This is what I wish someone would have told me before I dumped thousands of dollars into tools I can not warranty without shipping off and providing a receipt 🤦‍♂️... your experience might be different... but it depends entirely on the route driver... they are all seperate businesses and THAT is the issue...

Pretty hard to beat Tekton and Capri warranty. Take a pic, send it to them, and about two days later a new one comes. Simple as that. For real. And far cheaper than the coveted Snapon with arguably the same quality. Tekton does have some made in USA stuff also.

@@kwmiked I can buy 2 or 3 sets of capri, sunex, tekton and some gearwrench/sata for the pros , for the diy guy harbor freight, kobalt, husky works great, only buy snap on if no one else makes the tool. Their quality is not 2 to 3x better.

@@kwmiked Watch ClinetGraphics or TheTorqueTest Channel. They run torture tests and the Tekton go toe to toe with Snap On. That being said…those tests don’t show longevity of the tool. But the implement techs where I work primarily have Tekton ratchets and sockets and live and die by them.

@@kwmiked i might not rinch everyday as a job, but the projects i do are very indept, i sure as hell use and have more tools that most people 10 years as mechanics i even have tools to lend people so they dont lose the ones i like. So yeah I know they are not the same but for 90% of the time they will do the job. Only but that 10% if its a special tool.

After my garage & Snap On tools burnt down and rebuilt I went to Home Depot to replace my hand tools. 14 miles away and they have a no questions asked warranty. I love the last shot of tools!

I would do the same thing 100% man... and some of the "hardware store" tools are really decent... and like you said with the warranty policy... literally no questions asked... smart man 💯

The Home Depot’s around me are definitely NOT like that. No receipt? No warranty. Even if it says Husky right on the damn tool. I asked “you expect me to have a paper receipt from however many years ago?!” Their answer- “we’d need to see a receipt sir”. Needless to say, that stopped me from buying ANY “Lifetime Warranty” tools, well any hand tools @ all from Home Depot. Glad it’s easier for you fellas.

I sold all of my Snap-On/Mac/Matco/Cornwell stuff after I left the trades when I had a ruptured ulcer and needed the money to cover the time out of work. After I healed and went back to work I decided to try another (debt-free) way! This time I still have a few Snap-On items, but most of my ratchets are Capri/Icon/Pittsburgh/Carlyle/and a bunch of old Craftsman-USA that belonged to my father amd grandfather. I literally find myself reaching more often for my Capri or even Pittsburgh ratchets, and not the 2 Snap-Ons that I still have! My dad passed down some old Craftsman and Sears-Japan wrenches/sockets/ratchets to me and I use them often as well! My dad used those same tools to help build the very first B-2 stealth prototype when he worked for Northrop, he worked for Bell helicopter, his brother used them at NASA.. so why wouldn't they be good enough for me?! I absolutely hate this whole culture of tool-divas and tool snobs that convince new/young techs that you can't be cool or do your job unless you go into 15 years of debt to buy some rusty ass Strap-On tools! I'm not saying they don't make good tools because that'd be stupid to say.. but they just don't impress me anymore than mid-tier brands! The same thing is happening in the gun world too.. these Geissele/Novak fanboys wet themselves if you don't spend $4,000 on every rifle that you buy! It's so disturbing.. thats just brainwashing at its finest. I just don't feel that desire to impress other grown ass men and make them like me. I could care less..

My uncle was one of the first guys to design & build the B-2 at Northrop as well. He’s passed away now, but I think the original design engineering team was something less than 10 people when it was a top secret project. I’d bet your Father & my uncle Definitely knew each other. Small world huh. 🙏🏻

My take on current brands and tools for most bang for buck and warranty.. Cordless electric tools - Milwaukee, Dewalt (recent new tools), and Makita Impact sockets - Grey Pneumatic Chrome sockets - personal choice Ratchets - Mac, snap-on, Gearwrench, Icon even husky for some of the smaller ones Pliers - Knipex, for fuel lines cheap plier ones work just fine as you're grabbing rubber with metal.. Bits - Icon, Snapon gold bits (expensive for what they are), Tekton, Gearwrench Oh and Sunex isn't too bad for impact sockets and other stuff.

Interesting video...I've never been on a Snap-on franchisee truck, yet I have over $50k in Snap-on tools. Because I don't have a route driver, I send my tools back to Snap-on Corporate for replacement. Of the hundred or so tools I've sent in for warranty, I've never been asked to provide "proof of purchase" on any tool, regardless of the value. I'm not sure who you're dealing with, but I'm certain that I've dealt with nearly everyone in the customer service department.

I've delt with Snap-on corporate quite a few times and haven't never been asked for a receipt either. Hell they sent me a new 36 or 48 in pry bar and didn't even have me send in the old one! I've also delt with sk tools and they had me send them a pic of the tools needing warranted out. I had to wait on a few items to come back in stock. I'll never deal with matco again bc of shity dealer's! My mac dealer is top notch never questions anything I turn in for warranty. Even the stuff that shouldn't be covered!!

It’s awesome people are still doing tours of their setup! I like that you bring up icon from harbor freight! I was a mechanic for 8 years, blood sweat and tears along with paying a lot for truck tools! To find out how nice icon is and that they came to harbor freight a year or so after switching careers was sad but great to know! I really push the younger years/age kids coming into the industry to buy icon to start and upgrade if they want but you can really afford and pay half of the name brands! I’m sorry had to say something! New you your channel! Like to see what you post!

Very nice setup, and agreed with todays availability of better options you can pretty much forego the expensive options and utilize cheaper options time over time in comparison. Such as someone mentioning below you could buy many sets of Capri full sets for the price one set of snap on. Even if you “broke” one socket from Capri you could technically just get another while waiting on warranty.

I have to agree with just about everything you said. I run the shop for a commercial landscaper...The first 6 years I was here, I had 4 different SnapOn dealers. None of them had a clue what half the tools were for. Had two more after that, the last one just stopped coming around cause I wasn't buying any more. At least he knew what he was selling and he rode. Nice guy, straight up, never tried to BS me.

Hey John wanted to let you know on that snap on 14.4 cordless screw gun, they did come back out with a rocker switch in the new brushless motor. They come in red, green, hi-viz. Part # on the red is CTS861DB . Bare tool They are pretty sweet, just waiting for a good deal to come before I get it. I need batteries and charger.

John I have a collection of Snap-On and Mac tools Wish I knew better years ago. I agree Snap-On makes great ratchets but for sockets I use Harbor Freight or Sunex. Wrenches I use Craftsman or Gear Wrench Snap-on Screw drivers are junk I can twist the ends of with one hand. That is crazy you have to show proof if purchase if you have a broken tool. They should be able to look up your tool purchase history. That is why I quit buying from Snap-On and Mac they would not warranty broken tools I told them with that attitude they are going give Harbor Freight lots of customers.

Mechanics work on things other than cars. I work on Mining equipment and everything comes in a wooden crate for World wide shipment. I use a claw hammer,nail puller, circular saw all the time.

I definitely agree with you. Our Snap-on guy is trash.. wayyy overpriced, charges what he wants weekly instead of what's agreed upon, and doesn't warranty anything you didn't buy from him. He'll take it from you and send it out unless it's bluepoint, in which case it's just a no..🤦🏾‍♂️

I got into that Snap On racket back in 1983 and spent about 30,000.00 on them back then. Still have them but havent bought a Snap On tool in probably 30 years.

I’ve worked as a mechanic for 41 years and spent £27000 on tools from snap on and Mac and my wages are lower than 10 years ago and my company don’t care a crap job to be in so glad to be retiring soon feel so sorry for future apprentices.when I sell my box I’m buying a great watch to show me it was worth it

That's why I bought german tool brands ratchets sockets wrenches from Gedore Hazet Stahlwille pliers of corse Knipex and hammers from Gedore (I like woodhandles with these protection under the head ) plus some extra things from Vim tools and Toptul. These brands may have no lifetime warranty but there less money highest quality and nice finish (in my opinion). As you said the lifetime warranty doesn't matter if nobody is willing to warranty it for you. Often time I bought something german I compared prices to snap-on and mostly it was the third of the snappy price. So I got more tools including specialty stuff for same amount of $ and been able to work better and faster from the beginning. It was like an investment working out. Even if sometime something break out of the warranty time and I have to buy it new it's worth for me and many many mechanics technicans often trading their old tools for the new stuff only to have the newest style handle or what ever. For each their own if you like snappy mac etc. buy them but before listen to John.

Snap on route driver to my shop gave my co worker brand new items for lost tools due to bad route driver. He just pays the repair fee. So you are 100% correct. All on the driver

Same thing happened to me I had a matco truck come buy I bought a big 3bank box and tons of wrenches sockets you name it then he decided not to update his truck and went independent selling gear wrench so all my matco stuff is shit when it breaks you need a dependable drive that’s always gonna be there for you

I do landscaping and work out of my barn, so the trucks won't stop at my house. I meet up with the truck somewhere. I usually stop when I see one of the trucks to meet a new driver or touch base with an older one. I texted request, and the response tells me whether I should look for a new driver. Most are happy to tell me where they will be and are happy to help me.

John, have you tried Wiha screwdrivers? As a journeyman machine repair / millwright I find them to be about the best made. Long wearing and great fit in the faster. I also have moved to their T handle tools for Torx and socket head fasteners. My favorite ratchets have been SK and Proto professional. Sockets... original USA made craftsman have served me well. Now that they are Chicom I'll replace with SK if any break.

They're ok, I find them to be lacking in quality compared to others I've used, wera and snap on. I find the roundness of the handle rolls and pinches my skin so mine sit in a bucket and get abused when the time comes

I just purchased PB Swiss full tang screwdrivers (black handles) - what a pleasure to use them. I set up production machines for a living. Like Knipex pliers, once you find the best, nothing else compares.

I was lucky in a way I grew up where my father owned a small outdoor power dealership where he would almost beg a snap on guy to stop spent a small fortune when he did stop. when I opened a new location and the snap on guy stopped in, I remembered all the troubles getting tools replaced at the old store and did not want to go through that again. all of my snap on tools are 2nd hand from my dad for that reason.

Generally your guy will warranty anything as long as you were the original purchaser. If you didn't buy it you can't expect a warranty

I agree with some of the other comments; Capri Tools does a excellent job with their hex/torx sockets. I also like their flex head wrenches...For impact sockets, Sunex and Grey Pneumatic are very good, and in my opinion, they wear much better than Snap-on. I also stand behind Pittsburgh Pro impact socket; especially the 1/2" drive set.

That harbor fright icon brand is pretty damn good I have a snap on ratchet that looks very similar to the Icon its a older snap on ratchet but the icon feels just as good tbh and I've have had no issues with it. An if I did I could easily take it for a warranty exchange so I think its a win win man.

The only exceptions on the power tools is the cordless ratchet (also the 14.4 🔋) but when you don’t work on heavy line engines and diesel work it is worthless but you work on small engines (lawnmowers, etc) but yeah oh and the air impact mg725 1/2, mg325 3/8, awesome.

That's my issue. When I stopped buying full time and decided to take a break from Wrenching, they didn't want to deal with me anymore so I stopped using their tools . Other options work just as good

I agree. Why is it so hard for companies to put socket sizes that you can friggin' see? Now that's quite annoying. Also, some of the big name tool companies are now name brand coasting on the reputation they earned over many years.

Matco doesn't even make their screwdrivers, the Germans do, its Witte. They are lovely screw drivers, smooth triangular grips fit my hand just right. Got some Japanese Vessel screwdrivers recently with the tang all the way through from the tip to the striking cap, they seem nice too, haven't used them yet.

I will agree, MAC Tools is perhaps the hardest tool manufacturer to deal with. They are so behind on manufacturing lead-times, to the point I have a pile of tools that I'll just sit on until they get their crap together. Snap-on is much easier for me, as I only need to send them an email and I receive a pre-paid shipping label to return the tool.

He is right about no warranty with no route driver. I have no Matco guy and wouldn't you know it, about 5-6 matco tools to warranty. Probably just replace them with Gearwrench or Snap On (have a good snap on rep)

With age comes wisdom and har learned lessons. Years ago I started buying more budget friendly. I buy expensive ratcheting pieces. But I realized no matter how good a Philips screwdriver claim to be the wear.

I’ve been working by this philosophy for awhile. It’s started when I was first buying tools. I focused way more on cheaper companies that had good lifetime warranty’s. if I found a certain tool needed way to much warranty I would then invest. But over the long time the amount of tools I’ve needed to do that to is so minimal. All my tools last a lifetime with lifetime warranty. Why spend huge money. Tools are made to make me money not cost me money

On the screwdrivers, Mac are rebranded proto and matco are rebranded witte. But I agree just changing the blade on a screwdriver is stupid.

One would think that as large as snap-on Mac, and the other big name tool companies that sell through distributors, are route drivers, whether independent or not. They're still representing the company name, and they buy the products from the companies, and I'm sure they have paperwork are digital information that they turn in for sales records, and surely warranty registration for every tool or whatever has the company name on it. So that means that they have a trail on every sale ever made, and on that trail of sales and whatever else is the salesmen name along with the customers, and both account numbers that of salesperson and customers. So all they have to do is make a data base that the warranty departments can access in order to verify whether it's covered, and anything else that they need to do whatever needs to be done. So that's BS, about not being able to send anything in for warranty, that's they're way of copping out on having to warranty everything they sale. Just think of the millions of dollars that these companies are saving, that doesn't include the people who go buy the same tools again, because they can't get them warranted, but have to have them to do whatever they do. So I'll say it again, BS, because they've got the information if you bought it from a route driver, but if you bought it through another source, and you didn't do the paperwork are online registration then that's on you. Otherwise I say they have everything they need to take care of the customers if they want to. My opinion, and how I believe the systems work from what I've experienced over the years of buying tools, and knowing several route drivers personally as friends. So scamming people every way big corporations can, no different than ExxonMobil for instance. Does everyone, they may have a price increase for a barrel of oil, but instead of charging for whenever the point where those tankers are processed, they immediately raise the price instantly across the board on every once of fuel you buy, and it seems like it takes forever for the cost to go down afterwards. Yet they're still making trillions of dollars profit every minute of the day, and so where's the law stating that price gouging is illegal applying to them are the other products that they have freedom to rape the people regardless of whatever country you live in.

Interesting video, I’d have to disagree on the snap on screwdrivers, as I think the make great screw drivers, and yes I’ve broken them while using them as pry bars. I just the buy the Williams or CAT branded also use the MAC tools the old hard Handel set. Great collection of tools, I’m also a fan of the snap on screw gun I’ve had mine 8 years no problems great tool and the 18volt impact gun. I guess we will have to agree to disagree ☘️

I bought a set of Snap-On drivers, a set of Milwaukee drivers and a set of Weras. The damn Milwaukees absolutely embarrassed the Snap-Ons and basically smoked the Weras too! I expected pure shit for the price and was blown away! I guess it depends on how you use them and I'm pretty tough on tools.

Just bought my self a set of German Hazet 810 spc/6 piece screwdriver set quality better than snap-on by far ,as good as wera,wiha and witte 👍🏻. Ps it took ages to get a screwdriver set as good, as i tried about six different brands not van brand's can't afford them lol I understand what you get for your money but as you said it's all about the reliability of the salesperson 👍🏻☕🇬🇧

Regarding the Snap-On wobble plus extensions....Capri makes their own version of the same exact thing for substantially cheaper.

I Feel your Pain, I have Multi thousands of dollars in Tools and Boxes I uses as a Professional Mechanic....... now at almost 70 what too do with them.....My whole younger life is in those boxes .....sad No...? I worked in school Buses, NOT one was ever Hurt on one of my Buses. Hope that gets ms in Heaven.

Same deal basically. Our route driver stopped coming when the two guys with the big truck accounts got let go during covid. Everyone else in the shop paid cash. The truck driver wasn't getting rich on us but he wasn't going broke either. Poof gone...

I have owned them all route drivers sucked unless you worked at a shop with 6 or 7 people at the end of the day I swear by craftsman tools if I need a special tool I order it granted I don’t have costumers waiting so when I get that specialty tool I get it I just can’t justify spending all that money on so called hi end tools

Snap On has been going down hill for awhile now. With Amazons quick delivery and HF’s warranties, Napa’s Caryle brand. Too many options now. Snap on will fizzle out.

I have both Snap On and MAC that i bought decades ago, but the warranty is a pain in the a$$ as they require a receipt. I wont buy them anymore. Too many other companies that have a FAR, FAR BETTER WARRANTY that warranty no questions asked not needing a receipt. Who fracking keeps tool receipts ???

That sucks you had bad experiences with tool guys. My snappy and matco guy will literally warranty ANYTHING no questions asked! With a brand new tool.

I'm sorry you are having an issue with your tool situation, I've made a living for over 40 years with my tools, and have original tools older than you, and have used every tool that has been manufactured over the years and Snap On is the best,now granted there are many more manufactured products now days, and I can remember when craftsman was a major player, and actually had excellent products,but like I said there are many other brands who now are offering a decent product at a decent price range, use what works for you and your can afford, remember a lot of tools I own where a lot cheaper than they are now

To comment something different besides we agree as everyone is saying, which I too agree. But besides the points you laid out, when it comes to innovation , new designs and new tools that solve a problem, it's not coming from the tool trucks anymore. The only innovation from a tool truck in the past 5 plus years has been the RBRT Mac stuff. The tools trucks are sending more and more overseas and then give you the same old tool in a new choice of colors and tell you it's an upgrade. Dont piss on my boots then charge me a million bucks the tell me it's raining. Capri, Tekton, Sunex and Mayhew cover everything. Maybe Snapon ratchets but that literally it

First hand experience. Sending your tools into Snap-on is a breeze. They don't ask for proof of purchase. They ask where you got it from. I've sent in multiple ratchets, screwdrivers, breaker bars, etc. They ask you your name, model number of the tool, where you purchased it from, example tool truck, and shipping information. They sent me a prepaid label for everything I have warrantied, and some stuff I didn't have to send in, just sent pictures. I don't have a tool truck for warranty, and all of my stuff is for my home personal work. I understand your frustration, but email support, and see what they do for you. Only complaint I have right now is I have a 1/2 breaker bar that they have approved warranty on, did not require me to send it in, but it is on eternal backorder. been a month now, and they are hopeful in a week they have some coming, other than that emailing support has been a real treat for me.

I'm in the exact same situation as a shop owner.....can't get a dealer interested in servicing my shop as ive been in the business for 30yrs and have most every tool they make...so new sales are not as high here as they are at shops with 5yr techs.....TOOL BUSINESS IS A FUCKING JOKE!!! SNAP-ON ESPECIALLY

hell, my brother has a mac guy and apparently hes a dick. the snap on guy doesnt ever show up and they dont have a matco guy. the tool trucks in canada usually suck, i had one matco guy at an old shop that showed up every friday, mac and snap on were meh, the snap on guy ignored everyone apart from one old tech and the mac guy was just awkward

With no route driver and being expected to send it in aka use the mail like the vast majority of brands do now adays ?? Why by snap on (mine you I’m not out right hating snap on) I’m just saying . You don’t have a dealer and your expected to send it in?? Fuck that …. I have A LOT of Milwaukee and tekton hand tools and when they break and I’ve only broken two things it was extremely hassle free and they mailed replacements out free of charge and it’s half the price of snap on and given you have to mail it in with snap on why bother

Mac tools suck ,when I started I went on a mac tool truck I needed 1\ drive socket set I was new at my job the tool guy wanted me to pay upfront ,long story short paided the guy ,and never saw him again

What state are you in? Any of my dealers would be happy to warranty your tools. Sorry about your luck but I’ve honestly never had a bad experience with Mac, Snap-on, cornwell or matco. And why are you over exaggerating the prices and having the actual size and part number being visible? Pick your battles dude and don’t be a drama queen. I’ve been doing this for 22 years working on diesels and never had the issues you have and you honestly sound very green.
