I'm glad your list includes lesser known titles. I'm always looking for new stuff but just finding the same old Final Fantasy stuff which i've already played.
@@cacklegag3284 I used to love thr trails series too because of Cold Steel. But playing idea factory games dumb me down and now I don't like games with too much text. In trails in the sky the npcs are too talkative.
heres my list of my all time favorites these are all 3D RPGs for those looking for non 2D games... 9 Valhalla Knights 2 8 Hexyz Force 7 Brave Story 6 Tales Of The World 5 Ys Seven 4 Phantasy Star Portable 2 3 Gods Eater Burst 2 Crisis Core FFVII 1 Monster Hunter Freedom Unite
Old-ish video, but I recently finished Legend of heroes: trails in the sky and I feel it to be one of my top 20 of all time due to the writing and how much heartache the cliff hanger ending gave me. Now listen, most of the plot twist are predictable, so are certain motivations, the draw however is how well plot lines interconnect as you close in on the climax. That and every NPC in the game has their own story told through dialogue that changes after practically every story point. There's a lot of attention to detail here to be engrossed in, along with satisfying gameplay that's sure to test your decision making.
Jeremiah S Um.. I just finished Trails in the sky and I just don't know what to do with my life.. I don't know when the english vers second chapter will come out so yeah.. so um do you have any games similar to TitS ?
I felt the same way for a long while. After hopelessly stalking any information on the second chapter my heartache eventually went away. Sadly the other "Legend of heroes" titles aren't that great and the English version of the second chapter is still in development. I also haven't played a game like trails in the sky so I'm sorry to say I'm empty on recommendations. But hey.. The second chapter has ten chapters with twice as much dialogue than the first. I feel like the wait for Estelle's second adventure will be worth the period of melancholy.
It was supposed to be out last march.. but oh well they reported it. I read that the translation is finished but they're still checking the game grammar and stuff so that it can be 100% perfect. But sincerely I just want to play it, even if it's in a bad English, if it isn't out in 6 months maximum I'll just buy the Japanese version and desperately try to understand it. ( I'm studying Japanese but I'm still a noob.. ) And yeah I read that it is twice the size of the first chapter so I think it's gonna be worth the wait !! But still, what are we gonna do about the third chapter ? xD Like ok we finish the second one and after that ?.. So much questions haha. Sorry if I talked too much and sorry for my bad English, I'm French so it's not my native language.
Your English is fine, if the second chapter does well enough we'll be fortunate enough to get the third. I hope you can commit to learning Japanese, because I'm sure it'll benefit you in the future. Playing Japanese version with a walkthrough could work..But It's really easy to spoil upcoming plot points. I'll hope with you that it'll come out in the next six months.
"Does not include remakes".... ahhh! So THAT is why LUNAR is not number 1!! :D Nice list! The PSP had so many awesome RPGs. I wished that so many of them, not to mention DS RPGs, had been "proper" games on the PS3 or 360 instead. At least I will be able to play my unplayed PSP games on the big screen with my PLAYSTATION VITA TV! Once I figure out how to hack it to play ISO's of my games. I do not fancy buying digital versions of all my games! They are so bloody expensive on the Japanese store! I am hoping that companies will finally get back to making proper RPGs again, the likes of which we had on the PS2, on the PS4. Star Ocean 5 looks to be a damn good start! Not to mention the new NIER and newly formed RPG team's mystery game! I wonder if it will be based on Gestalt or the PS3 version, the name of which escapes me at the moment? Loved Gestalt on the 360, never DID open the PS3 game ^_^; MEGA-CD LUNAR TSS and EB are my number one favourite games of all time along with Grandia on the Saturn. I was hugely disappointed by the Saturn remake of TSS, barely played the GBA version and did not get far into the PSP version, either. I did like what I played of the PSP version far more than the Saturn version. Oct 1996.... I was so excited when I bought "Silver Star Story" on the Saturn after watching it progress and be delayed month after month in my Japanese Saturn Fan magazines. The early mid 1995 version of Burg looked a million times better than what was delivered in the final version :( I was in love and awe for the first 10-15 hours. Then the game started to go down hill for me and by the time I finished it, was completely disappointed. The dialogue in the PSP version was very true to the MEGA-CD version in Burg. I'm talking Japanese here of course, not that abomination that those hacks working designs called a "translation"... UGH!
A Shaw Should i get a PSP or DS for some RPGs? And should i be playing JRPGs at all? I like story driven games, and i like to be able to sit and think about my next move, so JRPGs seem to fit my preferences. However i have been having a hard time with them for no fault of the game. First game i played was Final Fantasy 8, PC port, which broke when i replaced GPU in my PC more than a decade ago. But i did finish it. It was nice. Then i got Chrono Trigger and a SNES, but kept losing battery backed saves, and finally lost the cartridge and console. Didn't finish. Then i got Chrono Trigger on my phone. Lost the phone. Now i am playing it again and put savegame file on backup schedule and cloud sync, so hopefully i can finish it. But i need to finish it multiple times, no? I also had Grandia 2 on my PC, which had video issues and bugs, and 2 distinct copies for Dreamcast which failed to read the disc past one or another point. It was a very good title though. I also had Septerra Core, PC port, but i somehow got annoyed with it quarter way through. I think the writing wasn't very exciting and i hate it when characters quit my party and run off with their inventory. I have Final Fantasy 12 too, but every time i think i want to play it i attach the debugger/profiler instead and stare at it wasting CPU time not performing very well, thinking whether i should throw a 500$ Haswell at it to run better, or whether i should try to fix performance bugs in a game that i bought expensively. And it looks shiny but is somehow meh, perhaps not exciting enough writing.
+Siana Gearz the DS had a few good jrpg.....Sands of destruction, radiant historia, tales of innocence, kingdom hearts, a lot more but i didn't get to play them
Indeed. They both had some great RPG's. I still get a little pissed off when I think of some of the RPG's that were wasted on the DS hardware instead of being a full PS3 or 360 game :(
love that you put spectral souls as #1, i've played tactics ogre, final fantasy tac, and most all the psp srpgs and spectral souls has the #1 spot for me hands down. If your taste are similar here are some you may like: --phantom brave, hermuda triangle --makai kingdom (recently translated to eng by fans) --wild arms xf --phantasy star port 2 --blazing souls accelate (fan translated but nowhere near ss1)
games that are exclusive, yet you listed several remakes/ports? Mystic Chronicles--iOS/Android, Growlanser 4: Wayfarer of Time--PS2, Spectral Souls--PS2 (horrific load times due to the poor quality port too, like most other Neverland series games that got ported) surprised you didn't choose ones like PopoloCrois or Brave Story. :) fun list regardless dude.
+Erick Landon ty for the awesome list while. i do disagree with some of them like ys (i just can't relate to the gameplay) it is your taste and i'm glad you shared it. don't mind the haters and trolls! you should also consider trying gungnir for the more advanced RPGer in you :)
Ys 7 is the best RPG ive played in the PSP so far, then again I dont really like majority the RPGs that PSP have so yea idk. I dont like chibi stuff ,I rather more mature character type of game. I gonna try Jeanne D'arc, seems the characters arent stupidly infant and the game seems hard enough for what ive seems on forums and etc. Hope dont get disappointed again
@John Hicks yea, seems the part where l said "ON THE PSP" and "SO FAR" didnt let very clear I got the PSP recently huh? Anyways, l'd love to debate with u about it but sincerely, idrc. I'm too old to be arguing with haters on youtube. You have a good day.
Cool list. I would have put Growlancer or Legend of Heroes as my #1 if I actually made a list but I'm too lazy lol. I will have to check out Spectral Souls. What song was playing when you showed it?
Growlanser IV is one hard game, what with all those nasty mission. It also features all those badass responses you can choose (the one about surgery with Leona always makes me laugh). And the best: insane replay value.
RocksyCloud :: Hey dude//dudette, thanks for the video. I'm sitting here at 7AM looking for great RPG's to play on my PS Vita (Have been since I bought it on launch date, lol). The library has expanded vastly to include both PSP and PS One Classics. Knowing this, is it possible for you to make another video that contains the top 10 best RPG's (Well I Mean your TOP 10, considering everyone else will have their own TOP 10 list) ? I all because based on the titles you picked here, you have extremely similar taste in RPG's as I do. Everyone is always looking for that "next FFVII" (you grasp my meaning? As in any game that shares a similar system as FFVII) but it looks like you, just like myself, have a much more broad spectrum of what is considered an enjoyable RPG. So, do you think you can make that happen? The library of PS One//PSP//PS Vita games is just too vast for me to get a grip on it but my plan is to fill my cart with all the titles I want and just buy them all at the same time lol.
Sorry for the late reply. Well, I made a TOP PS1 BEST RPGs video... It should be around here somewhere, in my channel most likely. And if you have similar tastes to mine, then we should get along just fine (:
I can go on and on about good games lol. But you're limited if you want to play them on your Vita because most of the games I have in mind are not even available in the PSN store. Suikoden 2 is one of the best RPGs ever made and it's coming to the PSN store in a few days. Make sure to get it!
just recently picked up a game called disgea for psp on accident i meant to get dissidia. almost took it back but then i started playing it...shit is nutts!
Disgaea D2 is actually more recent than Disgaea 4. Anyways, Disgaea have tons of replay ability, you would be playing it for months if you're a perfectionist.
bit late but well you see Growlanser 4 is not exclusive PSP either. it used to be another PS2 game. it only out in japan though which might explain the fact that you missed it
I've thought of giving Ragnarok Tactics a try since it's like 8 bucks on PSN now. I think the Generation of Chaos and Spectral Souls games are cheap as well which I've considering trying even though their reception is bad.
I was looking for some RPGs to play, and this video game me an idea of what to look for. Didn't know Ys was in PSP! I just have a question: Usually NIS games are (for me) long and boring, I mean hours of lvgrinding constantly, poor story, and so, like Disgaea. I am currently playing ZHP Unlosing Ranger vs Darkdeath Evilman, and I hate myself because now I want to clear it, but I don't like spending tons of hours training and training and training...Is Spectral Souls like that???
+luclarkno9 Don't know but I'm going to have to correct you on "poor story" The Disgaea games are humorous games (like a lot of NIS games) so the story isn't going to be as good as say, Chrono Trigger. But Disgaea 2 actually had a pretty kickass awesome story.
Actually, Spectral Souls from PSP is a port from PS2 Spectral Souls II, Growlanser Wayfarer of time is a port from Growlanser IV also from PS2, Mystic Chronicles is a remake from Fantasy Chronicles from iOS and The Legend of Heroes: Trails in The Sky for PSP is a port from PC version. All things said and done, there are some really good games on your list.
Hello. Actually, the game's loading time IS slow, so it's normal and there's nothing you can do about it. But if it's really taking too long, then I have no clue what to do. Is it original or is it an ISO?
Publishedreamypoet can u save its game data to the Memory Stick? if so try that... it helped with Dissidia 012. it allows the PSP to read the game data from 2 areas rather then just one (UMD) so it may help if so if not i have no clue... i know the game data save feature didnt come about til way late in the PSPs life cycle.
+Nick Howe if you read the description, this is his list and didn't want to include remakes...... Lunar is a remake, FF tactics was a remake, Star Ocean 1 and 2 was also a remake,
+RosesAreBlack The title "best PSP games" trumps your description. He/she chose no remakes. I chose games including remakes. and FFT:WotL has added voiced cutscenes and a few extras; hardly qualifies as a remake. I'm surprised you took the time to enforce YOUR rules.
Phantasy star 2 3 4 are on Megadrive, all great, especially the 4th which is fantastic but the 2nd really got old. After the 4th one in 1994 they moved to the online stuff and the alys ( phantasy star 1) story arc got closed for good. I think they also made one on game Gear but not sure
@@NihilistAlien 2 was really good, 3 was meh. I do like how the different lineages make replaying the game seem more fun. But life got busy when i started on 4 so I'm looking forward to it
i use my psp primarily for the first two star oceans, breath of fire 3 , suikoden 1 and 2 , and my number one is tactics ogre. i love me some tactics ogre. oh and my import robot wars games.
No Tales of Destiny 2, nor Tales of Rebirth, nor Tales of Phantasia X? Sad face. I also kinda liked Final Fantasy Crysis Core, and Final Fantasy Type 0. Maybe also Persona 3 Portable.
One of the very first games I thought of. However, I wanted to make an exclusive PSP games list, and since Persona 3 is originally a PS2 game, it kind of didn't count for me. Nonetheless, I loved the PS2 version.
Well, uh... I know it's your opinion but.. Would you please add more Turn-Based RPGs ? Cuz most of your list are Tactic RPGs. Also... Give us some gameplay videos, instead of cheap slideshow.
Marlon Navarro There's a website where you can find most RPG's, but it's in spanish. Here is the link: juegospspfree.blogspot.mx/2011/05/listado-alfabetico-de-juegos.html
Silver Star Harmony doesn't hold up as well against Silver Star Story Complete. far too easy. :) same with Eternal Blue Complete even holding grounds above it. :) and as Kevin says also, both Lunar Silver Star and Eternal Blue were Sega CD games (then PS1 remakes--which SS saw ports/easy versions made to GBA and PSP)
Most of these are hidden gems somewhat, but this was something I made 4 years ago. I might remake this video soon, with gameplay footage and narration.
