I don’t know if this runs contrary to Beyoncé purists, but Renaissance is my favourite album by her precisely because it dodges the larger narratives. It’s an escapist album that posts funk, Afro-beats,disco, house and r&b and is just so fun to listen to. Its definitely a lot more replayable than Lemonade.

I have to say, I might be the only one who did not like the Beyonce record...AT ALL...now I did love her last two but this thing I just did not like...I started out hating it actually, but after I saw this thing on the top of and many other lists, I gave it another whirl, and I went from hating it to just not liking it...there was some effort to make the bottom but that's it...also, I'm not really into hip-hop, so none of those records made my lists or collection...I never got into Spoon for one reason alone, I prefer Canadian band SpoonS (plural) & I can't side with a band that practically stole their name, sorry...Alvvays is great though...and so are the Beths, my listens in 22 were mostly alt-country/Americana and my top 5 are Bjork "Fossora" (#5), Tears For Fears "The Tipping Point" (#4), Taylor Swift "Midnights/3AM" (#3), Nikki Lane "Denim & Diamonds" (#2) & my #1 is the latest by a woman from Boston you've never heard & the greatest, Sarah Borges "Together Alone", top songwriter with badass swagger & hooks galore, with touches of vulnerability...a hybrid of powerpop, garage punk & a touch of alt-country...you take one listen to Sarah Borges, she becomes an instant fave, and "Together Alone" stuck with me all of 2022...recorded during the pandemic, everyone sending files & MP3's in the mail & producer Eric Roscoe Ambel put this thing together in such a way that it sounds like a kickass rocking band playing amazing songs live in the same room...and Sarah giving her all vocally... incredible record, best of 2022 easily...Beyonce has nothing on Sarah, sorry...

@@oh718 I love Twigs and MAGDALENE was one of the very best of 2019. Crappysongs was soooo disappointing as a follow-up and is full of boring, generic songs with corny and cliché ass lyrics, not to mention the horrendous sketches at the beginning where her and her obnoxious ass British friends are chortling on about millennial nonsense, which even almost ruins some of the best songs, like meta angel. Sure some of the instrumentals are cool but it’s such a boring and dull project for her. And those endless interludes…just why
@oh718
@oh718 Год назад
@@f4gsforpele y’know I will say, it didn’t click with me at first either and I had a lot of these same thoughts as well (especially with all the talking with her friends). But I gotta disagree with the lyrics and how well these pop songs are actually structured. She’s letting loose and having fun on this album which is such a needed release from MAG. Once the feeling of what she’s singing about actually clicks, the lil dialogue moments from her friends telling her to keep her head up and be more confident is actually pretty touching and adds to what she’s trying to convey. Is it more basic? Absolutely, but these songs, if given the proper time, also absolutely slap in their own respective way. Like listen to Lightbeamers and Jealousy again and tell me with a straight face you aren’t hella shakin’ yo ass and just feeling GOOD. Lmao.
@worldsbiggestholdthegirlfan
I lot of people were disappointed by Rina Sawayama’s second album, but it’s genuinely my favorite of the year. She’s always mentioned that she wished people appreciated her song writing and Hold the Girl delivered. Is it Sawayama? No. Is it still perfectly great on its own? Absolutely. Maybe I’m swayed because I saw her live and got a chance to meet her, but oh man it is an excellent album and I don’t care what people have to say because I enjoy it and wasn’t looking for SAWAYAMA part 2

People complaining about some of the lyrics in Motomami being dumb like, that's the best parte, it's reggaeton, it mostly isn't meant to be taken seriously. The lyrics are there just to give some kind of vibe and rhythm, not to be an award winning poem. And also, there are songs with great lyrics in there too. So much good music this year, and there's still stuff that I've yet to catch up on! So far my list would look smth like this : 10. Denzel Curry - Melt My Eyez, See Your Future - Yeah, it hits as much as everyone says it does. Fav tracks : Walkin, John Wayne, X-Wing 9. Natalia Lafourcade - De Todas Las Flores It's beautifully produced, and beautifully written. "Mi manera de querer" is one of my absolute favourite songs of the year. Fav tracks : De todas las flores, Pajarito colibrí, Mi manera de querer 8. Arctic Monkeys - The Car As someone who's been saying that Arctic Monkeys should make James Bond theme for a while now, I guess I've been served. And I liked it. Fav tracks : There'd Better Be a Mirrorball, Sculptures of Anything Goes, Big Ideas 7. Kendrick Lamar - Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers Blah blah blah Kendrick the GOAT, anything he puts out is some degree of genius, blah blah blah Fav tracks : United in Grief, N95, Mother I Sober 6. Little Simz - NO THANK YOU More like "YES PLEASE" amirite? Fav tracks : Gorilla, Silhouette, X 5. Spoon - Lucifer On The Sofa This will probably grow into one of my all-time favourites, but as it stands, I've had a few of these songs on repeat ever since I've heard them. Fav tracks : The Hardest Cut, The Devil & Mister Jones, Astral Jacket 4. Björk - Fossora I've been waiting for a Björk album to click with me as immediately as "Vespertine" or "Medúlla" did, and this is the one. Fav tracks : Atopos, Ancestress, Trölla-Gabba 3. King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard - Omnium Gatherum The artistic culmination of what feels like decades of work and experimentation. Their other albums this year are all great, but this one, to me, holds the most meaning at this point in the band's career. Also "Presumptuous", oh my god, what an absolute JAM. Fav tracks : The Dripping Tap, Kepler 22-b, Presumptuous 2. Black Country, New Road - Ants From Up There This one didn't click with me right away, but I found myself returning to it suspiciously often. At one point I cried to "Snow Globes", and then I was forced to admit that I absolutely love this album. Fav tracks : Chaos Space Marine, Snow Globes, Basketball Shoes 1. A.A. Williams - As The Moon Rests I knew that I was going to enjoy it, but HOLY SHIT. I've been listening to it an unhealthy amount since it came out, but I still can't find words to put on how perfect this album is to me. Fav tracks : Hollow Heart, Murmurs, Pristine If you've made it to the end, congratulations! You win my admiration and gratitude. Hope you have a good day :)

My favourite release this year was Tocotronic's "Nie wieder Krieg" (no more war). It was released at the end of January so they couldn't know what happened some weeks later. Not their magnum opus, but a great collection of songs about growing/getting older and self reflection about one's inner demons. Because of...everything happening this year + family + mental health couldn't listen to many new acts but plan to hopefully change that next year. Much thanks for producing all these engaging videos this year, even if there were hardships. Wishing everyone some good holidays and a happy new year.

Of the ones I _have_ heard that weren't mentioned, one of my favorites is Empath's album _Visitor,_ a beautiful, hooky, and concise record with some of my favorite songs and textures of the year. Mic, I am gonna recommend Kavinsky's album Reborn. Outside of the synthwave fanbase, it's gotten almost no buzz, but it is one of the best of the year. My husband, a synthwave enthusiast, had me listen to it and it's in my top 5 of 2022. Synthwave is generally a genre that sounds all the same to me - if you've heard one song, you've heard them all - except Reborn feels so fresh and unique while being a throwback. Give it a chance. And In the Darkness, Hearts Aglow is my no. 1 album of this year. I listened to it on a whim having only heard of Weyes Blood from her collab with the Killers on Imploding the Mirage, and I just fell in love the album and her music as a whole.
