TRAKing Pat goes over the Tool Table on the ProtoTRAK RMX CNC. Split in 3 sections, this fly-out window makes it extremely easy to program and call up tools for later use. The Tool Library allows machinists to store all their saved tools for any future projects.

Pat something is missing or I can't find it. I'm new to this control. The book says to set the base tool to go to the Base Tool part of the tool table screen. Can't find that. I see the words BASE and NOT SET. Is there a place to tell it you are setting the base tool? RXS DPM5

I'm a little confused because there is no such thing as a RXS. Do you mean RMX? If so, there should be a small spherical piece in the tool box that fits inside of a 3/8" tool holder. That is your base tool. Once you find it, touch that tool off of any solid place on your machine. I like to use the back of my vise for this but anything that stays constant will work. You can also use the table. On the left of the control, select the tool table. Then, at the top of the page while the BASE is highlighted in blue, touch that tool as described and push the ABS SET button. It will change form NOT SET to SET. After that, touch each tool in your program or library off of the same place and push the ABS SET key for each. Each of them will show the Z offset. The number shown in the Z offset is the difference in length between the base tool and each tool. That's all there is to it. Once all of your tools are set, go to DRO to set your part Z zero. Make sure that the tool you use to set Z zero is listed at the top of the page while in DRO. If you have more questions, feel free to contact me again. T.P.

@@trakingpat2750 thank you Pat. Sorry typo yes RMX. Love your videos. My machine isn't yet up and running so I'm playing with offline programming. I can't touch a tool. I guess what I'm saying is the directions dont specifically say what to click on. Just says the BASE tool section. I didnt know to select the word set if that's what you mean and to click on abs set. Just saying I had a time figuring that out. Do you create a library tool that is the base tool?

I think I have it figured out. Machine is up and running. Have to set the base tool at every startup. Made my first part yesterday and haven't had any training yet.

Hey Pat we just picked up a DPM rx7 and I too am struggling to understand the base tool feature. Fumbled through it all day yesterday and fired it up this morning went to touch off base tool and as soon as i did it was set without me hitting any buttons. I was also curious about the best procedure for setting tools where you constantly have to jog in z to accomodate tool lengths? Thanks in advance

An entire video on setting tools starting with the base would be extremely helpful.

Hi C.J. First of all, let's start from the machine being turned off. When you first turn it on, the base tool will not be set. Put your base tool in the spindle and touch it off any solid place or a tool setting indicator. Push the set key and it will change to set. From here on out, just touch each tool to set up to that same reference point and push the set key. The control will measure the difference between each tool and the base tool. If you do this in the library before you create a program, it may make more sense. Next, add a library tool number to each of these tools so that you can use them without having a program in it. Lastly, if you turn off the control, when you turn it back on, just touch your base tool off the reference again and push set. All of the tools in your library will be correct. I hope this helps! On a side note, I can see that a few things have changed since we shot this video so I like your suggestion and we will shoot a new one. Thank you! T.P
