Toolkit for a Survival/Bug-Out Backpack, Prototype 1

This prototype kit is a "re-kit": a re-designing of an existing, prefabricated repair/tool kit for my own specific needs, which I bought from Amazon, but they are sold by many vendors for around $11 to $16. This main kit is a mini tool kit, mostly for the repair of electronics meant for my survival/"bug out" backpack I am loading up. Note: this kit is not a stand alone survival kit, just a tool kit which can be a subset of a larger kit.
These pre-fab precision screw bit kits may look the same but they actually differ slightly in their supplied bits, tools, and of course color. The Yellow kit in the video is made by Krebs and for a black kit consider a "NECAMOCU Precision Screwdriver Set, Professional Grade 115 in 1 Magnetic Repair Tool Kit for Electronics". Amazon seems to have different ones, from numerous makers, at a good price, changing every week!
Scalpels, razor blades, and knives are NOT FOR CHILDREN so don't leave them out within reach of kids.
If you liked my video please leave a link to it with your friends on your forums, social media, etc.. My channel is NOT monetized and my only reward is seeing my viewership grow by word of mouth. Thanks for helping me out! Stay safe. - M.Z.

I never cease to be amazed by just how much you can fit into a small kit. I love your ideas and I have mimicked many of them in the past. I just find it amazing what you can do with so much in such a tiny amount of space. Please keep these coming!

TIP: Don't forget to register at olightstore to get their FREE gift I mentioned in the video, usually an i3E flashlight, during their next sale! [Well, usually they require $5 for the shipping charge if you're not buying anything else. Colors vary and I make no promises they'll keep doing this nice promo every sale.] I have no affiliation with them, by the way.

It might not be a "survival kit", but swap out some of the junk drawer stuff for a space blanket, a real signal mirror, a swirl-pack container, a bic mini, and swap out the Sanremu knife with one in a previous video with the saw included, and man....NOT a criticism just an observation friend. Thank you. You're always a teacher and an inspiration.

Very well done mate 👍 Enjoyed that 👍 Good to see you back in action 😀 If you get a paracord loop (knotted. About the same length as the hacksaw blade) and fit it to the hacksaw blade (cutting on the pull), it works as a Very Effective handle. Also use a hacksaw blade with 'fine' teeth, much easier to cut and control when it's so short. I've been using this method in model making since 1971. You can also turn the point into an xacto modelling knife (your point is upside down for that). Cheers mate, all the best to you and yours 👍 🍻🍻🍻

It’s really well thought out and amazing it can all fit in these cases from those tool kits. I have seen some really nice cases for fishing kits that often even have a silicone seal around them in the fishing isles in Walmart and places like that, sporting goods stores etc. But of course they are pricey.
@MeZillch
@MeZillch 10 месяцев назад
Thanks. Watch out though, I've tested some of those silicone ring sealed kits and they are not all 100% bullet-proof water protection from submersion, so I thought I'd mention it. One such kit, marketed as a survival tin by BCB (?), has rivets on the clamp/clasp which leak, for example.

Not sure if you've seen them before, but I would LOVE to see what you could come up with using the Infinity Tool from Modl Outdoors. It's a band of some type of rubber that you can use for lots of things, and you can even wear the smaller version on the wrist. I've seen people make phone holders for photography with an Infinity Tool and a stick, or replace broken straps on a flip flop, use as a hair tie, an emergency belt, etc. They come in 8" and 16" lengths. I keep them with me all the time, and they're great. You should check them out, they even have a 2.0 version coming out now with things like hooks to make it more useful.

@MeZillch
@MeZillch 9 месяцев назад
Thanks. Yes, some of my earlier videos discuss the same concept, that survival kits are only good if you actually have them on you, even when you least expect needing them, and since you already carry these things every day they should the basis of the overall design: wallet, watch/bracelet, and keys. For wallet designs you might like this video about the "flat pack" . ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CPRHTOiDUX0.html

Looks like a handy kit to have, I would add a few security Torx bits. These bits are good for taking apart my cable box so I can blow the dust out of it. RU-vid won't let me zoom in on your bits so I can't see them all clearly.
@MeZillch
@MeZillch 10 месяцев назад
There are Torx security bits: T6H, T7H, T8H, T9H, T10H, T15H, and T20H in the KREBS yellow kit (I just checked). Bits differ by brand though. One of my black kits also includes T25H, but the other black kit has no security bits at all.

The day you will discover what could be done with 3d printing, your mind will be blown. ;)
@MeZillch
@MeZillch 10 месяцев назад
I'm tempted, but from my perspective that's sort of "cheating". The goal with my projects/videos is usually not pointing out "Look at what you can own", but rather "Look at what you can construct, re-purpose, and re-cycle for little or no money". Furthermore part of me optimistically hopes there's some poor, disadvantaged teenager somewhere in the world watching my videos who will be inspired to make these things. Other than the rare use of a $29 electric drill (usually used only to make an optional keychain attachment point), everything else in my videos is made with simple, affordable, non-electric hand tools only, which even teenagers in third-world countries can hopefully get their hands on.

Thanks for the video. Your kit is has a very interesting design / setup. I guess I'm wondering what percentage of the bits you will actually use? Could the space the bits take up be reduced and used in other ways? Thanks again.
@MeZillch
@MeZillch 10 месяцев назад
Space could be reallocated but if the bits you like don't happen to be clustered together the problem would be the labeling on the plastic would have to be ignored and you would move all the bits you like all to, say, the top. I think the concept to all these bits, even though I typically only use maybe 10% of them, is to be prepared for some new situation down the road, in the field, you aren't accustomed to.

Great toolkit, you are an inspiration. If you use a AAA battery powered flashlight, the only battery to use is the energizer ultimate lithium. Never leaks and battery stays charged up to 20 years. Great for kits that are tucked away and not used often. P.s. where do you find the super glue at? I have been using the harbor freight super glue, but it is larger and sometimes does not fit.

you don't need security bits for a screwdriver in a survival/bug out situation 🤣this is more like a small electronics repairsman's kit. Where is your 1st and second lighter, your ferro rod or magnesium block? Where is a tarp, a small shovel, a water filter? Your cordage, fish line, and hooks? Also snare wire. None of these trinkets will help you 'survive.' This is an EDC kit not a bug out kit
@MeZillch
@MeZillch 10 месяцев назад
You must have missed my point 4:59 that this is a prototype of a multi-purpose repair/tool kit I happen to personally store in my survival/bug-out backpack, but it itself is NOT a survival kit, so holding survival kit items like a tarp or a water filter is silly. Those are items which one might carry in the main survival kit, but not a tool box.
