However not only will buying the physical copies of Tools albums support the band financially, buying and listening to the VINYLs is a better sonic experience in terms of quality. @Jake Adams Neil Was better. Technical ability doesn’t measure how good a drummer is. Neil was Ana absolute legend. Without Neil Danney might not even be a drummer. Same for me. Danney is an amazing drummer though definitely top 20.
To Lateralus: Keenan starts singing at 1:37. This equals exactly 1.618 Minutes. The Fibonacci Sequence, or as you call it, the golden spiral thing, increases its value by exactly 1.618 times. Keenans singing parts last 55 seconds, 55 can also be found in the fibonacci pattern. This proves that they not actually used the whole sequence as a base structure for the song, they must have figured out the EXACT speed for the song to be perfect the way it is. The drums switch rhythm every now and then to keep up with the fibonacci sequence pattern speed. 9/8 , 8/8, 7/8. 987. Can be found on the numbers aswell. 1,1,2,3,5,8,... 987 eventually think about THAT.

I've met Maynard James Keenan in my little town at whole foods. he signed two of his bottles of wine for me. he was surprisingly nice to me. I've had that wine for 8 years now and never opened it. I'm absolutely crazy about tool. they are my happy place. my zen.
Dee Caswell I met Danny Carey. He was walking around incognito at NAMM show (surrounded by thousands of people). I recognized him and approached him respectfully. He was awesome. Gave me a couple of minutes of his time, talked very openly and took a picture with his hand over my shoulder. Years later I went to see them in concert at a very large festival and saw him walking incognito again from into the crowd towards the stage. Awesome guy!
One thing I love about Tool is that when ever you first hear their music it's like 'meh that's cool' then by the 100th listen you're like 'Holy sweet Jesus just came in my ear and Maynard apparently stalks me and writes his songs specifically for me.'
Which I might add is the exact opposite of most pop music. Your first listen is like, 'oh that's catchy cool.' By the 100th you are ripping your own ears off to try and make it stop. I don't hate pop music but you know it's true.
I totally understand you. Iron Maiden was the precursor of Tool in that, every song on their albums was really good or great. The songs had meaning and they spoke to you. The lyrics are intellectual and not some pop fad. 411, Hallowed Be Thy Name was inspired by a movie. Most Maiden fans dont even know that.

Hehe thats a good way to put it, man. I began casually listening to Tool on and off about 9 years ago and TBH it didnt really do much for me, but somehow I KNEW there was some quality to be found. Then I guess around 7 years ago I started noticing that there was even more to it then what you initially think, and the cool thing is that somewhere after that I suddenly began appreciating music more in general and started obsessing with certain musical instruments (especially though all the countless Tool string/piano tributes on spotify, def gotta give that shit a shout out). Then about 3-ish years back you could say I was basically a big fan, and now, for about the latest 1-2 years Im really starting to feel like a severe Tool nerd cause some days are just surreal how much I listen to them. So yeah I can totally relate to that term "unhealthy" haha. When I first heard Tool, I was a typical noob and didnt know shit about music and today I constantly seek the most advanced, progressive, technical and artsy music possible. Still nothing has been able to reach the godlike levels of Tool. Tool awoke my ability to appreciate music and for that Im forever grateful. ...Wow sorry I ended up writing an essay, swear it started with only one line but apparently it just kept going..
sorry to be a curmudgeon, but the reason Maynard performs at the back of the stage has nothing to do with personal comfort. It is because he wants the music to take centre stage. early Tool gigs had him in the standard frontman position, but as a group they decided the music should be the main focal point.
troy mclean actually.....maynard says himself on the joe rogan experience that he stands in the back because he has epileptic episodes sometimes. So tool deff has to be from the back. Apc and puscifer he performs out front plenty. But thats where the music being center stage comes in. Because He than says its none of your business anyway why hes in the back and that you should be paying attention to the music.

I’ve seen tool many times, I saw Maynard out front with his real mohawk( I think it was Lollapolaaza), I saw him dance with the bell bottoms, bra, and Afro wig, he may start out in the back for the first song but he always comes out front. At least he did in the 90’s and early 2000’s
Tool...what can I say? They are gods. Maynard’s voice and lyrics, Danny’s polyrhythmic drumming, Adam’s masterful guitar playing and that signature Tool sound from Justin’s ripping bass. If ppl haven’t listened to them by now, they are wasting their life.
It is about heroin which 3/4 of the band has been addicted to. Adam still battles it everyday, Maynard and Danny kicked it in 2001 together. That's what the grudge is about. Justin never did any drugs, and Paul D'Amour just loved acid.
Best band ever as a 60 year old black male I started listening tool when they came out with the Sober video. Not only is there art for the album spectacular but their videos are so addictive
Bob Young Tool is about breaking out of the constraints of religion, norms & even time (which does not exist but like the others are imposed). If the numbers were chosen for that reason, and I'm sure they were, it's likely more a commentary on how the "devil" is used to control society. Tool's is the best mind expansion music that exists THUS FAR in my opinion. I will be forever grateful for their contribution to society & my life as well.

Alternative Metal; Yes it can be categorized as this thanks to their Sabbath influenced sound, while flirting with constant experimentation (Bands like Helmet, Faith No More, Soundgarden, Rollins Band do this) You cant deny that
The genius behind bands like Tool, is that everything is very deliberate and extremely well thought out. A few bands that i have personally discovered that can do this as well are Pink Floyd and Type O Negative and Fear Factory. All four bands are sonically, and lyrically brilliant! With multiple layers woven together.
I was super bummed to see they are not on Spotify. I don’t randomly consume their music, when I play it I plan for the day. I need to be alone, have it on certain speakers and listen to at a certain decible. It’s always so transformative.

I write and have always kinda stuck with the way I think words should sound. For the most part I go w correct pronunciation but every now N then like 2 make up things as I go along. I cant honestly find words to justify what Tool means to me and so many. It is beyond music and beyond art. I lost my father to suicide and this band greatly helped me overcome and grow from that experience. Nothing but mad respect for James Adam Danny and Justin. Saw them live in May of 2017 and was up front and it was everything I had hoped and more.

I first heard of Tool on MTV in 1993. Sober came on as I was getting ready for school...stopped cold listened and watched, bought Undertow that day after school and have been hooked ever since. Fuck Maynard, evil amazing genius that he is.
To me, Tool always felt like a band I was never smart enough to truly understand. Sure I love a lot of their songs, but when ever I meet a true Tool fan they talk about the band and their music as if it carries with it this cosmic weight. There was a girl I went to school with who always wore a Tool shirt. She was absolutely stunning and intelligent and just seemed like she had it all figured out and I joked to myself that it was because the band unlocked this part in her brain that I had yet to unlock myself. I’m 34 and It’s still not “unlocked” but I love the band all the same. Someday maybe I’ll figure it out.

Really? You didn't mention the song on 10,000 days you get from mixing three songs together. 10,000days is 11:13 long. Viginiti Tres is 5:02 and Wings for Marie is 6:11. The lengths of the two shorter songs equals the longer one. If you play them both over 10000 days (play VT before WFM) it makes a new song. The weird noises of VT match up with the melodies of 10,000days and the lyrics at the end of WFM alternate with the lyrics of 10,000days making a new song. Like the holy gift no one knows how inentional this is, but it sounds cool.
Hi there, Tool nerd here... I've thought about getting into Dream Theater for quite some time now but just havent for some reason... Would you say their appeal is somewhat similar to that of Tool's? Not so much in style as in "approach" to the music, if that makes sense. For instance, it took me fuckin FOREVER before I truly started appreciating Tool...
Just Plain Roastbeef I listened to Tool for years but couldn't get into Dream Theater until I heard Metropolis: Scenes. Features time signature changes like Tool and the guitarist is really good and technical. Highly recommend that album. I've listened to others but they don't compare to Metropolis. Check it out

Growing up in middle class.. going to school I always remembered that the "goth" folks were the ones in tool attire and few others.. I was very judgmental for this reason only for the fact I didn't understand why people/kids would go "against the grain" it looked like they were reaching out for attention in my opinion, so therefor it was off putting to me.. I'm glad one day a friend had a disc and through it in my CD player after we smoked some weed on a out of city dirt road.. will never forget listening to Aenima the first time.. Long story short.. If you had pre conceived bias towards this band like I did and still have not experienced it yourself (headphones preferred) then you are missing out on one of the greatest bands in today's existence!! Tool Fekking Rocks!!

Spiritual Mentally stimulating, Makes you think, Makes you dig with in yourself. shows you the beauty in the Dirt beneath your finger nails, and gives you the motivation to pick it out and create something NEW!! Toward the end of the albums I hit a deep state of peace. Some times Ecstasy.

Dude, I agree with you 100%. Tool was, is, and forever will be, my all time go to band as being the best in so many ways. Thank you for the video. I found it interesting that at the end you mentioned the O'Keefe Foundation. As random as that reference my seem to some people watching this video, I can tell you first hand that the performance by these young people is moving, to say the least. I came across them and the song 46&2 about 4 years ago and it just blew my mind. As for Explaining who Tool is and what their sound is, I think you did a great job. Not an easy task. I found myself explaining Tool's sound to my older brother and came up with, "kinda like a modern day Pink Floyd." But really, I believe you nailed it.

Vinyl Eyezz I have binge watched all of your videos over the last week and i just love your channel and it has got me completely fascinated in Vinyls and I am getting a Record Player this Christmas and I can assure u it won't be a Crosley ;)
I've just been really intrigued with all the old technology since i turn 17 this Friday I was late to experiencing the older was of listening to music and all the different things from the cover art, the different colored vinyls, to the different types and I love the feeling of collecting stuff so its just so fun! Bit of friendly advice if you're new to record collecting. The plural for "vinyl" is "vinyl". Some less helpful collectors will give you grief if you say "vinyls". Also if you haven't chosen a turntable yet, take a look at the Audio Technica LP120. It's the one Vinyl Eyezz owns and I also bought one recently too. It's a really good deck for the price. He's also done a good set up video to get you started.
I tend to rejoice when I find others who share the same "enthusiasm" for Tool. So it is with respect I say that pronouncing Ænema as "A" - Enema does a great disservice to the rest of your video.
Opiate is from 1992. It's their EP before Undertow. How could you get that wrong? I literally just Googled it to see if it shows and it does. It's so easy in this day and age to get information yet people don't use their tools (no pun intended) at hand.

he doesn’t hide in the back because he can be better, he does it because he want to show how great everyone else is. If you look at the first few concerts you can see him at the front of the stage and he was just as good.
One other reason he stands besides the drums instead of in front of them is because he has said the percussion bleeds into his mics and he gets a cleaner sound off to the side. I don’t think he’s as shy as some like to make him out to be. Dudes f*cking fearless. And wildly successful.
