A personal one is always be prepared to spend a night somewhere, I once got delayed in Atlanta, and spent 18 hours there before driving 9 hours to Miami.
Always use your shoes for storage. Either put your socks in them or something. Also put your shoes in some type of bag. Did they take up a lot of space and you can store quite a bit inside of them
i always pack electronics and sandals at the top of my bag to make security a breeze, and while it isn’t a hack i don’t ever buy duty free stuff because 99% of the time it ultimately costs just as much if not more than buying it when i get home.
I guarantee you guys thought poorly of gays until you found out Swayne was gay. You must follow your leader in your minds, whatever Swayne loves or hates, you love and hate as well.
If you're constantly staying in hotel rooms, take a picture of your door number when you get to your room. That way you have the number easily accessible and don't have to do something unsafe like writing it on the key/paper key sleeve. Same tip works for coat&bag checks, take a picture of the tag in case it falls out of your pocket.
I travel on a ton of business trips with my husband and not only has taking a photo of the room number saved our bacon a few times but also getting one extra room key. That room key goes in my pocket when I am IN the hotel. I have a bad habit of forgetting the key in the room when doing laundry or going down for breakfast. The key in my pocket has saved me a few times.
My favorite travel tip... Packing cubes. I have had my travel transformed thanks to packing cubes. I can leave them in my bag like you do and pull out the one I need or unpack into drawers but just unzip and open the cube in the drawer. As my trips move along, I have clean and dirty cubes and the dirty ones stay packed. Mind you that I used to travel for a few weeks at a time with multiple destinations.
I'm old pilot almost getting retired (10 years more) , when I see your videos make me remember my self. Always very organized and sharp ! I did like the tennis shoes . Keep the good videos and take care of aviation and personal life 😍
Swayne just had to throw a five minute break in my morning, can’t not watch one of these videos! Hopefully I’ll still remember these in a few years when I need them 😂
Can’t wait to watch this Swayne, gonna start my PPL soon, you’re an inspiration for me and my RU-vid channel, I was at 100 subs last time I commented on one of your vids now nearly at 2k! Thanks
Oh my gosh...the iron test is genius. Never thought of that and have been burned by grimy iron on dress shirt a few times. Not a pilot but a traveling businessman. Thanks!
"I gave up on using hotel shampoos a long time ago". You're always polished look makes me want to call you a liar for claiming to have ever used hotel shampoo 😂
Hi Swayne, at 04:12...you forgot to mention your power strip. I always pack an extension cord or power strip whenever I travel because oftentimes the outlets near the nightstand are taken by the lamps so there isn't an available outlet for my mobile phone and/or laptop chargers. For people who sail on cruises, the cabins have limited outlets (only two outlets) so an extension cord is useful for charging your phones, laptops and digital alarm clocks.
Having worked in a hotel and seen what goes on, I wouldn't eat/drink anything from an ice-bucket, including ice. Having worked in a hotel and seen what goes on, I wouldn't stay in a hotel either, unless I had no choice LOL.
I use the checklist before every trip, especially for my kids because they always forget something. 😆 I really enjoy your videos - it’s cool seeing pilot life behind the scenes!
I love to fly in my all birds, super comfy and you don't even need socks! On a side note you look so much more grown up now compared to when you started flying for mokulele and even in your PPL videos. Lastly, Sam's studio lighting is on point.
Long time subscriber. Love your stuff man. Living the CFI life now at about 400 hours. Can’t wait to hit the airlines when things get back to normal in a few years. Great content as always man.
You and Sam make a great couple! I had no idea until this video. I subscribed to both of you before I knew the connection. How cool! You two are seriously some of the best RU-vidrs I have ever watched and are making a huge influence on my life. You two should appear in the same video some time!
awesome channel and video. I had to share it with my son. He is working on becoming a commercial pilot and has one more year of college to finish his degree. I am excited for him to see so many opportunities available out there. He gets discouraged sometimes because this career plan gets quite expensive. I keep telling him that he will soon enjoy all the hard work he has put into becoming a pilot.
Travel challenge: pack for a two week trip in Europe with only a backpack and a carry on sized bag. thatll teach you how to pack! sure as hell taught me what is really necessary
Always carry two powerbanks each having a capacity to charge your smartphone at least twice. I'm not (yet 🙏) a pilot but I travel a lot, and I lost count how many times it saved my life. First contact with your channel, looks good. Good man, subscribed! 🛫
The packing checklist is gold. The key though, is to actually use it. Like an actual SAY AND DO checklist. Because after you’ve used one for a while it can be tempting to get overconfident in your memory of the packing routine and not reference the checklist. And then you still end up leaving home without your iPad charger or some equally critical item.
Airline pilot here. In the wintertime or transiting cold climates I throw in a pair of black silk underwear. Same stuff you use for skiing in wintertime. They don’t make you hot, but keeps the chill down for those cold vans and walk arounds. You are right, unless you are continuously flying in super cold climates, the thick jacket is a waste of space.
I've watched your videos a long time. You never cease to amaze me. I wish I had half of your drive and organization when I was your age. Now it's time to find a packing checklist...Thanks,
Been watching your videos for years now. This has to be my absolute favorite! Great quality and just love hearing about life as a pilot. Big dream of mine. Can’t wait for the next.
Great video! I’m almost wrapped up with my commercial program and will be time building. Some of this would help with just being a CFI and II. It’d be great to also pass down to students as well, especially the personalized checklist!
I'm glad i'm not the only one having problems with light coming through a crack in window curtains! Staying overnight at different hotels, cities and time zones I've encountered common problems with hotel rooms staying dark during rest hours. I've always bring an electrical tape to stick the side of the curtains on to the wall to reduce lights from coming through, and usually a small furniture to hold the middle curtains together. But I've never thought of using hangar pant clips to hold them together, so that's a good tip! I'll be trying that on my next overnight.
American is the Mainline airline, Which operates larger planes such as the 737 and 777, Envoy air is also american eagle, The airline is Envoy, but the name is American Eagle, So in short Envoy operates the embraced and bombardier aircraft while american airlines operates boeing and airbus and maybe the e190 😁😁
Hey Swayne! Absolutely love the content and it's been very helpful to me as I'm currently enrolled to start my flight training this coming spring at a flight university (which happens to be the same one you attended!) and I absolutely cant wait to get started on my passion. The information that you provide to help guide students like myself along that path is extremely useful and very inspiring, better than anyone could ask for! I have a question for you, I recently watched the podcast you did with MentourPilot (aswell as your video about rod and haley), and one point that really struck me and has stuck with me since I watched was your explanation of the interpersonal connections and network that you developed within the industry. That seems to be one of the largest factors that sets you apart from the average pilot climbing the student-regional-mainline ladder. I was wondering if you had any specific advice for networking or how to go about it, as in, what types of activies, events, or just general actions ended up leading you to so many meaningful relationships with people in the industry as well as so many friendships like yours with Rod and Haley? Thanks for the content :D
You forgot to mention Take home the Toilet rolls, shampoo's, soaps, TV, Microwave, Curtains. Saved me $$$$ and don't tell me you haven't he he. Roger Victor does it too. good video!
I'm not sure how to feel about this "given up on hotel shampoo" thing. That's all that most of us use! 😂 I'm going to get one of those coats though, that looks nice!
Wow. What a fantastic video. Your editing and content has gotten so incredibly great over the years. Loved this video. So helpful. Not a pilot yet... but I certainly am an aspiring one!
Hey Swayne, been a Subscriber for about a year and I find all of your videos very helpful for us aspiring pilots(btw starting training in 2 weeks at ATP). Keep up the great work and we'll be expecting your next video. Thanks!
I always brought my second pair of walking shoes in a plastic bag. So your clothes don’t get dirty. Also bring a smaller bag for dirty clothes only. Bring a battery bank to charge your phone because most airports haven’t figured out to put outlets on every seat
