"Beast Wars" was Hasbro's last gamble to resuscitate "Transformers" which proved successful after nearly a decade of decline. The 3 key factors were it's character development, it's soundtrack, & eventually improved animation quality which surpassed many computer animated shows at the time. The sequel series "Beast Machines" was where the shark was jumped & killed the "Beast Series."

It wasn't until a couple years back when I watched that episode and realized it started with him contemplating taking his own life, unsure of where he fit in the world. It's an incredible example of story telling.

Grimlock is the best Transformers character. Loved him and his group the second I saw them for the first time. Then again, I do love dinosarus so there's that. So an awesome group no matter the continuity!

Just in case anyone needed a reminder how far ahead Beast Wars was ahead of its time in terms of character-building. No one is a 'flat character'. Everyone has an entertaining personality and quirks (okay Quickstrike and Terrorsaur are kind of one-note but still entertaining). Like Silverbolt, a Paladin eagle/wolf bot based on the 60s Adam West Batman. Without his tireless belief and love, Black Arachnia may never have been redeemed.

I'm SO HAPPY That Tarantulas is in the Top 3! He's my All Time Favorite Transformer and just all time favorite character! Man do I hate how they portrayed him in Transformers Earthspark, even though I absolutely loved his design. And I'm happy that Beast Megatron is #2. He is my All Time Favorite Megatron! Of course Dinobot is #1, he's a fantastic character!

When I first saw Beast Wars, I immediately become interested in Dinobot then absolutely become my favorite transformer in all franchise. Dinobot made the series so interesting, and I wanted see him more! To the point I actually idolize Dinobot, always carried his belief in honor and always honest who he truly is. It's no surprise he's number one in this list!!! I really hope to see Dinobot in the movie rise of the beast or if by chance have Dinobot stand alone movie Dinobot, Forever!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey yo, imagine if Andy Serkis was casted to voice Grimlock in one of the upcoming Transformers movies. He has been known to do both motion capture and voice acting roles before he transitioned into appearing in more live action projects. It would be extremely expensive, since they would have to completely re-render all of the animation. It could be done, but it would probably be cheaper to just make a completely new cartoon.

I grew up with BW and had brothers that grew up on G1. One of my brothers didn't quite understand why Tarantulas tried to blow up the Ark at one point, saying that would've killed the spider himself. Then I pointed out to my brother there was a G1 character that was purple, scientist, one yellow eye; and my brother's eyes widen apon realization

Cheetor deserved a spot on this list. He may not have been a huge player in the entire story but his maturation story that was constantly in the background (especially in Beast Machines) was a memorable one. Plus he was the yellow kid appeal character and that deserves one automatically.

Absolute facts. Beast Wars was huge on character development and Cheetor was the character who developed the most between Beast Wars and Beast Machines. Always had a cool design too. Him being excluded from the list is wild. Or as Cheetor would say himself, “it’s a crime”.

Fun fact Hasbro originally chose Waspinator to die at the beginning of season 2 to make way for new characters but story editors Bob Forward and Larry DiTillo convinced them to spare Waspinator because of how popular he was so Terrorsaur was chosen instead to die along side Scorponok. Also Silverbolt should have had an honorable mention.

Rampage was definitely my favorite character in beast wars, a very horrible nightmare created by the so-called higher-ups. In cybertron, a perfect combination of Frankenstein and Jason Voorhees. It is truly a living nightmare, indeed. Hope that they'll bring him back. In the movie and toys again.

Other honorable mentions (most of them were from Beast Wars II & Neo anime): - Lio Convoy/Leo Prime - instead of Optimus Primal, Lio Convoy was the leader of the Maximals in the anime. - Lio Junior - Lio Convoy's "Junior Companion" & "Sidekick" ala Batman to Robin. - Skywarp - an eagle Maximal - Santon - and elephant maximal. - Magnaboss - a combiner transformer consist of Lio Junior as the head, Shywarp as the rear wings and Santon as the main body. * basically all of Maximals and Predacons in the show.

Generally a good breakdown, but some areas could have been more explored; the tragedy of Rhinox's fall from grace in "Beast Machines" (although I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks he was just a victim of Megatron's reprogramming rather than him outright defecting on his own) or Cheetor's character arc from eager rookie at the start of "Beast Wars" to becoming second-in-command in "Beast Machines", as an example
