I enjoy your videos! You’ll want to remove the minimum amount of material when sharpening. Quick tip; color the cutting edge of your shears or scissors with a sharpie and then grind just until all of the marker has been removed the full length of the blades and stop. Im guessing the two slots on that machine are for grinding at two different bevel angles. The manual should describe which to use for specific types of cutting or scissors. Which ever you use on a particular pair of shears you’ll want to always use that same angle during each future sharpening. Changing angles will require additional grinding on the blades to reestablish the bevel the length of the blades. Hope this makes sense, but by coloring the bevel on the blades and checking after each pass through the grinder you’ll see what I mean. I’d also make the same number of passes on each blade so that each blade is having the same amount of material removed from them. Once you have all of your scissors and shears ground to which ever bevel angle you use it should only take one or two passes two freshen up the edges unless you get a big nick in a blade. Good luck!

I'm envious. I use two in the shop, both Weiss. One for cutting and one for around the bench. I would sharpen only those two. But there's nothing nicer than always having sharp scissors. Good investment.

Hey Aimee, before I retired from the GM trim dept. I would check out the scissor sharpener from the tool crib about a $380 unit, very nice, most everyone would drop off their scissors at my bench, I would have a pile, I was known as the scissor guy! The angle of scissors from the factory was 35% if you were going to cut carpet or leather that day you would want a 45% angle. Does your owners manual give an angle of degrees? Or is it somehow adjustable? Big fan love your videos, Thanks!
@ArtisanUpholsteryStudio
@ArtisanUpholsteryStudio 4 года назад
There’s the slot that it fits in, so only one angle. It does come with a little attachment for Knife edge scissors though

Dump question but does this also sharpen left handed scissors? Like you I've always purchased expensive scissors because skimping on quality just doesn't add up. I've used a couple of manual sharpeners but none do the job sufficiently well so I'm hoping you've found a cost efficient way of keep my scissors sharp. Keep up the good work.

Hi Aimee, long time no hear. Glad you are doing well. Are you social distancing and wearing your mask? In my line of work I have to be up close and personal so I practice and use all precautions. Quite the collection of scissors, maybe you could donate some of them to a worthy soul. That was a lot to pay for a sharpener, but I can see how it would be a benefit to you especially if it works as good as your professional does. Be safe!!
