I've never really understood the hate "One-Hit Wonders" get... people really must not understand what an achievement it is to have a number one song and how rare that is. Most musicians can only dream to be a one-hit wonder.

It’s a man-bashing song. I’ll tell you why. The lyric of the song says, "The party was nice, the party was pumpin.'" When I said the word "party" I was being metaphorical. It really means things were going great. The "Yippie-Yi-Yo," that’s everybody’s happy, right? "And everybody was having a ball." Life was going great. "Until the men start the name-callin’ / And then the girls respond to the call." So the men started calling the women “skank” and “skettel,” every dirty word you can think of. The men started the name-calling and then the girls respond to the call. And then a woman shouts out, “Who let the dogs out?” And we start calling men dogs. It was really a man-bashing song.

If I remember correctly, he was also very young when he and the guitarist started playing together, yet he more or less had that voice. He also looks much younger than he is (or he did. I'm not sure what he looks like now.) I was a freshman in college when that song came out and I remember thinking "he's just a little kid! How does he have that voice already?!" Then I found out that he's a couple years older than me, lol. I thought he looked like a sophomore in high school.

I don't think one hit wonders even exist anymore. Most mainstream music is so horrendous the audience has lowered their standards, and "artists" who should be disappearing after one song linger around and become "stars".

Sarah H Kind of agree, but...The exposition at the start of the song is basically saying that guys in the club were acting like dogs, so women were shouting "Who let the dogs out?"...the dudes got offended, and were told "It's all part of the party"...then at the bridge, the singer states that he's a dog as well (in confusing writing) "If I was a dog, can't see color, any color will do, I'll stick on you, that's why they call me pitbull" etc. The way I see it, is he's basically saying, get them around women and guys will act like dogs, and women realize this. It may be a call for men to act better, but for the most part just seems to be a catchy way of pointing out what we already know.

I’ve been with my husband for nearly 20 years, ‘wherever you will go’ was probably our first ‘us’ song. I had the CD and quite often it would go missing, only to turn up in his car when we went on a date. It may be a one hit wonder, but all these years and three kids later, I will still go wherever he goes 🥰

They'd end the song with a kiss, which made them highly controversial, because American TV programs that would feature them would ask them not to do their famous kiss, and they'd do it anyway. Yeah, usually the last year of a decade always manages to merge into the first of the following decade. This is why some people mistake some things from the late 80s with the early 90s, and late 90s with early 2000s and so on. (Sometimes people weren't even born at the time so, they have to rely on what outside sources say. Or, if like myself (I was a teenager then), one may remember things clearly but not in complete absolute order as they occurred.) Sometimes I have to refer to Google to put some chronological order to my memories of things. lol Like, Santana's Supernatural feels more 2000s-ish to me but it was released in 1999. And Linkin Park's Hybrid Theory always feels more 90s-ish to me, but it was released in the year 2000 (late* 2000 at that). Y'know. It happens.

"Frommage Factor" LOL! An excellent addition to my lexicon. Thanks! What catches my attention about "Graduation" is that it is a straight-up lyrical cover of Pachelbel's "Cannon in D Major." This classical piece was notably covered back in 2005 by Jerry Chang as the instrumental "Canon Rock" and is such a fine and stirring composition it captures the attention however it is treated.

Great story... My sister came home for Thanksgiving from college and told us about a band her and her friends hung out with after a concert on their campus called “Crazytown”. She said the lead singer (Seth Binzer) kept telling her they were going to be huge and that they were dropping their first single in a month... She says she didn’t really give him the time of day, but one of her friends ended up banging dude and he gave them autographed copies of a rough cut of their album. Sure enough they ended up having that smash single “Butterfly”. She still has that cd to this day. 😂😂

I dont know about you but most of these songs brought back sweet memories of my childhood. Many of these songs still stay with me to the tune of a hum or verse in my head. cheesy perhaps some of them, but many are huge successes and i for one loved trying to figure out who let those damn dogs out the entire summer of 2000.
