the TMO and referee clearly enunciate the course of action and they keep going. If rugby can make it work, the PGMOL should be able to make it work.

Wow, I had no idea about the WC final. Gab is spot on, the allegiance of the referee should lie with upholding the integrity of the game, not some arbitrary protocol. If the refs had common sense & stopped the game to give the goal, they would've earned praise AND new rules could've still been implemented based on the event - so breaking protocol would not have necessarily opened a Pandora's box.

Yes the Zidane headbutt was famously initially not seen by on pitch officials & not even initially transmitted on airwaves as it was an off the ball offence - the main cameras were following the ball & Zidane was headbutting further up the pitch. The 4th official clocked it & with additional camera views realized what happened. There was also the issue before VAR became an official thing of referees referring to the large in stadium screens replays to inform/review challenges to make their decisions. This was a time before there was any hard agreement about using cameras to in form in game decisions by refs .... Problem was referees weren't in control of what images they had access to to make their ruling which got some people upset

Just an observation. The original PGMOL story is BS. Right after the goal was scored, the ref said: "Coming back to the offside mate". The VAR guy followed up with "checking the offside"! Event the top banner on their monitor was saying "Checking disallowed goal". They KNEW that the call was offside. And they followed up with "check complete". Meaning they've validated the offside call after determining that the goal was valid.

What Jamie said about the ref going to the monitor and being told what they are to do by VAR instead of actually letting the ref look at the actual issue proves this was done on purpose. They just thought that protocol would get them saved. He made sure to say I can’t do anything. That means the VAR room told the ref to send Jones off, and purposely disallowed the goal by miscommunication. That is why he ignored what Oli was saying. He waited for the ball to kick off then he suddenly heard what Oli is saying. This was done on purpose all day.

NRL bunker in Australia is a shining example of where the audio from the team in the bunker is played live to the TV audience whilst at the ground the visual is on the big screen. Teh ref tells them what he wants them to look at. They go through what they are looking at, explain what they are seeing and then "We have a Decision"....hit the button........."Try" or "No Try". Clear as day. Also with on-field knock-ons, all explained as the visual plays for everyone to see. They even point out other infractions that they see which are not necessarily what the ref saw and asked them to look at. e.g. a knock on check but one which was caused by a strip or high tackle. Football NEEDS this level of transparancy of decision making. Shocking. Game should be replayed. It is tainted.

Although var knew diaz was onside they let the offside call stand and allowed for play to continue so they can claim they cannot reverse it by using their rules as a cover . Rules in this case certainly are not justice and not sticking to the rules can bring justice. Case in point , as an example, a mucher bigger game than Saturday's game of Liverpool vs. Tottenham The final of the 2006 world cup ,Italy vs France . I watched the game live and whoever else has think back. When Zidane headbutted Materrazi the ref did not see it and because he didnt he didnt stop play . The linesmen also didn't see it and therefore did not raise the flag. After play was stopped because of the man on the ground the refferee and the linesmen went to confer. Now remember, var was not around at the time . Offocials could only by rule make calls only by what they can see. The entire time the ref and linesmen are conferring a large screen in the stadium was showing the headbut over and over again. The ref only gave Zidane a red because he saw the replay . Of course they would not admit that because it wasnt according to the then rules ,but it was the correct call. And I was rooting for France but the red card was the right call

First of all, the VAR officials MUST start communicating with the on-field ref in actual full sentences! Just saying "check completed" and expecting that the ref will just know exactly what that means is STUPID and will always lead to more errors like this. If they had said instead "check completed. Player was ON-SIDE", literally all of this would have been avoided. Whoever invented this rule that the VAR officials can only say "check completed" to the ref and nothing else is extremely shortsighted. In this type of context, the sentence "check completed" is, quite ironically, an INCOMPLETE sentence! The ref needs the rest of the information!

When you have verbal communications as your primary conveyance of information, you have to put structured language in place so that what the inputs, findings and actions to take are clear to all people taking part in the conversation (think military engagement or law officials dispatch). That all sounded very haphazard.

The thing I can't get my head around is that since the introduction of VAR the assistant refs have not called offside unless it was clearly off. How in this instance was this called offside in real time? With all the corruption we have seen in the world game over the years, this sort of thing does nothing but bring the official's credibility into question.

It's not that they don't call offside if it's close, it's that they hold the call until the play is done. Once the part is done, they either put their flag up or not depending if they thought that earlier decision was offside or not

“Check Complete” is absolutely inconclusive and needs to be prohibited in their protocol. Much clearer language like “Decision: No Offside” or “Decision: Offside Confirmed” must be used. VAR officials should have no problem to stop the game if there is a misunderstanding. Their loyalty should be to the integrity of the game and not to any VAR protocol.

Liverpool supporter. Craig is correct about the rush to get the VAR process done. That's very clear from the audio. Fans are going to also have to accept delays as inevitable to get decisions right. What happened was still unacceptable, but it did strike me that part of the mess was possibly due to the complaints from fans about VAR ruining the flow of games. VAR Darren England surely had access in real time to the live match and commentary that we all had? If he was watching the game and listening to the referee and assistants, he would have known that the request was to check the goal that had just been disallowed for offside. Everyone else watching on TV and in the ground knew that this was the reason that the goalscorer Diaz had abruptly cut short his initial goal celebration. Darren England's final word to referee Simon Hooper, as he blows his whistle, raises his right hand in the air to signal for the offside kick to be taken, and then waves that hand vigorously two or three times in a beckoning gesture to tell them to get on with the restart, is "Off". England's "Off" is audible in the video, is included in the written transcript, but has been oddly omitted from the video subtitles by PGMOL, I can only imagine in order not to draw attention to it. And so despite everything, we are expected to believe that it took Darren England a full 15 seconds after he could see that the referee had blown for offside, the offside kick had been taken and that normal playing had resumed, not from the kick-off spot in the centre of the pitch to signal that a goal had been given, but from the offside position to signal that an offside had been given, before he realised his mistake? After immediate questioning by both his Assistant VAR Dan Cook and the Replay Operator, as well as the VAR Hub Ops. Oli, who could all see straightaway that something had gone wrong. 15 seconds after all that?? That is just not credible. Along with anything else, PGMOL's video should be re-released with the caption "VAR: Off" as Mr England's final word to the referee before the restart was actioned. The whole focus by TV post-mortems and others so far on the incident has been on the continued confusion and failure of any advice to or action by the referee to take things back after the restart, whereas VAR Darren England would surely have known all day long that the restart was the point of no return. So will the upshot of all this be that the VAR who steered this atrocious display will be back at post after the usual 1 or 2 weeks holiday and an insincere "sorry, will do better next time" from his bosses? Incredible, just incredible. If EPL are unable to get their act together, then maybe it is time for a European Super League under different management with greater transparency for the sanity of the fans.

It took a while for cricket to get their review system correct but it is now nearly flawless . With Football and VAR lets hope this is the start of change and they see how other sports do their reviews and come up with a clear and concise system that actually works. The communication was atrocious and it can easily be fixed. They should make the decision and then communicate to the ref in a manner such as this. Check complete.. Player Onside.. Goal Awarded... 4 extra words were needed so why on earth does the protocol not allow clear communications. It obviously needs changing.

As a Liverpool fan, I think the only feasible outcome for the club is get on with the season for now and accept the mistake (as hard as it will be) and then see how the season finishes. If liverpool do miss out on a major league position by a point, then liverpool can look to claim damages for the lost income against the PGMOL at this point. Yes, it is hard to say for definite that the result would have definitely changed as a result of the officials actually being competent, but maybe an agreed amount of damages can be agreed by a court judge. Of course the officials are human and they make mistakes. I also understand that in their position it cant be easy to break the rules that their employers make them follow, but i would be eating myself up inside if i was Darren England and i didnt say anything to Simon Hooper at the time... The game is too big and too much money is at stake to just allow referees to not have any accountability, especially when the mistake is a factual one where there are no arguments over subjective opinions to be had.

From the footage release by the Telegraph ... The man who said to delay the game must stay. The ones who said that he couldn't do anything must resign for this season. And that 4th official ref, Oliver, seems to harm Liverpool like many times before. This one could be nothing - BUT also could cost Liverpool dearly! I remember one handball by Rodri when City led 1-0 at Goodison on February 2022. Lampard was so furious about the ref's decision. It should be ended with a draw. Then the FA or the board apologized, too. Because of that, the Reds had to become runner-up with a single point (season 2021-22).

The communication was terrible. On field ref should always verbally convey the on field call to VAR. VAR should always confirm what he heard... Ref: "Call on field is offside, no goal, VAR review" VAR "Confirmed, call on field is offside, no goal, reviewing. Delay restart" Ref: "Confirmed, delaying restart" VAR: "Overturn call on field, player is onside, goal is awarded" Ref: "Confirmed, onside, goal is good to be given" VAR: "Confirmed" Then blow the whistle and signal on the field appropriately. Both sides iterate field call and VAR reviewed call and confirm. Both are equally responsible for having a clear 2 way conversation. VAR technology is not the issue, they never went to kindergarten where you learn to communicate with your peers.

all points are valid, but this particular situation could have been avoided with a simple protocol saying, that every VAR-decision on basics like offside/goal/goal line has to be communicated in its ENTIRETY to the ref, meaning not only tell him "check complete" but "check complete - not offside - goal given" (or vice versa) And it HAS to be in the protocole to avoid any form of specualtion regarding match rigging. That said, there should also be a minimum time for the offside checking process (lets say 1:00), which then everbody knows (including the audience) and with no need to do it quicker, which would allow an orderly step-by-step process to get the right picture+angle, then add the line, get the verdict by everybody at VAR, come to an consensus, communicate it as mentioned to the ref. Bit baffling it's not done in some sort of this fashion alrdy, but since they just announced new protocols, let's see what they come up with.

It was shocking to hear how the parties involved communicated the review outcome. It seems like they have no communication protocol at all. The purpose of the review was not even established, hence the miscommunication. Why do you need to rush the review result? Watch how video referral is done in field hockey. And field hockey is played at a faster pace. They did not rush the referral result, and the review audio televised live.

The linesman was at fault too! Why stick your flag up after the ball was in the net. Every goal is checked, ie offside, foul, interference etc. It added that little more confusion to what was being checked. The VAR guys were checking if the goal was legit. Which it was so they thought, not knowing that they were checking for the offside decision. If the linesman didn’t put his flag up, then the outcome would have been so simple.
