I think the "danger?" Ones imitate the trope of "something rapidly moves among the darkness, you look around but cant pin down the creature. Finally you hear it behind a bush, you get close to examine it as the air gets tenser and tenser....only to find out the thing that made the sound was a harmless animal. You take a breath of relief, what a cute guy inside a deadly forest. But this is a mere distraction as the camera pans out and reveals the big monster behind you." This is why finding the danger? cards is a bad thing, while finding the Danger! cards is a good thing. Danger? Are distractions meant to let the big ones creep up on you, this is why Jackalope summons a Danger! monster when you find it. Because finding it lets the big guy catch you off guard.
My best guess is that they probably actually exist in real life. I mean, jacakalopes are real. They're just normal rabbits affected by some virus. Tsuchinokos might be real, too. Maybe they're just really elusive animals. Animals like the okapi were once thought as myths, too, but they're not. They're just really rare and elusive.
Danger! One-shot worm (DARK/Wyrm/effect/level 1/0 ATK/100 DEF) (Archetypal effect) When this card is discarded: you can discard any number of cards from your hand: add that many copies of "Danger! One-shot worm" from your deck or field to your hand. If a Danger! monster is sent to the GY, you can special summon as many copies of "Danger! One-shot worm" from your GY to your field. You can only use this effect once per duel Danger! [insert cryptid] (DARK/[insert type] level 1/ATK 400/ 0 DEF) (Archetypal effect) When this card is discarded: target any number of face-up cards on the field, their name is also treated as "Danger! One-shot worm" until the end of the End Phase. You can pay 1000 lp, add one level 4 or lower Danger! monster from your GY to your hand. You can only use this effect once per Duel.
As a Canadian who grew up in the Oakanagan area, I’m honestly very happy Ogopogo gets a card and as a Danger no less! We still have people today claiming they saw Ogopogo. Still find it so cool a legend I grew up hearing stories about is a card.
I don't think I ever actually saw someone using the spells and traps, but I really like "You're in Danger!" I want to run that in a deck just because it's neat flipping up a trap card to tell your opponent they're in danger.
Interesting fact about the mothman: Another cryptid known as the blackbird of chernobyl was supposedly spottet in, Well chernobyl, was described in an identical manner
There is one amazing fact about the Tsuchinoko that you didn’t mention. They are said to roll up like a donut and roll away from danger on their sides. They would then unfurl to attack by acting as a battering ram
Thunderbird is actually seen as a god in many native american myths also great video I love cryptids I wonder if the weindego well be added or the kraken which was actually proven real
“King Kong is more of a kaiju than a cryptid” Yeah but we already got that archetype. My guess is either skull island or perhaps the land of the lost a sort of paradox where these creatures exist
Surprised you didn't comment on how the last trap "You're in Danger" shows a Danger monster we haven't gotten yet. Some kind of Trex or Raptor varrient. It was on the far right. I bring this up because every other spell/trap only depicts monsters from this archetype, so im assuming thats a monster we are getting in the future
Since its silhouetted off it might be some boss monsters for the deck maybe?.Also Danger! Disaster! Has another monster in thr background it might be a Bigfoot not sure.
The reason they have a question mark is because they are not actually dangerous and menacing comparing to the other dangers Like See Bigfoot and Nessie-thats a reason to say it like you are in panic cuz it can hurt you As for the snake and rabbit they are adorable and their dangerous scale is not that big
Being a TCG original, I would expect their names to be things "OwO Fatty Snek Funny!", but for once they actually put effort in naming convection and went with the short and effective "Danger!" moniker, which is impactful and easy to remember. Good play Konami of America.
Eh, a yeti is pretty similar to Bigfoot. They're actually widely considered to be subspecies of the same cryptid. Personally, I'd be more hyped for the wendigo.
I used a Danger Dark World Deck at my locals between December 2019 and March 2020. This was when I first started playing Yu-Gi-Oh in the name of competition.
@@Tetzll123 I did at my locals. I first started with a Pendulum deck, then I immediately switched to a Danger Dark World deck after. This year, I used an Eldlich deck.
Lol same I played it when I first got back into the game last year. I did okay with it and then picked heros back up but iv recently picked the deck back up and have incorporated more of the modern strategies (dpe and the dagda scythe combo) and iv been topping consistently with it
I think it's interesting that Thunderbird! is way more mythological than the others - thunderbirds are figures in some parts of Native American folklore, unlike 'some thing a dude in the 19th century thought he saw'.
@@Ramsey276one yes it is 😂😂😂 even more so since those confusions rather surficed in recent years. Before that people didn't confuse them with one another and I have now idea how that happened to turn out that way😂😂😂
Fun fact about the thunderbird after researchers used the description of the animal and compared it with ancient creatures they found it was an exact match with the Argentavis a giant prehistoric bird. They believe that after people had found the bones of the Argentavis they were missidentified as a recently passed creature thus sparking the legend of the thunderbird
The reason they are mostly North American cryptids is because the archetype originated in the TCG, so there is a lot more American input than most OCG ARCHETYPES
i've been told that jackalopes do kinda exist, they're just jack rabbits that have some disease that causes them to grow horn like growths on their heads. there's actually a similar thing that can happen to people, there's an old doccumentary of an old woman who had been growing similar horns from a weird birth defect, i saw it back in elementary school but I don't remember much about it
We had our version of Dogman in France... except it had actual impact since "Beast of Gévaudan" has brutally murdered a roughly estimated hundred of people in the middle XVI century
I absolutely adore this archetype, the cryptid creatures are so cool to me and their unique effects in the game are awesome, it is without a doubt my favourite archetype
Thank you for all the informative information brother. It is always appreciated how much effort you put into your videos and just wanted you to know that you are a great creator. Hope you're doing well my friend and stay safe in this crazy world we're in right now
The question mark in the lvl 3 monsters are because those two are less "proven" to possibly exist and are more chalked up to hallucinations. The Jackalope is mostly thought to only be seen when hallucinating or drunk and the Tsuchinoko is also thought to be some trick of the eyes. All the other dangers have some kind of photo/video "proof" of its existence.
@@Ramsey276one One, use caps lock responsibility sir. Two, true I think with both they just run from you. I don't know about the snake, I haven't done that much research into Japanese cryptids.
I've studied Cryptic zoology since Middle school and for years I always wanted the Cryptics to be a deck 💖 glad to see Konami came through after years Also I'd love to see a Lunalight Trivia
If I remind well, if you have multiple Danger! on your hand and the opponent discard the DANGER! that did not used the reveal effect, you can Special Summon the revealed Danger! AND trigger the discard effect of the other since both effects are on different sentences. An example : - Reveal Dogman - the Opponent discards Mothman - Special Summon Dogman + draw 1 card - Trigger Mothman's discard effect - Draw 1 card and then discard 1 other card, say... Tsuchinoko - Trigger Tsuchinoko's discard effect and Special Summon it. If your main goal is to trigger the Danger! discard effect, you can use a card like Twin Twister to trigger it for example.
In the case of the Jackrabbithorned rabbits, they may have been based on rabbits afflicted with a disease that causes growths to occur mostly in the head area. Mothman, Owls. Specifically the glow from their eyes being reflected, and owl vocalisations can be rather eerie. being chased by a large, unfamiliar birds can be exaggerated.
Funny thing about Jackalope and dogman... There's an actual real life explination for them. There's a condition that some rabbits can get that cause horn like growths show up and split the skin, then grow into horns. It's, if I remember biology right, a type of bone cancer. Dogman, well there's a condition where people grow insane amounts of hair all over their body. similar to Beast from X-men, and occasionally it'll be matched with a growth deformity with the jaw to give a snout like look. That condition where people grow hair, might also be the reason for werewolf lore in europe.
I would love to see more Danger cards based on other cryptids. But I’d also like to see cards based on the research team. The art does have a few recurring characters on the team like the scientist and the big buff military guy. I think they’d be cool additions.
I love this archetype simply because of how fun it is to play with, in my eyes it’s not serious with itself and yet that’s what makes it so strong and sometimes unpredictable! Also the pink snake is so precious and I will literally get 10 if not 20 of them cuties🥰🥰
Something I just realized about the weaker monsters summoning a stronger monster might be similar to how in movies you see a small creature that isn't a threat but a bigger threat is about to pounce on the main character
I think that the question mark is on Tsuchinoko and Jakelope since those cryptids can be easly mistaken for a normal snake or a rabbit. So its suppose to be read like you are wondering "IS it a tsuchinoko? Or just a fat snake?"
SCPs aren't cryptids though. Almost all of them are fictional. Some of them are based off of real events and some of the cryptids in the danger archetype have been put into SCP lore, but most SCPs are clearly fictional or can be traced back to a creator
@@preafyx as he said but not going into danger! because danger! is cryptic its like saying be awesome to see godzilla as a hero because heros fight monsters spcs are cool but they dont need to be in every demon fiend or myth based deck
the reason Tsuchenoko and Jackalope have a question mark is because unlike the other danger! cards they aren't nessisarily dangerous, and the "real" Jackalope and Tsuchenoko are believed to not be aggressive.
although technically Nessie isn't widely believed to be hostile, she is supposed to be a giant dinosaur so she could probably eat you if she were real and you made her mad.
I think the reason for the question mark is because they are the only ones that look more like their real animal counterparts, snake and rabbit. The other are unmistakable in their appearance and would be easily picked out while the other two would need a few glances and some squinting.
What people often think are Jackelopes are actually just rabbits with a parasite infection that makes protrusions grow out of their faces and they sometimes look like antlers
When I was about 6 years old I was staying at a house being babysat by a couple of 12 year olds that went to my boyscout club. My grandmother had to work late so she was gone past nightfall. Me and the two boys were playing super smash brothers (I think the first one) on a Nintendo game cube in a glassed off patio room that you could see most of the yard in. The house was in a clearing probably half a football field long in all directions in the middle of the woods, so seeing anything close to the house was easy and unmistakable. It was a full moon so it was bright outside. The boys decided to make some hotdogs for dinner for me since neither of our guardians had come back home. Before they left the room, they informed me that they had seen a creature in the woods before, and that they never told me before because they’d only see it at night and I’ve never stayed late enough for me to need to worry about it. They said if I ever saw anything, to hide and call their names right away. I told them ok and went back to playing smash bros. About 5 minutes later I heard a loud thud in the yard, and when I looked out there was a tall creature with huge, bright yellow eyes in the middle of the field between the house and the forest. I froze up in fear, and the creature slowly made its way towards the door. The creek of the screen door opening finally snapped me out of my paralysis and I grabbed the nearest pillow, covered my face, and screamed for the boys. The screen door quickly closed and seconds later I could hear the boys rushing down stairs to see what had happened. When I took the pillow away from my face the thing was gone. I know I didn’t imagine it because I’ve been scared of the dark, I never imagined monsters in the closet or creatures in the woods, my real fear was of the darkness itself. That was and has been the only time I had ever truly ever seen something comparable to monsters from a kid’s imagination. I know for a fact it wasn’t the boys pulling a prank on me because they came rushing down from the stairs seconds after the creature let go of the door, which wasn’t enough time for the boys to sneak through a window to get back inside. Ever since that day I’ve always believed in the paranormal. That being said I like these cards a lot and would really like to build a deck based on them
We call them criptids. Creatures of unknown species that may or may not exist. Bigfoot is believed to be some sort of giantopitacus that may have escaped extinction and evolved some. The Loch Ness monster is actually an animal that’s big but straddles the fresh water and salt divide and few animals can do that the best guess is a bull shark or possibly a certain bass species that can do this. I know this as Loch Ness is connected to a freshwater river which in turn connects to a brackish river mouth which is connected to the sea. We don’t know exactly. Not western Virginia just West Virginia. The thunderbird isn’t Alaska it’s been allegedly sited across the southwest of America mostly Arizona and New Mexico, there are legends that are told by the native people of that region of this beast.
