If you aren't subscribed to this channel I have no clue what your doin with your life! lol This channel is by far one the most underrated, knowledgable tutorial channels on this platform. Thank you!!!!
I have 5 solid WIPs that I cycle through whenever I feel stuck on one. I think that’s really important instead of beating yourself up over one particular piece. But personally , “the quantity over quality” part is what I struggle with to some extent. I can never finish anything because deep down I know it can be better and it usually does get better so I keep digging lol
XLNT are some OG’s. I’m now saturated subbed on 3 of my RU-vid accounts. These tips are fire especially Danny’s special inclination to get producers naked.. beautiful thing. Thanks guys!
I really like these videos where you focus on creativity and overall song structure! The A,B,A,C refrence is killer, always did just ABAB and it can get repetative. One of my personal favorite tips i learned from Jauz on buildups is to add some high pass EQ sweeps or Endless Smile, makes your drops hit so much harder!
Swear down, you guys are one of the few channels that make music production videos that are actually helpful. Thanks for this and keep up the great work :)
My tip to the XLNT Community. Be well rested. Take plenty of breaks to give your ears a rest. A little snooze helps clear the mind and reset your ears. During mixing use multiple reference tracks to compare your mix. The instruments you choose may programmed different than your reference track. Compare often.
Tip 5 really hit me. I'm very unorganized when it comes to working with a template. I just have a master and when I bus and/or put stuff together I do it from scratch. Perfectly put guys!
Great video guys very inspirational, I'm a beginner bedroom producer and finding all this stuff super useful, thank you guys, look forward to your future videos!
"If you're good at finger bangin" Thanks guys! The jamming tip is essential. If I get stuck I'll let the track play and then where it's supposed to drop just start beatboxing/making weird noises to what I think should come next and build on that. Keep crushing it guys
I always find myself being able to write decent intros and builds that i spend a lot of time on but it’s been really hard to build a drop that has the same level of production as the intro so this is a really helpful video. I definitely need to use that cheat code on separating sound design and writing because i a lot think of sounds i want to try to make and spend way to much time trying to create the sounds I’m thinking. Also the putting a creative block seems like a super helpful tip not get caught up on tons of different sounds and elements just get a basis and then starting to add in some of those other elements that might work.
you guys are straight comedy always thank you. i'm definitely going to start setting the vibe more when i write music. one of my cheat codes is when i make a drop and i listen to it and i get up and start physically dancing or fake moshing to it then im on to something
That is so true about abandoning your art, being calm of it and just move on the next project, wish it could be easyer to be coldblooded about it and stop having stupid thoughts
love you boys ♥ One of my fav tips you did on another vid was extracting groove from a reference track or sample or anything. And then the fact that extracting groove gets you the velocity as well as the rhythm 😈 just write drums / synths on the grid, bang that groove on there and boom, it's alive.
I am so grateful for the amazing content you guys put out. I learn so much from your videos! thanks for everything you do!!! My favorite tip is quantity over quality, especially starting out as a producer. It is crucial to continue growing as an artist!
Organization is so important. Keep your synths, audio effects, samples close at hand. But organization also applies to your projects. Keep a nicely organized collection of your nascent projects -- the fun 8-bar loops that you never finished. Keep them somewhere that you can revisit them from time to time. I like to go back to my most recent 5-10 projects after a few weeks, open them up, see what I like, and what I don't like (with fresh ears), then mess around with them a little bit. Find a way to make each one a little better. Then save them (if you're really tearing up the original, maybe save a new version). But one of these times, you'll open up one of those old projects, and it will be inspiring enough for you to try to turn it into a track!
Great video. I like to put a random sample on an arp and automate it till I like the rhythm. Then record the midi after the arp and these midi notes can be assigned to samples or synths and you didnt have to decide where each sound should go.
If I so happen to be the lucky winner. You can give Cartel 3 to the next dude. Ive already bought Cartel 3 and I love it. But I will gladly take Drops 1 and 2.
you can use loops as a guide. for example take a bass loop (or drop loop ) from a sample pack. copy the rhythm of the drops (think it as a hi-hat loop) then make your own sound design to your taste and done ideally you should change the note lenght here and there tho.
I would like a more technical version of this video, i mean this is very instructive but it's mainly theory Wich is important but i think you can give ton of amazing practical tips to write drops
Using Location Flags & naming them 1A 2A 3A 4A for each bar as 1st 4 bars giving them each a color & 1B 2B 3B 4B on the next 4 bars to help generate an initial structure. It’s more organized to swap certain parts around & build with similar to LEGOs. XLNT when you releasing Lego movie inspired Sample Pack?
On the workflow front, I am constantly tweaking my templates. Whenever I try something new in a track that I think should be on my template, I write it down - don't stop working on the track! - and then later at the end of my session, I will open my template up, add the new whatever, and save it back out.
first of all, do your build-up and automate the master gain slowly down around -3db and slowly automate it to be a bit mono-ish. with the first hit of the drop , put it back to 0db and full stereo to instant bigger drops.
