Guts whole life is a tragic story

Where the hell is Kakashi hatake in this one?! He lost his father who died of suicide, he lost his bestfriend who gave him his eye, he killed his lover, he lost his sensei and also almost lost his student. Not only that, his bestfriend was one of the villians in NS, he also started the war. Wanna know why? Because Kakashi killed the girl that his bestfriend loved, because Kakashi couldn't protect her. Give me a reason why he isn't in this?

I like how everyones like "wheres Erza" or "wheres Ciel Phantomhive" or "wheres anyone from Tokyo Ghoul" and I'm just here like "where tf is Edward Elric???"

Anime backstories be like: My parents died before I was born. The doctors had to pull me out of my mother's corpse to give birth to me. They then did experiments on 1-year-old me before abandoning me on a demon village. I lived and found friends before humans attacked the village and I cried cuz they died and now I'm the cold blooded main antagonist cuz the protagonist's father had something to do with my parents' death.

My personal three. Levi Ackerman: Mom died, dad missing, raised by murderer uncle, then his only two friends died horrible deaths. Crona: Mom was abusive and used him as an experiment for her black blood, and kind of taught him to isolate himself, be violent, and emotionally weak. Juuzou Suzuya: Was kidnapped by a ghoul to be a scrapper, was tortured(Including getting his balls hammered off the look more girl-like), and forced to kill people, leaving him emotionally damaged. Later, his only friend and adult figure in his life was killed.

I think Levi has a more tragic backstory than Mikasa. Sure she was kidnaped but Levi grew up on the streets, was raised by a maniac, watch his two friends die in front of him, and then had to watch MORE of his friends die later on. If thats not tragic, i don't know what is.

Gaara's backstory is preety sad buuut i think having your whole family/clan killed by your brother then hunting down your brother and eventually kill him and after his death find out he only did what he was ordered to do to protect you is a bit worse...just a tad worse.

For Elfen lied, you also forgot the part where she met a friend and police caught her with her and the girl pushed Lucy and got shot afterwards. She was very sad about that and also agreed to go with the scientist so they can save the little girl who got shot.

Why is Ceil Phantomhive from Black Butler not on this list!!! His parents died in a fire, he was kidnaped and tortured, and he even died but sold his soul to the demon named Sebastian so he would be protected but he will also die at 12!!! That is super sad...

Like if you thought Ciel phantomhive should have been on this list. In case your wondering, and don't know who Ciel is, I'll explain his backstory. Ciel was really happy with a good life when he was a young child, like six or seven, when someone burned down his house and both his parents burned in the fire. Then, after an asma attack, was captured by a cult who tortured him mentally and physically for a while, even kept him in a cage, until he sold his soul to a demon so he could be saved. For the rest of his life, he never smiled or laughed, and devoted his entire life to finding and destroying the cult that captured him. He killed every single person that was envolved with the murder of his parents and shows no mercy. Oh he also watched his fiancé turn into A mindless doll and his aunt was murdered with a chainsaw, in front of him. Might I remind you, through out the show, he's only thirteen years old. Even if you haven't seen the show, like if you find the backstory tragic. Other kuroshisuji, or black butler fans, back me up and confirm this is his backstory

I can't believe that Erza isn't on this list. Her life was very tragic.

Erza, Jellal and the others have the saddest backstory. They were taken from their homes and their parents were killed. Then they were taken to build a huge tower to resurrect an evil man called Zeref. They were tortured and harmed during this. Then Jellal was taken away and was manipulated by the evil people and sided with them. Erza and her friends managed to overcome the evil people and Erza managed to flee but her friends didn't make it. Then years on, her old friends track her down and go back to the tower to sacrifice her and Jellal was the leader of this. Erza and Natsu managed to defeat them. A few arcs on Jellal realises that he was being manipulated and is mortified by the things he had done. But Erza overlooks these things and grows to love him (JERZA!!) Like if you agree.

you failed to mention that Gaara killed his uncle because he was trying to kill Gaara. Gaara did not know it was his uncle until he was already dying. way to skim that over mojo

People need to talk about Gintoki more. His backstory wasn't revealed until episode 300+ but we still love him anyway and when we know his tragic backstory, the reason he did anything before episode 300 become so much clear. This is one of the uniqueness of Gintoki, while most of the characters use their backstory as a foundation for their character in the beginning of the show so the viewers will like them more. We didn't have that with Gintoki, we have bits of it but we never know the real story until that one moment, but we still grow to love him. So when the tragic backstory is revealed, there were so many emotions. Also it's not only Gintoki's backstory, there's also Takasugi's backstory in that moment so it doubles the pain. *spoilers* I'm bored and I miss Gintama, so I'm going to write Gin-san's past. Being a Corpse Eating Demon when he's still a little kid, holding a sword taller than his body, living by himself surrounded by wars until his sensei found him. He teaches him how to use a human sword, the way to live, and more. Until one day, his sensei is taken away from him, making him promise to "Please take care of your friends" while his friend made him promise to "Please take care of sensei". He fought and fought for both of them until both were caught and he got the choice to either kill one of them or die all together. He was given two choices, to save his sensei or to save his friends. He wanted to save both, but saving both is the same as throwing both away. Then he cut his own sensei, father-figure, by himself. Wondering around aimlessly, he found a little girl and decided to use his life in exchange of her life. But the girl made him do another promise, "Please don't die before I become the best executioner, so I could cut your head for you". And so he has to live again. Wondering again, he arrived at the graveyard, hungry. Then an old lady, visiting her husband's grave found him. He's so hungry, he ate the offering the old lady gave to her husband. But this time he's the one who made the promise, "Your wife isn't going to live for long, so until that time, I'm going to protect her." Again, although he finally found a place to live. He's still wondering around aimlessly. He doesn't have anything to do, so he decided to do anything and open an Odd Jobs. One by one people came to him and by the time he noticed, he found another burden on his back, he found another family, another reason to live. So after watching Gintama until the end, I finally realize that Gintama storyline is about a war veteran who lost his will to live, slowly finding more and more reason to live.

This is why is read mangas and usually don't watch the anime. Guts (Berserk) was never raped by Gambino, nor was he his captor, but his adoptive father. The only rape he experienced was by Donovan, Gambino's merc band, who bought him for the night. Also, no mention of Shiro / Wretched Egg from Deadman Wonderland?

I already knew Lucy and Guts were going to be on this list. I also believe Alucard (even though his past was shown for only a brief couple of mins) and some characters from Higurashi should be on here too.If we really want to dig even deeper than Midori from shojo Tsubaki life is more tragic than any other character possibly on this list.May not be an anime series but its an anime movie from the 80s.I mean within the first few mins in, Midori comes back home (most likely they were poor) to her sick mother but to only find out she was dead and rats were eating her from the inside of her vagina.It doesn't get any better within the movie either when she finds herself with no where to go but to live with a buch of carnies.
