Lol I have seen this thing in my flemish lesson (I live in brussel so dutch is obligated) but I thought that it was fishes with vegetables 😭, I believe that alsmost nobody in the french part know this dish.
As a Belgian I would off course eat it all. I am a Belgian living in the USA for the last 29 years and I have to say, the chocolate dessert is also very popular here and is called Chocolate molten Lava cake, I think its origin is in France and not Belgian but of course the Belgian kitchen is pretty much based on many French cuisine as per our geographic location. I think chocolate mousse would be considered more Belgian? Anyway I Love your videos! Keep on going!
@@user-ch9if6px6r the restaurant that Francis runs is called Taverne Ter Linden! It has some of the best value and most delicious traditional Belgian cooking in all of Brussels 👍
Dankje voor de informatieve video! I'll be visiting Antwerp and Brussels when I visit Belgium with my Dutch girlfriend. So excited to try Belgian food 😍
@Naick & Kim, I think I should apologize but once i started to watch this video i couldn't stop until it was done, so i didn't get to the like button until it was over, sorry my bad for watching such a super video on an empty stomach!!!
Loved this. Belgium really does have great food. That’s chocolate desert was insane and the mussels looked divine. As @99 Stars says. Please do a Belgian beer Vlog x
Great overview of some of our favourite dishes in Belgium . Would have loved to see the Carbonade a la Flamande there too. And then are the fries of Maison Antoine :)
I was a German army soldier who was posted to the NATO headquarters in Mons/Bergen from 1975 to 1978. Belgian food was erg smakelijk. I loved to eat mussels but in Germany we do not use a fork but eat them using the mussle shells to pick them and a single shell for slurping the broth. Ik hou van de trappistenbieren, really strong and tasteful. Filet américain was one of my favourite dishes served at the Belgian canteen. Hope to see much more videos of Belgium and to see you on the road again once you have found another tenant for your apartment.
Mmm..I love Chimay beer! That's what I drink when I visit my cousin in Lille. My favorite food that you ate are the Liège waffles with nothing on them. YUM! The Grand Place is really gorgeous, well worth a visit. I couldn't find the Manneken Pis, believe it or not, but I'll be back.
It takes Flemish people to finally make a video on Belgian food that is not about only snacks. Belgium is heaven for food lovers! Go beyond the fries, chocolate and waffles.. sure they are good but there is so much more!
As a Belgian: never go to a friterie in the center of Brussels (close to the grote markt, like Fritland). They're overpriced, not the best and only there to get the money of tourists. The best friteries you will find in the small towns, where the locals go. Until you tried that, you've never tried real Belgian fries
@@NaickKim We have a packed itinerary. Staying at Het Anker in Mechelen and taking the trains to Antwerp, Bruges, Ghent, and Brussels. Then driving a car and going to a little bit of Netherlands, Dunkirk France, Watou, Hainaut, Bastogne, Dinant and a bunch more stops. Also staying in St Bernardus, Espace Chimay, and La Merveilleuse. It’s eating, drinking, and exploring for 8 days. Can’t wait! Your video is the best one on RU-vid about Belgian food. Keep up the great work!
I love this video, as its delivered by locals who know their food.. we're returning to Europe and Brussels is part of the itinerary..looks like a very charming city...appreciate the tips..cant wait to taste authentic Belgian waffles, but our Walmart waffles would do for now..🤣
doing my research for my trip to belgium when i stumbled to this video... never been a beer drinker but will try one, hopefully this will change my view on beer. and the food.. they look delish, cant wait to try them...
Thank guys, it's not common to find English videos on Belgium that are made by people who actually know what's good. Got to try this moelleux though I didn't know the place
Can't believe you missed out two of my favourites: carbonnade flamande and waterzooi. But eel in green is fantastic - I always make a point of having it every time I visit Belgium.
We've made another video on Belgian food that featured carbonnade flamande, probably our favorite dish in Belgium 👍🏻👍🏻 Waterzooi is also a good option, but it's less popular in the east of Belgium.
That was a pretty nifty and salivating video, very well done! But it leaves room for a "part 2" maybe, with Stoemp, Garnaalenkroketten, Waterzooi, Vlaamse Stoofpot, Chicons au gratin and the sweet breads Kramiek and Kraquelin (although all those are more of wintery dishes)?
Well, eel is a tradition in a small part of Flanders where they are born. Het Waasland en Scheldeland between Ghent and Antwerp basically. Eels are born, migrate to the Zaragoza sea and return to feast on our rivers stocks. Ones they're grown to more or less a meter in lenght, they're caught and prepared. I prefer the flower coated fried eels with Belgian fries and tartar sauce. Incredible!!!
I'm traveling to Belgium for a day this month with my bf and I was looking for some food spot inspiration and discovered you. Great video overall (LIKED) - love the color of your soup but I don't eat fish...Fries and Waffel's are a must but we're definitely also going to have some Cuberdons and a Vol au Vent (can you get that at most places?). Nice drone shots in-between, they didn't need a countdown, believe in yourselves more, people are going to watch on... The video is dynamic and informative and the edit is smooth.
Due to my family's history of heart disease, I would probably have go light on the traditional dishes and desserts if I ever have a chance to visit, but it looks good.
THE FOOD OF BELGIES ARE SO CLEAN AND SO TASTY. TRY THE FOOD FROM "PIZZARIA" ALSO. THEY ALSO GIVE VERY MUCH TASTY FOODS. BELGIUN FRENCH FRIES ARE SO CRUNCHY AND DELICIOUS.
Aux Armes de Bruxelles! I lived in Brussels for three years, during my ten year stint in Europe. This is probably my favorite restaurant in Europe. I highly highly recommend their signature lobster waterzooi. The hint of cognac in the sauce is just fabulous. Haven’t been back for twenty years now. Really need to start planning my trip. Love from Japan.
This is the best food recommendation vlog i ever seen. Staying in belgium for almost 9 months now but did'nt had any clue about those dishes. Thank you very much , now I will try all these dishes in brussels, that will be my new year resolution. Any top 10 dishes and places to try in leuven ?
I have this weird craving for a chocolate dessert now ^^ what a delicious parade of food! The belgian fries stand at the Christmas market here in Frankfurt is always so busy with tons of people hungry for them. Hope it comes back this year...
Besides Lebanese, what other ethnic restaurants bare popular in Belgium. Due to it's colonial history, I would assume African eateries are popular as well.
Almost all the food I miss so much (except the eels, I've never tried those even though I grew up in Brussels) . I haven't had filet Americain in years. Nor real Belgian frites. Though mussels I often have in the North of France - they are smaller than the Belgian/Dutch ones. Moelleux is known as Lava cake in most English speaking countries. Also where are the maatjes and the pain d'epice? - just 100 metres off the Grand Place there is (or was) one of the best shops for Pain d'epice and Pain a la Grecque (which isn't really a type of bread). However, great content, and a trip down memory lane for me as you walked down some of the streets I used to traipse along as a teenager.
What is the name again of the restaurant at the end , your friends place, we are in Belgium next week and would like to find it , great video, thanks for the info
Every like 300m there is a fry shop here. It is considered a meal in Belgium. I could go "Oh frog legs? Who eats that? That's not food you silly French!" but that would just make me a petty dastard with no life.
They can't do just one episode on all Belgian beers, there are 1150 original beers in different styles: pils, abbey, white, fruit, dark, trippel, red-brown,.... Maybe do one for every type of beer?
Uh not really… it considered the best in the world. Please try local praline makers when in 🇧🇪. As a French i love Belgium 🍫 so much, so i married a Belgian man 😊 and live there now …
