I will be unboxing and reviewing the new Dremel 8260 which is a great tool for the beginner DIYer or intermediate woodworker. This tool is so versatile and I loved playing around with it. It's great with cutting trim, with wood carving decor, cutting, and even routing.
This is the first tool I have had that comes with an app to help you with tool care and answering questions you might have. I have never been able to figure out speed and this app helps you to figure out what bit calls for what speed. It gives you your battery info as well.
Super cool
Thanks to Dremel for sponsoring this video, here are the links for the tool.

Great review, thank you! Not sure if you know this or not, but I noticed during your video you kept using the separate small wrench/spanner to tighten the collet nut, however the EZ Twist nose cap on your dremel has an integrated wrench/spanner built into it to tighten and loosen the collet nut so you don't have to go searching for the small one every time. Makes it much more convenient! 😉

One feature you missed is that all dremel cordless rotary tools made for the past 10 years (since the 8220 at least) feature another way to tighten or loosen the collet and tool bit... You unscrew the finger guard as if you are removing it to screw on an attachment like the router guard. But instead of removing the finger guard you use that to tighten/loosen the collet holding the tool bit. Very handy of you have misplaced the little collet wrench.

Have you used its predecessor? if yes, how does it compare to this, is this really worth the hype in terms of efficiency, battery capacity and torque?
@EternalHarvestDecor

Hi! I have not used the earlier model, but lovin this one! It says battery is better comparatively though

I wouldn't buy another cordless Dremel unless I used it frequently. The batteries die quickly with limited use and can cost near as much as the tool to replace. If you just use one off and on, I would recommend a corded one. I thought the cordless one would be cool but whenever I need it, I'm looking to do a quick job and end up needing to charge the battery or it's just shot. That's my experience.
@nsaxiom
@nsaxiom Год назад
That was more true with the pre-Li-Ion batteries. New Li-Ions hold their charge much longer. I suggest you give them a shot.

Just to say, that's a sale so Dremel spent their sponsorship money well! I have a 8220 but it has the plastic screw threads on the accessory mount stripped (at this price point, Dremel really ought to make the front end from die-cast metal). It also gives really poor torque at low speeds and a brushless motor in theory ought to fix that, if they've done it right. I'm hoping (and expecting) that the accessories and battery will carry over and I'll only need to scrap the motor unit.

Is the charger adapted to 220 volts?
@nsaxiom

The US adapter is not 220 V compatible. You will need to buy the Dremel intended for your Region.

Nobody ever mentioned the price during reviews.. a hair under $200... $170 plus tax!! Way more then even a really nice brushless imact drill.. like a good $50 more, i really don't see why it is so much. Other then the crazy price it seems like a nice product and a great evolution of a timeless idea. Love dremels!

Hi - quick question.. y'know the on/off switch.. obviously works by SLIDING forwards or backwards... but does yours move DOWN further into the body of the tool if you PRESS it down in towards the inside.. and then come back up with you take the pressure off? I just got mine the other day but i noticed that there was 'play' vertically when you put your finger or thumb on the button, and non of my previous Dremels did that - they were quite solid and firm when you slid them on or off... Pls could you let me know - even a short vid would be good..?

@@christianwolstencroft3431 thank you for asking this & following up! mine is the same and your comment is the first info I've found that confirms this is normal (but really makes the tool feel fragile and cheap... as someone who designs machinery for a living, this is likely going to be a major failure point of the unit unfortunately...)

Sorry, not a fan of rechargeable battery dependent tools although I am a fan of brushless AC powered tools which keep on working even when off grid powered with a small portable generator. Don't like climbing up and down looking for batteries which need charging if they charge at all.

Why, oh why, does everything have to have an app. The indicator on the tool itself shows that the battery level is low. Finding out what percentage it is, is just a naff gimmick. As for the tool revolutions required for each bit/attachment - these tools have always come with a very comprehensive booklet providing all of that information.

Always remove the battery before locking the tool.

Good luck removing the battery out of the Dremel Micro, it's integrated and can't be removed, showing not even Dremel actually cares about removing the battery first to change bits. You are probably the only one to care. With the number of respectable professionals changing bits exactly like she did one wonders if you might have commented about it because you wanted to be negative to her and tried to find any "mistake" you could. It's only in the manual in dremel mentions removing the battery when storing and making "any changes" for liability just like hot liquid warnings on coffee cups. (It is even written in the micro model which doesn't have a removable battery). The actual step by step instructions don't say to remove the battery, and she followed those steps. To add more evidence that your suggestion is unnecessary, professional machinists don't unplug their drill press, lathe or mill when chucking up a tool or part and those tool can break your hand and worse. Go watch Adam Savage a celebrity in the building world, he just uses the power switch like most people including with his hand rotary tools. Saying remove the battery to swap bits is the same level of thinking as advising everyone to wear a helmet all day and night just incase they lose balance and fall. Or advising people to wear a fireproof apron and face shield anytime they cook for themselves in their kitchen in case if a grease flame. Telling people always remove the battery to change the bit is unnecessary advise at best.

@@DaniGirl6 respectfully, mills and lathes don't have fiddly little switches that are in close proximity to the chuck. as a someone who both designs heavy machinery and who uses tools all day for work, when using a corded Dremel, I always unplug to change bits, which is the equivalent of removing the battery. it's tool safety 101 to take basic steps to prevent accidental powering-up of the tool when there are loose parts or other hazards (like during times when you know you'll be touching the bit with your hand). Dremel for whatever reason decided to design their switch so that your hand is most likely touching it or near it while you're changing the bit, hence why it's important for this specific tool to always unplug or remove the battery. and even if you personally choose not to, it's still irresponsible to give people who aren't trained in tool safety (i.e. the majority of dremel users) advice that goes against basic tool safety knowledge that any actual machinist would be highly familiar with. just saying.
