I think a better title for this would be "career-defining mistakes." Some of these athletes had great careers even afterward, but they'll never be able to shake the reputation as a result of these mistakes.

Kind wrong with some of these: - Suarez was hammered by media but quickly recovered thanks to his great performances while playing for Barcelona. In the next years he was considered the best striker in the world and nowadays he is considered to be arguibly the best striker of his generation and of the last decade. - Zidane was also hammered by the media, but he was retiring anyways. Despite of this, the headbutt is rarely brought up and nowadays Zidane is world-widely considered one of the greatest of all time. If anything Zidane more than made up for the incident because years later he became one of the most succesful coaches in the world by leading Real Madrid to 3 Champions Leagues in a row.

Being a die hard Red Sox fan, I never placed the sort of blame on Bill Buckner as many. This moment somehow made him into a Scape Goat and I totally think that was unfair. The entire playoffs the Sox replaced him in the late innings of a game for defensive reasons because his knees were just shot. I remember one moment earlier in the Series where he was rounding third base giving his all to score and you could see the excruciating pain he was in. He gave it his all. I also think that the pass ball/wild pitch (My opinion is that it was a wild pitch) was a much bigger factor, because that caused the game to be tied and thus winning (The World Series) was no longer a sure thing. The assholes who sent him death threats clearly knew nothing about Baseball. R.I.P. Billy Buck.

I have to object for Roberto Baggio characterisation on this list. His career wasn't ruined after the penalty miss, majority of fans across different clubs appreciated the man for his genius talent. Without him Italy wouldn't have made it to the final and beat so many other teams to it. He was rushed to play in the final although he was suffering from injury. That penalty was for Italy to stay alive, others have also missed. Franco Baresi (greatest of all time defender and current AC Milan captain) who had career defining performance in the final also missed. Still I'm glad this channel is including actually non American sports and athletes that are most popular around the world.

“The Miracle of the Meadowlands” should have made the top ten! A couple of the New York Giants’ coaches got fired by the end of the season. Also, Leon Lett does not even deserve an honorable mention! The Dallas Cowboys had a huge lead against the Buffalo Bills in the Super Bowl. The Cowboys still won despite Leon’s bone headed goof!

As an Italian who was just 8 during the 1994 World Cup, I’ll always remember Baggio for how happy he made me with his goals against Nigeria, Spain and Bulgaria, rather than for the missed penalty. It was a phenomenal summer to me, even if we lost the cup. And it should be worth mentioning that Baggio shouldn’t have played the final since he was injured. But what could our coach do, leaving him out after all he did? Our maniac media would’ve eaten the coach alive if he did it. The fact that Baggio was on the pitch in the sweltering heat of Pasadena shows how professional and great he was as a player. His career suffered a lot because of that penalty, but he still played very well in the years after 94. He made it to the 98 World Cup, it was almost a national scandal when he wasn’t called for 2002, and had a major role in minor Serie A teams like Bologna and Brescia in the latest years of his career. I’d say his career was marred by that penalty, but it didn’t ruin it. He is still regarded as one of the best Italian players ever.

It was before everything you listed, but Kermit Washington’s (Lakers) sucker punch to Rudy Tomjanovich (Rockets) in 1977 seems to jump out as one that should be on this list. No matter what he did for the rest of his career, Washington was infamous for that incident.
