I'm an Aircraft Mechanic that primarily works on Boeing 747-400 and 767-300 cargo planes. I have quite a few Tekton tools in my go box, and couldn't be happier. Theier quality to price ratio is amazing. I've only had 3 ocasions in 5 years that I broke a tool from them, and truth be told, probably my fault in the first place. All 3 times I shot an email to their warrenty dept with a pic and description of what was broken and recieved a new one in the mail next day. That includes the 3/8 composite coated rachet that I dropped 65 feet to concrete. It barely cracked the case and the gears still worked. Replaced with no questions asked. In my field, I could care less where a tool is made as long as they'll give me another one if i fuck it up. lol
Great insight on these tools. I'm a diesel mechanic and I'm needing to upgrade some tools soon. And came across tekton tools. Been interested in them since and now seeing this video im definitely learning towards them
Also heard and read a lot of good things about Tekton impact sockets. Curious about their fastener fit. One thing I love about Sunex is how well they fit the fastener. Partly b/c I use them with ratchets and breaker bars, not just impacts. I've read discussions, probably on Garage Journal, where some people prefer their sockets to fit loosely for use on deformed / out of spec bolts, but interchanging metric / SAE equivalent sizes seems to accomplish same without sacrificing grip on the non-f-ed up ones.
asm154 1 ya that is a very good point you bring up with how the sockets fit the fasteners and I agree it is probably better to just flip from sae to mm or vise versa to get that better fit. and ya I have heard a lot of great things about tekton impact sockets. I'm very curious to get my hands on a set eventually
Great video . I have been replacing all my older craftsman tools with tekton tools .I am very pleased with the quality of their newer tools . I have the 3/8 flex head ratchet for over a year and use it every day with no problems . Their combination wrenches are made very well and are holding up very well to everyday use. I will be getting a set of screwdrivers as well. They seem to have good reviews.
ak fabrications yes your absolutely right. they do have some really nice products and a great price. I'm really glad to hear you are enjoying those products!
Wow, I can't wait until the day when I'm doing well enough to have a shelf in my garage for... just a couple hats....24:27... Just a couple... That day is in my future man, I can just feel it. You are an inspiration. *** Great review video though, thumbs up****
I love my Tekton tools. They aren't the best like Snap-on or Matco but they'll get the job done especially if you use them for what they're intended for. The impact sockets are incredible! Work great on my 1/2 Ingersoll Rand.
I think I know your tool box better than mine. I've got Tekton's ratcheting 72-point flexhead combinations, both SAE (1/4" - 1") and metric (8 - 19). They're the best wrenches I'll ever own. Also have their offset ratchets (1/4", 3/8") with comfort grips for general use. I prefer them to DeWalt's, which are almost too hefty.
A Frend haha I know what you mean. and ya the dewalt ones are pretty damn hefty. Thank you so much for sharing. and ya I love my tekton wrenches as well. even though i just have the standard combo wrenches they are still great. Thank you so much for sharing and watching!!
Great vid I have Tekton tools I think they are good for the price the angle wrenches are not something used every day. I have some harbor freight pry bars for 30 years hammered on them the never broke bend . I am surprised some of the cheaper tools that have held up to almost every day use. I think I am one of those guys willing to try the cheaper tools first if they break then maybe tool truck brands to replace. I usually have backups as I have had tools that failed and needed another you don't have it and you out of luck. Thanks for the great vids
John Gibson thanks! and ya I know what you mean. sometimes I buy the cheap version of the tool and sometimes I get lucky and the tool ends up to be great and I save a lot of money and sometimes I'm not lucky and need to spend more money lol. Thank you for watching!!
Audio is better. I've got the 1/4 & 3/8 sets they're nice, ratchets have a good feel, haven't got a ton of use yet. They are difficult to get out of the cases so good if you're travelling, bad any other time. I bought the deep 1/2 drive sets before they had the big sets wish I had waited.
Really like the usa made screwdriver, I would use it a lot but it's black and in Vegas summer that thing gets f'n hot fast in sunlight. Keep up the good videos!
baron24601 haha damn I didn't even think about that lol. Thank you so much for sharing and watching. ya I have a set of the screwdrivers on order now. excited to get my hands on them
There got very good sockets i never knew there brand until i bought out my friends home box he needed money sold it to me 600 nox and all in it ive been working with them for 6six years in semi truck that work in least roads more then on streets I've beat them and still have them very good sockets most of the harbor freights i started with are broken and don't even use since i bought these
I have the screw drivers set, study wrench, short & deep metric 1/2 & 3/8 set. Use mostly on domestic and import cars. Some time German cars. Beside that I am big fan of them.
Hey hi Tony. I can say I've never held or seen tekton tools. Just not popular over here in the North East I guess here I thought I've seen them all. Maybe to new for me. I have just about all types Fuller s-k I bought a sunex wrench set and Carlyle they are both pretty good and the wrenches I bought at wall Mart are pretty good hyper tough are fine also I even have a blue point, bought a five pc snap-on wrench set all kinds so many tools so little time and money lol
My only experience with Tekton so far has been with their Torx bit set. I was using them in my Makita 18v mid-range impact and broke three of them within 30 minutes. The good news is that Tekton replaced the entire set very quickly. I was trying to take a roll bar off of a Jeep Wrangler. In the future I will be more careful and use a breaker bar to loosen them initially.
Ya I think a breaker bar to loosen them is a good idea. Glad they replaced them quick. They will be releasing new impact grade ones soon so if you run into any issues in the future you may get one of the upgraded ones as a replacement
@@Opiemus yes I understand that. I'm just saying they are about to release new upgraded impact torx bit sockets. So you may get an upgraded version of you ever have to warranty them again
T, I really love the videos you do. I am just starting a stump grinding business and I am looking for a good company for my tools and I really like the Tekton line from what I've seen and my main question is- is it best in your opinion should I buy them from the Tekton website or from Amazon (which would save me a few bucks... I hope that I am asking that question right)? Any advice or help or tips would be greatly appreciated... Thanks and have a great day.
Yes the tekton site is usually best as far as pricing and you get 10% in rewards so thats always nice. But it's always worth double checking Amazon to see the price they have for whatever tool you are looking for
I use them but I'm in Australia and they're not available here hence we have to buy them from Amazon in USA and are very expensive when they arrive here but very impressed with the finish and thee ratchet drives and I'm only a retired sparky here but love the TEKTON TOOLS,if only they were a bit cheaper in AUS
@@TonyTheTechnician This item - TEKTON 1/4, 3/8 Inch Drive Universal Joint Socket Set, 33-Piece has just arrived and really impressed with it but for confined spaces and the like it will be priceless, very well designed with short overall length, cost AU$340 landed here
As a professional mechanic , have a set of Metrinch 62 PC Combo Spanner Socket set from 1995 and still kicking ass ? Since then I don't reach for the others much .
asm154 1 ohh nice I forgot you got that kobalt torque wrench. glad you enjoying. I'll have to look up that center punch I haven't even seen that. Thank you!
TonyTheTechnician not sure how many folks know this: you can use an automatic center punch to shatter a car window. Good life safety tool to keep in the glove box.
TonyTheTechnician additional comments on the Kobalt torque wrench & the warranty: Checked it against my beam style wrench and it was right on the money. Also, calibration certificate had it at 1% accuracy, well below the stated 4%. Nice mirror like finish. 32 teeth. Smooth. Low back drag. Torque setting ring is smooth & sure. Only tested / guaranteed in the clockwise direction for those who care. Other than that, indistinguishable from my old Snap-On-CDI. Clicks audible & noticeable enough in hand at low settings to not have an issue. Now if you're blasting music, wearing thick gloves, and setting to 20 ft lbs, maybe turn the music down a little or wear Microflex style gloves 😉. For those that like the pull down locking ring style of micrometer TR, recommend checking out the Kobalt 👍. One note about warranty: Does say lifetime warranty on the package, 1 year on the insert. BUT, I (and employees at HD - Husky and Lowes who told me lifetime on box takes precedence when dealing with a broken or defective tool) interpret that to mean the calibration is guaranteed for 1 year. The tool itself, should it fail, is covered by that lifetime warranty badge on the box. This is consistent with common sense, as it is recommended to get TR's re-calibrated every 1 year regardless, and a torque wrench out of calibration after 1 year is not defective or broken. 😎 Wrench on 👍👍💪
@@rbgenski ya that really are. I got rid of this old set bc I never used that style. But when the released the new USA ones I wanted them lol but I figured I would start by just buying a size or 2 of the ones I know I would use
...to me, the snap-ring pliers being solid, non-interchangeable tips are a BIG PLUS!...I absolutely HATE having to fiddle with changing/keeping up with the tips...much easier to just pick up another set of pliers...and the solid ones seem much sturdier/stronger...plus, they usually offer better clearance when reaching into recesses(which snap-rings seem to always be in)....
So what happens when tekton discontinues Atul and someone goes to warranty it out, are they Sol on the warranty where do they get a replacement of a newer model?
If it's discontinued and rereleased as a better version like the ratchets for example then you get the updated ratchet. If it's something the discontinued and didn't release a new version then it's just like any other tool company I suppose since they definitely don't want to send you the discontinued version since it was probably discontinued and not rereleased for a reason. But I'll have to ask about that for a sure answer
My tekton collection consists of the 1/2 impact extensions, hand impact, and oil filter wrench (I'm also looking into the 3/8 torque wrench), I guess great minds think alike! I'm also curious about the warranty on the impact bits as I have worn one of them out, I'll shoot tekton an email.
Video looked good and sound was great also. I'd never try to overlay audio over video either, talk about a pain in the ass. Got the video of my kid opening up your package and I'll get that up tomorrow. Tekton saw that craftsman was heading downhill and they've done a good job of coming up in their quality to fill that gap for a high quality mid priced tool line like Gearwrench. Gearwrench has many more tool offerings but Tekton has more made in USA tools. Tekton pliers are made here in Kansas at the Hiawatha Wilde manufacturing plant. Wilde is the company that makes the craftsman pry bars everyone loves. If Tekton brings back those angle open end wrenches they'll be on the top of my list for those wrenches because I can afford them and I don't do hydraulics that often. I have a bunch of stuff in my amazon wishlist that is Tekton because they are that good now. Can't beat their warranty either.
I don't have any of Tekton's ratchets but I've heard awesome reviews of their long handled ratchets. I think they are pear shaped and 72 tooth but not sure. Next ratchet on my list is their 1/4" roto head ratchet. They are by far my favorite style of ratchet. I have a 3/8 snap on roto head and I've used it on damn near every job I've ever done.
Hard Knocks Forge ohh thank you for that info I guess it was really smart for them to up the quality when craftsman started going downhill. and ya I saw the pliers were made in Kansas I thought that was pretty awesome! ya they said those angle wrenches should be back on the market this year sometime. and ya tekton doesn't have a lot of different tools but your right they are doing a great job of making the tools they do have a really good quality. haha I also have a lot of tekton in my wishlist as well lol. they are a great price. Thank you so much for your support and commenting. can't wait to see that video!
Hard Knocks Forge ya I have heard the same thing about the ling handled ratchets and I think you are correct about the design of them as well. and Roto ratchets are amazing. I just recently got my gearwrench ones and they are great!
They're 89 piece 1/2 inch drive socket set rules, there is not another company out there that can match the quality the warranty or the price on the 89 peace half-inch drive socket set for $200
Still waiting for them to bring in their new full set of standard angle wrenches. Been waiting months for them and their customer service couldn't tell me when they will be back in stock when I talked to them around new years. Just checked their website and it says 6+ weeks.... so I'm guessing they still don't know when. The weak part of inexpensive impact drivers are those bits. I don't know how many i've twisted or wrecked by just using them like they are suppose to be. Never had a problem with the bits that snap-on use for their impact driver.
Even the snap on bits twits and break. Had that problem with every brand you can only expect so much. And as far as the angle wrenches from tekton they have been in stock 3 times since new years and sold out in a couple days bc they are in high demand. So they are hard to get but about every month they have a new supply so if you sign up for email notifications you will be able to order them
TonyTheTechnician I have put myself on email notification, but have never received an email. Maybe I'll throw my email down again as I want a set and am willing to drive 2 hours to the USA\Canada boarder to pick up a set since they don't ship to Canada.
Planning on getting some tekton tools soon, particularly their Metric combo wrench set and metric impact socket set. I've been wanting to find a decent flare nut wrench set for awhile but the harbor freight set is junk, craftsman is unknown and most others are too expensive. I want a tight fitting wrench that won't open up with torque. Should I get the tekton set or sunnex or anything else?
theomnipresent1 ya I think you will be happy with the combo set and impact sockets. the flare nut wrenches are decent but you might want a better set. my gearwrench ones are really nice
theomnipresent1 well the set I have from gearwrench has a wider variety then my tekton set and made in Taiwan instead of China. but they are both decent sets
My Tekton set of metric wrenches must be made in China. Cause they suck! the plating is chipped to hell, have to wear gloves just to handle them. They are in my WTF box, only use them in case of a emergency, or when I use my Monster wrench extender. Thanks for another great video!!!
WEStTEXAs ya I know they do lol I had that set on my wish list for like a year but I ended up removing them just bc they were like 70 or 80 dollars and even though they are great, will I be using them often enough to justify spending that money. maybe later on down the road. bc I really do like those ones. Thank you!
Audio is better but really you shouldn't worry about the few people that complain about everything. You could test out different materials covering the mic on the camera, that could cut down the bit of the echo.
ri mar ya and I know your right. I just want my content to be as good as I can make it for all of you. and that is a good idea. I was thinking of getting one of those Mic wind covers and see if that helps. Thank you for watching
erik myers I would say they are roughly in the same field just bc harbor freight did do a decent job the there impact items. I just think the tekton ones are a little cleaner but I think both brands are great for impact grade extensions. Thank you for watching!!!
asm154 1 you know I haven't had the chance to take it to work yet but I think it would do fine at work just bc it's not like I would be using it a lot lol. but that is a really good question.
David Young thank you and ya I did see that. it is probably nice for some that can only spend a couple dollars every so often. so at least some people can slowly build there collection of tools. I think it's awesome. Thank you so much for watching!!
David Young I think Ernst makes some wrench racks that you can make into bigger wrench racks. It's all in how you set them up. Those racks will stay in your drawer though it's not a system where you can take the whole set out and carry it to your car very easily.
@@MikeSmith-px5sv my job I have now provides me with all of my tools needed so now they are just used at home but they did do great in the professional field and I have many others who use them at work and love them
Seems like Tekton is just importing tools from China and Taiwan and selling them online. Same thing Harbor Freight is doing accept HF has actual stores. Some tools like the ratchets even look like Pittsburgh Pro tools. Probably all the tool companies do this, but higher end tool companies like Snap-On seems to make more tools in USA. I just recently tuned-in to all the online hype about Tekton tools, but they just seem to be selling more of the same Chinese stuff.
This video is old and the ratchets your thinking about is the old design and tekton is actually one of the very few tool companies today that are bringing more jobs to the USA and they have reengineered and redesigned alot of tools and created an amazing line up. They have alot of tools made in Taiwan and the USA. And for an amazing price. A price not even snap on can compare to. When snap on tries buying your USA wrench sets to be sold on the truck you know you have done something very well. Tekton is probably one of the best and most reasonably priced tool company available 👍
its not chrome... its "NICKEL.." it will out last chrome by far.. im not sure if any tools now are chromed at all.. gear wrench might be thats why it looks so bad!!
A few years ago they were known as cheap tools but now adays they have stepped up passed many other tools companies by pulling back the old products redesigning and releasing better products and some products made in the USA. So to me they are doing great and going about it the right way.
