I’ve been on the planet for 50 years now & for as long as I can remember I’ve always loved music & im proud to be a part of generation that not only altered the musical landscape we owned it & I can say without fear of doubt that TOOL is the best band on the planet ....no one comes close
After a lifetime of being a Tool fan i finally was able to see them live. It was hands down the best show I have ever been to. Everyone walking out after the show seemed like they were taken to another level.
He's singing about the state of California or the L.A. area in particular. About seeing it sink into the ocean after the bug earthquake. Arizona being land locked will suddenly have a bay. MJK lives in a small town in Arizona.
Ms DarkstaR I think he gets way to many comments to read them all. Was hoping he’d see this one. Probably didn’t. But he’s got really genuine reactions.
Hey that's not fair, Mankind is helping with our ever increasing C02 emissions. We're going to drown CA in a couple years ... and most of our current coastlines ... and irrevocably damage our ecosystem beyond repair ...
I think what's grooviest about these reactions is how open people are now to listen to music not in their lane. When this came out, rap fans listened to rap, metalheads to metal, and we kind of stuck to ourselves. But now rappers are listening to Tool, pop artists are listening to hip-hop, metal artists are vibing on pop, everybody's checking out stuff from each other in ways we didn't before. It's really nifty how all the "tribes" are meeting, interacting, and appreciating each other more and more. It makes me hopeful for our future, because appreciating each other is the first step towards caring for each other and actually improving the world.
I never thought of the 'learn to swim' as problems building up. Interesting. I never thought of it that way. This is why I watch these reactions, to see other interpretations and learn more!
"Learn to Swim" Through The Bullshit of LA, or anywhere that rewards plastic and fake. Learn to Swim Through the onslaught of Willful and Celebrated ignorance, .Learn to swim in this new Social construct, or Drown in the resulting Cesspool by becoming one with it..
In a certain book father told someone to build a really big ass boat. Flooded the whole thing just to get a fresh start. One of my favorite songs ever love it. Thank God I swim Three times a week.
Was going to comment this before I saw so I just liked this comment and hopefully he will review that next! It's called "the golden triad" and it's an absolute masterpiece that is also just like a spiritual awakening for the soul! When it hits you it will make you realize just how genius Tool actually is it will make you realize alot of things about life and how we are all connected and how our own personal egos and our pride are meaningless and in many cases could even cause our own demise.. Tool is on another level compared to almost any other band and NO I don't have to get high to enjoy TOOL..they are like a natural high for me. The whole Lateralus album in my opinion is their best album and is something that will sound amazing generations from now in my humble opinion. Tool is definately like the new age Pink Floyd but they have their own unique style that no other band can imitate.
I’m glad you appreciate the consciousness behind the music. TOOL is the band that made me realize (when I was 16) that the world isn’t the way people try to make you believe it is. Think for yourself!
You get it! I really do love your uploads and seeing you experience certain songs for the first time I get jealous of you. I'll never experience that again.
@@goalie2998 I'm trying to remember which was which noe, because I just realized that I flipped the sleeve to the front cover when I got it new. Was the sleeve the one that made CA disappear & made AZ the coast, or what was the other side?
Man I appreciate ya!! You are genuinely moved by some of my favorite music. I’m a tool nut BUT you were caught off guard by Pink Floyd shine on you crazy diamond huh? That is some amazing shit right there!!!
I want to see Jamal’s take on “Eulogy.” I’ve read what most people think it’s about as well as several different things Maynard says it’s really about.
It's about killing your ego. Apparently this album is based of the book of the dead. The first song is about letting go of sexual pleasure, eulogy about ego, and so on leading the end. Don't forget the cookie recipe they did as well lol.
I just saw Tool live on Friday night, they should be witnessed live AT ALL COSTS! I've seen many bands and I've never seen anything like the Tool gig. They're definately worth travelling to see too. Bucket list band y'all!
He said that when I was a kid I’ve seen hundreds of shows backstage everything from operas to ozzy. That’s why I looked up this song today cause it’s going too be miserable going forward for everyone. Partying with some of these artists and bands was awesome.
I only just noticed you are at 137K subscribers, that's awesome dude, I've been watching since you were still in the low 5 digits and love your enthusiasm for new music.
This song is based off ideas presented by my favorite comedian Bill Hicks R.I.P... Maynard said Bill Hicks and tool were trying to get the same message across.. Bill Hicks changed my life.. He said he hoped California fell off the map leaving Arizona Bay.. This album was dedicated to Bill, i love the drawing of Maynard and Bill on the album artwork
Very true!! I was 22 when this came out was backstage for all the shows in wi and Chicago.too much fun!! Just think people can’t even see a concert today!!
@@johnpowell8188 I live in Tennessee. We only stopped having concerts for a few months back in 2020. It’s been pretty normal down here, I was at a show last night
I was in Nashville back in February I live in Milwaukee name 1 show with an audience of more than 5000 people. The virus aka plandemic. Idiots are still wearing masks there just like here.
@@johnpowell8188 I’m in Chattanooga and we’ve already had music festivals. Jason Aldean is playing this week. I’m sure that will be more than 5,000 people. I don’t listen to country though.. I don’t remember who all have been through town recently. I know there were some big acts that played but nothing I’d see. Bonnaroo is coming up soon also. That’ll be 70,000 people.
I'm so glad you're listening to tool! Maynard James Kennan is amazing! A perfect circle is another one of his bands and they are amazing as well. Pet is one of my favorites
I love this song. Takes me back to Bayridge Brooklyn days. I lived many ending. WTC 911, later mom past and last my beloved cat. Done with NY headed to Florida into Hurricane after hurricane but the night clubs, beaches, warm air and parties balanced it all out. I am still standing.
I love your authentic reactions. It's easy to see, that when you show that you're really digging a song, that it's not forced. Keep 'em coming, my man!
A mix of that and the California New Age scene of the time as embodied in the book "Nothing In This Book Is True..." which got into the 46+2 idea, the 3rd eye idea, the merkobah idea they got into on Salival, and a bunch of other ideas that were all around for a long time anyway but were pushed into the scene by that book.
There were themes throughout the album that were Hicks' concepts on which they expanded. Third Eye is an example of this, hence the addition of the snippet from Bill's bit about the war on drugs. I would say that the writing process for the album was heavily influenced by the pass8ng of their friend.
Love it brother. Ive been a die hard Tool fan since 92! I was 13 then 41 now. Wow. Only band i personally have ever truly loved. Thank you for breaking the meaning down for those mentally less fortunate. I agree whole heartedly with this track. Flush it down
Jamal - Thanks for entertaining us. You speak the truth!! I'm 56 years old and avid music fan with no real genre on my back. If it sounds good, it is good. I was introduced to them by listening to some bootleg basement, live shows in LA. When Opiate came out I was beyond hooked. Seeing them live for the first time, Aenima tour in '96 at the E-Center in SLC - After that show, I promptly drove to Nampa, ID and saw them again two nights later. Unforgettable. A recommendation from me to you would be Tool's Parabol as well as Reflection. Both from the Lateralus Album. Thanks again!!
I am 59 yrs old and old school rock and electric blues. Led Zepellin, ZZ Top, Black Sabbath, Muddy Waters and so forth. I heard tool on Sirrus radio but I discovered them this past week, meaning I paid attention to their lyrics, music and their lead singer, Maynard, is unreal.
I'm a huge Tool fan and THIS song is a REAL warning and I really enjoyed this video, WELL DONE. Learn to swim, go back to our basic roots of living in harmony with nature. RESPECT nature. Live SUSTAINABLY. The paradigm that exists is unsustainable. Change or DROWN.
So much larger than L.A. This consumer/corporate culture which is really a death culture. Learn to swim. Learn to regenerate the land. I'm blown away that TOOL puts this to music and lyrics with such spiritual power.
A perfect circle? 3 libras or Judith Have you heard any of those songs, with the same lead singer. Same with the band Pucifer. Undertaker is one of the songs I think
I love how excited you get for Tool (they've been my favorite since I was a child), like you are having a blast experiencing them. Rock on man rock on 🤟
It's about the hedonism of hollywood, and the entertainment industry in general. Arizona bay is a direct reference to two things. Superman the Motion picture, and Bill Hicks's 1997 commedy album.
My favorite TOOL song. I loved it the first time I heard it and still love it to this day. It explains everything to a T. Even after all these years its still Socially Relevant.
To be more specific...this song is about Maynard James Keenans (vocalist) dislike and distaste for the city of Los Angeles. At the time ‘this song was written he and his band mates lived there for several years, Maynard hated it and is the only band member who doesn’t live there now. He moved to AZ like 25 years ago. So when he sings flush it all away he’s talking about LA
Which if you look at L.A. right now and California as a whole you'll see Maynard was way ahead if the curve when he recognized what a toxic cesspool it is! 😂😂😂😂
I think he means the whole world but is concentrating on LA as the pinnacle of what is wrong... Learn to swim is in reference to the belief that a massive earthquake is gonna put California under water... The lyrics are just magnificent!
One of my faves at 61 yrs old. Amazingly honest. It's Christmas Eve here now. Today I received a bottle of CADUCEUS red table wine from a dear friend. Produced in NW Arizona by Maynard Keenan, lead singer now of course retired from Tool. Keenan is brilliant in his lyrics and music. Not many like him. Thanks much for the play
