They're amazing, yeah. I've seen em twice now. The first show was prior to Spirit of Ecstasy, and it was a more "traditional" set, while, at the more recent one, they played the most insane set I think they could've conjured. Lots of new songs and they picked super chaotic old ones, it was almost more like a noise set than a metal show, because of all the blasts and the improv sections. My partner and I were right against the barricade and got our faces completely melted off. And covered in champagne of course 😂

Haven't finalized a top 10 of my own yet, but I completely agree on Voivod, Devil Master, Imperial Triumphant, White Ward, and Dream Unending. Those five records are some of the cream of the crop this year for me as well!
Allright my top albums without order cuz they're all fantastic - Deathspell Omega - The Long Defeat, if I had to choose AOTY it would be this one, it grown on me over the year and from being bored by it now I love this shit - Artificial Brain - self titled - Blut Aus Nord - Disharmonium - undreamable abysses, I fucking haven't ever heard something like that - Truchło Strzygi - Gwiezdny demon and - Owls Woods Graves - Secret Spies of the horned Patrician, both albums I love for the same reason, they're the best mix of black metal and punk i've heard in a long time, love the energy and wibe. I also I've been recently to Truchło Strzygi concert and holy shit I cant move my neck now - Decapitated - Cancer Culture, DECAPITATED IS BACK BABY, I worried a lot about this one before it came out but maaan it slaps hard, their best since Organic Hallucinosis easily - Immolation - Acts of God, IMMOLATION IS BACK BABY and it's actually their best record since Majesty and Decay imo - Imperial Triumphant - Spirit of Ecstasy, the weirdest album of the year but I love that shit - Khold - Svartsyn - Sothoris - Wpiekłowstąpienie - Durbatuluk - Erzahle Baba Jaga - Tribal Gaze - The Nine Choirs - split of Angrrsth and Czort - W czeluść, only 4 songs but all are incredible Some honorable mentions: - Megadeth - The sick the dying and the dead - Behemoth - opvs contra natvram - Meshuggah - Immutable - Bloodbath - Survival of the sickest they're not outstanding records but in my humble opinion all of them shows that those, let be honest, old bands, still have something to offer - Ripped to Shreds - Jubian, here's some interesting death metal shit, I didn't listened to it too much so that's why they're not in main list - Fallujah - Empyrean, same thing as with Jubian - Midnight - Let There Be Witchery - Wilderun - Epigone, well done prog metal - Varnheim - Aura So now some really bad ones: - Five Finger Death Punch - AfterLife, MY EARS ARE FUCKING BLEEDING WHEN I LISTEN TO IT - Motionless in white - scoring the end of the world, just pure cringe - Machine Gun Kelly - Mainstream Sellout, boring af, nothing interesting to offer - Sabaton - The War to End All Wars - I'm gonna piss off many people but shit, listening to Sabaton makes me want to cut my ears and put them to ass or something And now my biggest disappointments - Kreator - Hate Uber Alles, pretty boring - Amon Amarth - The Great Army of kurwa something i dont remember, BORING AS F0000CK - Lorna Shore - Pain Remains, allright it's actually listenable and even has some fantastic moments like opening track but overall I'm bored in half of the record, all songs sound really similar and i have really big lack of variety. Also I think it's worse than Immortal and even Flesh Coffin, shit, all 3 songs from EP was better than this one. Except of that Lorna really must understand that not every song needs a breakdown or solo because they're most repetetive elements in this, already repetetive album
I whole heartedly agree with you're take on Lorna shore because as a fan of the band yeah I can for sure say that the song writing flaws in that alb are GLARING to say the least. Like it's way to repetitive to it's own detriment.

While only one of those albums broke my top 30 (Blut Aus Nord), I can say that all the albums listed I've enjoyed and appreciated in some capacity. Plus it has a song about beating the shit out of rapists. That alone makes it worthy is respect, IMO! Like Voivod for our host, I have a strong bias, except it's for Autopsy. Is "Morbidity Triumphant" the most original album of the year? Of course not. But it is pure old school greatness. On the other end of the spectrum, Wilderun delivered an epic masterpiece with "Epigone". Respect to Mike Patton and the Dead Cross gang for delivering a heater.

The 10 that moved me in 2022 Sigh Satan Toxik Meshuggah Loudness Soreption Doomocracy Avatarium Decapitated Revocation Candlemass and Hath would have been in the top 10 had the production not sucked so hard. Honorable mention to Ibaraki, A-Z, Temple of Void, Megadeth, and Obsidious.
I gotta say Hath still is up there for me as my views on production are more on the "ignorance is bliss" side of things. For me with production, it's either god awful, or it's NOT God awful. So now after reading ur comment even if I listen to all that was promised again with my mind on focusing on the production, I'm pretty sure I won't hear it as God awful. Man I really hope I'm right.... I mean.... It was promised!
@@DavidQuessy Yeah I wish I could not be bothered by it because it is a kick ass album. Hath seems to be on the verge of something unique in metal and that is rare. I wont go into detail with my sonic nit picking because if you are not hearing what I'm hearing I don't want to give you a red pill and mess up the "ignorance is bliss" enjoyment of this awesome record.

My list (not in any order), with reasons for every pick: VENOM PRISON - EREBOS (Wales) Holy fuck, shit slaps. Didn't like the cold production at first, but holy shit the performances and Larissa's voice. One of the most listened too cause it came early this year. CELESTE - ASSASSINE(S) (France) So fucking violent, I love this. There is almost a shoegaze/onirc atmosphere feel to it, even though the riffs are pure crushing hardcore. PURE WRATH - HYMN TO THE WOEFUL HEARTS (Indonesia) Classic black, perfectly executed and mixed. Shoutout to the lyrics about one of the worst political purges in history against the Indonesian communists and minorities, who died in milions. ESOCTRILIHUM - CONSECRATION OF THE SPIRITÜS FLESH (France) Holy shit. The fucking dude trimmed it. It's not 10 days long, and it's beautiful! Plus I guess his hamster died or something, 'cause he's piiiiissed. ASHENSPIRE - HOSTILE ARCHITECTURE (Scotland) Definetelly leftist, sperimental black metal with "theatrical" lyrics. Weird but couldn't get enough this summer. PILLAGING VILLAGERS - PILLAGING VILLAGERS (Usa) A hidden gem discovered though AMG. The dude imagines a peasant revolt that actually succeeds. The crust punk/dropckick murphys salad I didn't know I needed to cheer me up. DE PROFUNDIS - THE CORRUPTION OF VIRTUE (England) Old school death with tech death influences. The production is phenomenal, and the warm fretless bass remarkable. I had a ton of fun with it. CHAT PILE - GOD'S COUNTRY (Usa) I feel this sludge album needs to be listened by anyone loving metal's provocatory and political potential. For real, this is not libtard-dem jargon, it's intense pain, poverty and suffering on a social and personal level. "grimace_smoking_weed.jpg" , as painful as it is to sit though, is my song of the year. Plus it's a flawless album full of hooks. GAEREA - MIRAGE (Portugal) I loved their previus albums, but this is their masterpiece. New wave of european black, with so many layers of sound and song structure it's a joy for the ears. The dude screams like he's desperate and you can really feel the darkness, the intimacy of the performance. Really emotional. TALLAH - THE GENERATION OF DANGER (Usa) This guys are making me appreciate something nu metal-ish, which I generally hate. This thing is fun af. I don't have a favorite one, but Gaerea and Chat Pile are way better compared to the others, I just can't choose between the two. Great picks, great channel and thanks for all your videos Robert!
