This will either age like fine wine or milk...depending on what we get in the next main set "Blazing Vortex". Day 497 of waiting for Good Pyro Support to arrive
I was actually talking to a friend about Gate Guardian a few days ago. How they could do a retrain of it being an XYZ monster and worked more like the one in the anime
This sounds pretty cool. Must be XYZ summoned using Suijin, Kazejin, and Sanga of the Thunder. Each time this card would be destroyed by battle or card effect, remove on XYZ material from this card.
Matthew Fera That is an awful summon condition lol. Requiring 3 level 7 normal monsters with specific names is the best way to make sure that a card will never hit the field.
I mean, realistically they shouldn't even be on this list. I gets its a meme (an annoying one at that) but really there are more archetypes in this game that are more useless/get less support than Volcanics. You know until last year it took over a decade for Cloudians to get one card? Just one. Remember Guardians? That archetype with like one okay monster and a banned spell thats only there for loops? What else have they gotten/what can they even do in todays metagame, let alone 10 years ago's metagame. Volcanics dont need it as bad really...
@@HucksterYT I think that this list is mostly for decks with decent gimicks, or which could be built into a good deck with some better support? I dont know for sure though thats just my interpretation.
@@anemodude9544 yes,the searcher of Guardians searches any monster/spell and trap card that named "Guardian" so if any card that has Guardian in their first name, they're in Guardian archetype. Same as roid archetype
@@13thKingMu Roids and speedroids could have had so much potential going into fusions that require synchros or synchros that require fusions. Meaning that they could've been really strong by chance. Like Dimension Dragons having Synchro/Pendulum, Fusion/Pendulum or XYZ/Pendulums.
I could see master monk get a harpy lady style treatment where they get a bunch of cards that are considered monk fighter on the field if they get any support at all.
I just want Horus to shine. Considering the stuff people can do nowadays, is being able negate as many spells as you want for free really that overpowered?
Just adding 1 lv up and 1 level down quick play spell card that allow you to summon the next lv up or the lower level. Another card should be a trap card allow you to summon a lv monster ignoring summon conditions but with no effect. A field card call missing level, that once per turn you can recycle a lv card.
@@Zincoshine- Nah Immortal Phoenix Gearfried just works well with it (As equip cards deck) but it's not his deck, it's only just Immortal Phoenix alone anyway so you can't call that a Gearfried deck. Gearfried got quite a numbers of support but can't say they can be the centric for a deck, also yeah Flame Swordsman barely get anything, I don't even understand why Konami made him a Fusion monster than his Normal monster in the original source (Manga and Anime) in the first place.
You know, that would actually fix the problem, since we're in the Links era, and Links don't go into defense ever! Maybe a new Field Spell, or a Link Spider of their own with kind of effect.
Knowing the amount of search available to insect type monsters and the fact that some of their effects are pretty neat against defense position monsters, I think that this little twist might make them a viable rogue deck, add just a little bit more support to take advantage of that and you have something very decent
Okay so I went back to this video randomly and seeing this comment thread made me want to create some Spider support myself so here it is : -Spider Den (Field Spell) : All face-up monsters on the field are treated as being in face-up Defense position. Once per turn, if one of your "Spider" monsters would be destroyed by card effect, you can target one face-up Defense position monster on the field, destroy that target instead. Once while this card is up, you can special summon 1 "Spider" monster from your deck or GY in Defense position but it's effects are negated. - Vanguard Spider (Level 4 Insect, 1000 ATK 1700 Def) : If you control an insect type monster, you can special summon this card in Defense position from your hand or GY and if you do, change an opponent's monster to face-up Defense position. You can only summon "Vanguard Spider" once per turn with this effect - Funnelweb Spider (Level 4 Insect. 1500 Atk/1500 Def) If this card is normal summoned, you can add one Insect type monster from your deck to your hand. If this card battles an opponent's Defense position monster you can (before damage calculation) take control of this monster until the end phase, but it's effects are negated - Hacker Spider (Level 4 Insect, 1300 ATK 1600 DEF). Once per turn, during either player's turn, you can change all of you opponent's monsters to face-up Defense position and if you do, your opponent cannot activate the effect of their Defense position monsters until the end of the current Phase, you then send one Insect type monster from your field to the GY - Skull Spider (Insect XYZ, Rank 4 2000 ATK 2400 DEF) 2 level 4 Insect monsters. Once per turn, you can attach one face-up Defense position monster to this card as XYZ material. Once per turn, you can detach two materials from this card (Quick Effect) : destroy one face-up Defense position monster your opponent controls. If this card battles a Defense position monster, it inflicts piercing battle damage I might or might not do more one day, but I found the exercise to be rather satisfying
@@nibirutheprimalbeing3765 I'm late but if they had a field spell it should be Maliceverous Tablecloth. Napkin should be a quick play spell or something imo
I love the Venom archetype. They need to release a new field spell or some other cards that makes it so that monsters with Venom counters can't activate their effects or be used to summon from the extra deck. Something like that would make it more viable. And of course, better monsters.
I feel like one or the other would be ok, not both, but yes, definitely make the venom archetype more of a stun/grind deck, and it would be really funny because I think the “venom” archetype could actually be used to bring out the “venom dragon” monsters natively, plus super poly, so that’s a pretty decent boss monster/super poly target right there
in the manga/anime gate guardian actually have each of the part special effect,so it have 3 layer of battle protection once summoned each turn, and technically the first union monster to be shown ever maybe if it become a union monster and got a bit more support it could work really well, and maybe add wall shadow/Labyrinth Wall to their archtype since it used by the same duo in the anime/manga
Gate Guardian should be a fusion monster with that effect that require banishing the materials from the field. Wall Shadow should also be a fusion monster summoned with Labyrinth Wall and the equip card, or fusing with Shadow Ghoul and gaining it’s effect.
Technically the first XYZ too, i mean -They are basically 3 monsters stack on each other -The Gate Guardian gains the effects of the materials like Zoodiacs do. -If the monster would be destroyed it only detaches one of it's materials.
@@MilenAnessar If they ever make support for the archetype it should be XYZ focused and they could also rename it as Labyrinth, I mean, Labyrinth tank and Wall Shadow are also level 7 and Labyrinth Wall and Shadow ghoul are level 5 both, these are iconic Paradox Brothers cards too.
Since in the anime, we got a Red Lamp (Fire) and a Purple Lamp (Dark), along with a specifically Fire La Jinn fusion, I always figured the intent was to be like Invoked, a lineup of La Jinn + (any monster of specific attribute) along with Yellow, Brown, Blue, and Green Lamps. I hope they do that one day. Landstar's not an archetype in the actual card game, we just have Swordsman of Landstar and his Tuner retrain, but I love the little guy and he had an archetype in the anime (which was sadly just low level EARTH Warrior vanillas and a spell that spammed them all from hand), and I always wanted them to make it a proper archeyype in the game. Just, like, good.
I'm glad the Venom archetype is in here. They could've been a rather good archetype. Most of the Spells and traps is actually pretty good. They can spread Venom counters, end the Battle phase, and and negate spell cards. Bring back Venom
My first deck been Arcane Force which i loved to play so much. I combo'ed them with all those traps which make me either redo my coinflips or change the outcome so id always get the result i wanted to get. I even had both Ex Rulers twice, Light and Dark. Back in the days noone ever beat me. There has been some monsters in the Anime which never made it into actual cards, that would be a start i guess! Besides that i really loved my Spirit-deck, King of the Skull Servants deck AND my Yubel deck. ^-^
I’d like to see Aliens get some support in the future. More “Cosmic” named monster that support them with great effects. On another note, I’d like to a vid on Archetypes that are fun to play despite its lack of super combos or whatever.
i more like see, a good field for the archtype, and a good boss monster, because the 2 best bosses are ovrrlord and cosmic fortress, goods effects but 2200 and 2500 so thats bit weak
The Gate Guardian monsters are some of my favorite in Yugioh. I really wish they would get some more love. Fun Fact: There's an anime only monster named "Dark Guardian" from GX who would be a part of this archetype. I couldn't be destroyed by battle and had better stats than Gate Guardian, but it needed a spell card to summon it and Gate Guardian had to be in the GY. Apparently Dark Guardian's designs is also the original design intended for Gate Guardian but wasn't used for one reason or another.
A contact fusion but also uses grave like abc buster and floats into gate guardian like neos kluger floats into neos wiseman...and banishes itself (fusion monster) to tag out gate guardian into 3 of its pieces. Thats the only way i can see it even playable
@@VexDylan Reptile is almost Pyro but with more alternatives and support for deck building. What I think is sad because I also like monsters of the Reptile Type.
Iron Chain Dragon wasn't a go-to for generic Level 6 Synchros since slowly milling your opponent could actually help them get closer to their win condition (Graveyards were slowly becoming a second hand for players) and there were more than 1 options that had more than 2500 ATK or better effects for Level 6 Synchros. It could've been a decent deck if they actually put in work to build the Iron Chain archetype properly.
@@pokyhoky1234 Goyo was leagues above any other generic Level 6 at the time and even when it got hit, Brionac wasn't too far behind in coming to the TCG (though it too got hit), Gaia Knight's slightly higher ATK was actually worth justifying a spot over Iron Chain Dragon (though Iron Chain was the only generic Level 6 Dragon so it had a niche in Debris Dragon decks for 1-card Synchro Summons so it had that going for it) and Flamvell Uruquizas had piercing damage and stacked its ATK.
Dark Scorpion and Iron Chain were two of my favorite archetypes. However, we know that Konami prefers to support popular archetypes and create new archetypes that will be left incomplete than to focus on tiny aquetypes that it has already created.
You totally missed the "clear" archetype that only had 2 cards, a high level monster and a field spell that only worked when you had both cards on the field
I wish the Guardian cards got more support. They're my favorite cards. I would love to see another list just like this one, I really enjoyed watching this list. You're very informed and have a great voice for videos, keep up the great work.
In the GX series there was a monster called dark guardian which could be brought out with dark element after gate guardian was sent to the graveyard. If dark element & dark guardian were real cards then that could be a good start to giving gate guardian some support.
Hey thanks for doing my donation idea! I am so glad you did this too. Definitely showing my friends that you did my suggestion btw. This is really cool!
Malicevorous was an archetype played by Number 96 in the Zexal anime although all he ever used them for was to summon his number monster which I really liked and is a fan favorite for me. I would like Malicevorous support as well as some extra Dark Mist stuff
I'd actually drafted a La Jinn archetype a few years back that revolved around multiple genies and lamp monsters that special summon them. This of course was before pendulums and links so not sure how it would look today, but would love to see La Jinn come back. Could be an interesting archetype.
Evil Eyes. They have six monsters (4 main deck, 2 links) and the entire archetype is focused around an equip spell called Evil Eye of Selene and having their two primary main deck monsters gain quick effects as long as they're equipped with it. The archetype came out in Infinity Chasers and has only gotten support in two other sets.
Top 10 Extra Deck monsters that require a different type of Extra deck monster as a material It would be mostly fusions, but I still think it would be interesting
I would love for the original Guardians (played by Rafael in the original duel Monster’s anime) to get support that would actually allow the deck to function as a cohesive whole. It’s a lot to ask, but it’s one of my favorite theme’s for sentimental reasons.
Yeah, the only (if remember correctly?) Atem's loss in the series and the archetype is pretty much useless in RL. It would sadly need a really broken over the top support to work, especially something that would ignore summoning conditions :/
@@ultimatepandaboy He technically lost when Yugi forced him to surrender to Kaiba in Duelist Kingdom and then he lost the final match against Yugi. Haven't watched any of the films so in the show he loses 2/3 times depending on how you count the Kaiba one
Great Job! Other deck that rarely get support are Vylon, Bounzer (he has 5 cards, if I remember), Butterspy (Alexadra would be one of the most powerful cards), Bonding, Alien, Worm, Alligator, Lv, Beastborg, and other archetypes who have a few cards.. (sorry for my english, but i'm italian)
2:40 That's funny because yesterday in Duel Links, "Royal Firestorms Guard" was released but we had the choice between picking a copy of the card or 50 gems instead. And I picked the gems telling myself "there isn't any pyro types in Yu-Gi-Oh anyway" Well, F.
Honestly a Gate Guardian retrain that actually has an ability along with some support for the archetype could be cool. A field spell that makes it so that the enemy has to attack into the monsters who can turn their attack to 0 would be a fun gimmick for a combat beatdown deck.
The main antagonist in GX season 3 part 1 used the Venom deck but Konami probably was afraid to make it too powerful that it would have overshadowed Yubel which was the final villain in the second half.
I actually melded spiders with battlewasps to include Uru, mother spider and Metamorphosed Insect Queen to name a few. They surprisingly work well since Wasps are quickly shuffled out... I might try my hand at a deck profile.. never done one lol
Probably not the first to say this, but I could see Gate Guardian get the Summoned Skull treatment where it gets at least 1 extra deck retrain and 1 main deck retrain along with possibly getting retrains of its 3 component monsters either as lv4 or lower monsters or with some kind of special summon effect.
5:50 Lajin's case is sad. Given he is one Of The few Kaiba's cards that hasn't receive any love 6:40 Anyone wanna bet the new "Cyber" structure deck OCG will do will somehow give support to Cyber Ogre? or integrate it into cyber dragons? 9:56 i can't wait for Malicevorous Spork or Malicevorous Dish. Or Malicevorous Pot
I think they won't ever release Venom support Everytime they try to do something with it there's that one guy in the card design department that goes :"uhhh guys...Snake Rain?"
And then they proceeded to make an entire archetype revolved around said card. Granted, the new snakes aren't that amazing and aren't gonna make Reptiles meta in any way, but it's funny how Konami are willing to experiment with cards that everyone knows would snap the game in half if something extremely good would appear that can abuse them.
Didn’t they *technically* get that Trishula Fusion Monster? I know that it and the Synchro Trishula literally don’t support Ice Barriers at all, but I mean still
A couple of points: 1. The malicevorous cards were basically made for Number 96 in the Zexal anime to have a quick way to go into his card form, Black Mist. So, unless they go all in on making a larger archetype based around Black Mist, I doubt there will be any further cards. That said, weirder archetypes have happened and I certainly wouldn't be against it. 2. The iron chain archetype has a similar story, where the fact that it did kinda slow mill was so that it would put the main character (Yusei) into a precarious position of being low on life points and cards in his deck. So, again, I'm not holding my breath on that one. I could see this getting more support, but unlike the previous example, the character that appeared with this archetype was around for one duel, so it seems far more unlikely.
Invoked Raidjin, People looking at him for the first time EVER without looking at the attribute might think he's LIGHT because of the Thunder in his artwork
The Ritual Beast Ulti- cards are examples of this, Ulti-Apelio is literally shown lighting things on fire yet it is a Wind attribute card, Ulti-Pettlephin is shown diving out of the water yet it is a Wind attribute again.
I love watching your videos because even though I’ve been playing Yu-Gi-Oh since forever, there are still many great old/new cards I’ve never seen before. Many of them I threw away.. your video’s remind me why not to do that!
I'll repeat my last suggestion, here it is: Top 10 best Extra deck monsters with specific materials Example: Majestic Star Dragon Or Top 10 monsters with convoluted summoning requirements Example: fusions that require synchro monsters, synchro pendulum ,etc
"Top Ten Syncho Monster Levels in YuGiOh." The levels with the most amounts of Synchro monsters that are both competitive and generic get top spots on this list.
You should check out the Sealmaster Meisei / Talisman "Archetype" Basically a Secret Village of the Spellcasters, but a Continuous Spell/Trap that are tied to a Normal Monster
Spiders also have Stumbling and Eisbahn which work perfectly with their strategy well at least until Links came out :/ Digtalbugs are in the same position. 9:40 You can easily search Monk Fighter and Master Monk off of Block Dragon.
yeah, love Spiders and DigiBugs but link monsters made it even harder for them to be played, maybe a spell that would treat links as defence position monsters when used for insect type monster effects would help, idk
@alphawolf7417 venoms need support so badly they have a really solid foundation with the venom counters and a lot of their support cards are legit really good even today the problem is that they just don't have enough support to be viable if they just get some more I could see them being a solid deck especially if they manage to get some support cards that bring venominaga out easily
@Martiancookiehunter365 yeah. I get the Venoms weren't used by a super popular character, and they kinda just suck IRL, and they have barely any cards, but still. If Yubel, who only had like 5 cards in her archetype, and Gate Guardians who only had 4, could get entirely functional modern support, then so should Venom. Also, I don't get what Duel Log means when he says they might be too powerful. We're in an era where summoning a single Snake-Eyes Ash basically gives you an unbeatable board.
I think a cool topic would be Top 10 cards that synergize with each other without belonging to the same archetype. Something like Eater of Millions and Gren Maju, or generally cards that make another, usually useless card viable.
I was going to mention meklords since they've been abandoned for years (but apparently have new support coming), so instead I'll point out the Apoqliphort archetypes since they only got 3 cards but require eachother to play. Glad you showcased the venoms though, an old school favorite.
What about "top ten price jumps". For times when a card goes from incredibly cheap to insanely expensive. Or the opposite and you could do "fastest price drops'

The Malicvorous archetype is actually the Shadow Mist deck. That's their canonical boss monster. It got no further support, outside of the Chaos Shadow Mist, because the deck was used by a one off villain.
It's a theme more than an archetype, but I'll love to see more dark couterparts of famous monsters aswell retrained versions of existing dark counterparts like the ones who have some lore behind them
That's a cool idea, maybe something like a mirror world monster archetype. We do kinda have that in Malefic I suppose but having a Light/white Magician, White Eyes Blue Dragon, Black Eyes Red Dragon, no. 93 Dystopia or something like that seems cool to me.
