@@ShadowXardas Back in the PS2 era, people played the games they had without worrying about RU-vid opinions or reviews. We would go to GameStop or any store, pick a game based on its cover, and that was it. Games were more relevant back then because now people only play popular games, and many great titles get overlooked.
I would think one of the largest open worlds would have to be Witcher 3. Just the amount of meaningful content on display can be overwhelming to anyone not prepared for it.
Biggest open world would have to be Cyberpunk 2077. While the map is not necessarily big, the world feels lived in. It feels like an actual place that could possibly exist. A lot of open worlds, for me at least, don't feel as genuine... It's just the tiny details that make all the difference.
You under represented fighting and wrestling games. Virtua Fighter IV, Soul Calibur 3, Def Jam FFNY, or any of the WWE games... all deserving of a mention.
My personal favorite open world game was the elder scrolls 3 morrowind. As a kid, that game was insane. Not just a huge map, but it always felt alive. I put hundreds of hours into it and could go back any day 😁
I loved the shadow hearts series. I still have my ps2 just to be able to still play those as well as Xenogears, thousand arms, and breath of fire 3 and 4 through backwards compatibility.
The open world game that felt the biggest to me was Red Dead Redemption 2. Not just because it's full of so many things to discover, but also because the game encourages you to take things slow and enjoy the scenery and observe the wildlife.
@@PoeticInsanity No I wasn't, I was leaving a suggestion for their next episode. They ask for suggestions at the beginning of each episode, you can find it about 1 minute into the video.
Where is Shadow Hearts' great rpg great story and both S.H. 1 & 2 are both on the PS2 ! These two games really need the recognition they deserve. You guys don't know a good game from the sun ! Look into the games. You'll be pleasantly surprised at how good it is. Also, for big open world games, I go for Ghost of Tsushima.
Honestly, the biggest open world game I can think of is The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. It's absolutely enormous and packed full of gorgeous details that blow my mind.
I recently started playing PS2 games again after 16 years using the PCSX2 emulator. Completing God of War 1 and 2 brought back a flood of nostalgia and cherished memories. I vividly remember saving my tiffin money just to visit the game parlor. It feels truly amazing to relive those days. ❤❤
Open Worlds that felt big: Based on the thumbnails: GTA San Andreas (listening to ice cubes it was a good day while driving in a flying car, bless cheats). Shadow of the Colossus (large landscapes making you feel small in a large world, I felt tiny when starting the game). Based on my personal experiences: God of War 4 (PS4). Jak 3. Assassins Creed IV Black Flag (my mind expanded on the thought of being a pirate, well a video game pirate, but a pirate nonetheless). Also, I kept a NAG magazine and an advertising card board for the game for three years and this was the first ps4 game I bought with my own money. Spiderman PS4 (the freedom of swinging, as though you own the skies of New York). The Simpsons Hit and Run (it felt like I was in Springfield, ah, a remake would be wonderful). Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets on PS1 (seeing Hogwarts for the first time, exploring each room, felt like I was in it). Lego Marvel Superheroes on the ps4 (flying in the sky or driving around, judge me all you want, it felt immersive to feel like Iron Man). These are some of the games that I felt were massive.
I would say dragon quest XI. Might not be the biggest map but you still do the ruined world part and go back to change everything. The map feels brand new every time.
To me, the game that felt the biggest, especially the first time I played it, is Death Stranding. It's obviously more so the traversal style that game has, but when you go from the first area to the second it feels massive.
I wish people would stop using the FFX laughing scene out of context. The laughs are supposed to be forced. That’s the point of the scene. Forcing yourself to laugh. They laugh naturally right after at how absurd they sound. 🫠
Biggest open world would have to be No Man's Sky. Worlds upon worlds to explore, and you can go whichever way you want, all while home, your friends, and the community is just one jump away.
I gotta say Baulders Gate Dark Alliance 1+2 and both Champions of Norath games were some of my absolute favorites from this era, D4 could've honestly learned a few things from them
Id say the biggest open world map would have to be AC4: Black Flag. The feeling of setting sails on the Caribbean as Edward felt so immersive. As you raided and boarded enemy ships as this cool Assassin/Pirate hybrid and explored the ocean, it just felt sooo satisfying. Was some of the gameplay loop a bit repetitive yeah but weve never had a Pirate game that was nearly as immersive and breathtaking to explore as Black Flag's
Following this entry list, gta san andreas by far felt like one of the biggest open world games of the time on release. The way the fog was used and the slow reveal opening of each of the areas genuinely made it feel like you were travelling through an entire country during the story of the game
@@juleanbagsic not really, it was primarily a Gamecube game so many people are not putting it because of that reason, although the PS2 port was pretty awesome too but, way inferior in audio/visual department…
@@antemlikota8760 Oh I didn't know that it was in the game cube was the orginal, sorry. But I first played in PS2 I was amazed so much and scared at the same time hahaha
Silent hill 2. The only game I have ever played in every difficulty and puzzle difficulty in every mix. Even beat the 2 Pyramid heads with the Great Knife. Love this game.
The biggest open world game for me is Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit. The final race really made me realise how large the world and playing is just amazing.
Pretty obvious but Fallout 4 or Skyrim. One of those open world games where you play it multiple times and find new things each play thought. Plus, actually travelling from one location to another is never dull.
Blitz the league Midnight Club 3 DUB edition Bully Scooby Doo Unmasked Shrek 2 NARC Destroy all Humans 2 NFL Street 1 and 2 Been having a blast with these!
In my opinion, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom had one of the largest open world maps because you can explore the sky and the chasms along with the surface world!
Great list but missing whole genres. First person shooters like Timesplitters:FP, Killzone, Black. Fighters like Tekken Tag Tournament and Soul Calibur 3. Biggest open world game would have to be EVE Online. Mindbogglingly big. "Where the f**k do I even start" big.
FFX deserves to get in the top five. The story is absolutely phenomenal, the cast is great, the Sphere Grid is a great levelling system and the gameplay is excellent. Metal Gear Solid 2 should not be higher than FFX or San Andreas.
The fact that GTA San Andreas is not the top 3 makes this video bunk, seriously that game is still the best in the series because of how much random extra stuff you can do for the amount of space on the CD itself. Ridiculous come on
There are two commissions that are absolutely unforgivable: 1) Resident evil 4 - the game that revolutionized modern gaming and whose effects are seen and felt to this day; 2) MGS 3 should have been on this list instead of MGS 2 and you know it. As for the biggest world - let's say AC Valhalla for the sheer scale, but as for the richness of the world I would say RDR2.
One of the biggest open worlds ever is certainly TES 2: Daggerfall. It was the biggest open world *ever* up to that point, and still remains the largest world in an Elder Scrolls game to this day. Granted, a lot of it was barren emptiness, but still.
I gotta say it, as much as I really do think the MGS2 was a phenomenal sequel, I think MGS3 is that little bit better. It made me feel like I was part of huge storyline more than any other game.
A good list guys! but I wish it could just have been ps2 exclusive, because almost of all (if not all of the games on this list) have remasters or remakes on newer consoles, so it's no point recommending the games here if you already have it on better versions
Biggest open world IMO is Horizon Forbidden West. The first one already felt big but the second one is so huge that even the end credit flight can't cover the whole map.
Sony at the top of their game. They made a product that the consumer wants with the software to keep them glued to it. Today, the PS5 is still nothing more than a status symbol. No games, no exclusives.
It was today I learned ss tricky used the "tricky" song, I never played this game nor did I ever feel the desire to. Also never played ffx (until last year) but I played ffx2 to completion, and only made it a half hour or so into ffx bc it sucked.
If Downhill Domination and Katamari Damacy aren't on this list, I'm downvoting and unsubbing. EDIT: Ok, I downvoted, but the dis on Bono prevented me from unsubbing.
Alright this is a weird argument, but the Kingdom Hearts series is the biggest open world series. Every world felt maze like at times, and the gummi space travel could either be a fun rail shooter or an absolute slog. It made everything feel way bigger than it actually was. Honorable mention to LoZ on the NES
My list In no order because is so hard. NFL STREET 1 / 2 NBA STREET 1 / 2 / 3 Gran Turismo 3 / 4 Metal Gear 3 Sly Cooper Def Jam From NY Black Need for speed underground 2 Need for speed mostwanted WWE Here Comes the Pain
