hi brendan video was great, i bet your very well chuffed with your new custodianship of the myford. nice repair and mod, if i were you i would be on the lookout for a quick change gearbox, next time you can perhaps cut your own thread and save a little more, that boiler looked impresive on the bench!! see you next time Kev

Nice job Brendan but copper slip is a Bad idea on a lead screw. It's good at preventing corrosion on bolts but a very poor lubricant and will wear out the lead screw. A good bearing grease will keep things running smoothly a lot longer. Looking forward to more content from you.

I've noticed some weirdness with DRO nonlinearity versus the scale reading on the cross-slide of my Colchester. Little light-bulb moment watching your video when I realised that it could be wear in that part of the leadscrew. The DRO still tells the truth, but I can't trust the manual dials. Thanks for the inspiration, I'll take a look and se what sort of state that leadscrew is in. I failed miserably to get my #toolfest2021 video done in time, so perhaps it can count as 361 days early for 2022!

I'm probably being a bit of a prude but i can't help but notice that you're assembling bearings in dirty conditions with no grease. Otherwise, I appreciate the video. I'm about to do about the same procedure for a chinese 9x20, which has triangular threads and plain steel-on-steel bearings. Cheers!

How can Brexit affect shipping, from the US to the UK? The US isn't (and never has been) in the EU.
@madguernseyboy
@madguernseyboy 2 года назад
Good question!!! I don’t know it was a unfair assumption. I just know they used to post and now they don’t. “Thank you for considering McMaster-Carr for your purchase. However, we will not accept orders from your facility due to the cost of complying with US export regulations.”

It is because the crown has mandated that customs duties be collected by the seller wherever in the world they may be. Most sellers balk at that. Here in the USA, it is bad enough having to collect sales taxes where there are about 43 states that have a sales tax (kind of like your VAT) but the rules and rates vary by the exact location an order is sent to. Collect for the King now? No way.
@markrainford1219

Shipping costs from US via fleabay are extortionate. If I could filter out US listings altogether I would. You did really well there. Bit odd your leadscrew wearing out before your nut isn't it? unless it's already had nuts replaced of course.
@madguernseyboy
@madguernseyboy 2 года назад
Yes I bought a new nut first thinking it was the softer metal. But perhaps the previous owner had already done that. Who knows.
@simpleman283
@simpleman283 2 года назад
I had to check the comments before I said that myself. Could be that someone made a steel nut at some point in time because of excessive backlash.
