Cujo H I disagree, the ones who wouldn't want to go outside would still stay in. Those who really like to go outside use every chance to do so. But it is easier to stay inside and talk virtualy and also do other things virtualy that I agree, but it is as much of a good thing as it is a bad one. That is my opinion, I do respect your opinion.
Cujo H My friend used to come out and have fun outside all the time, until one day when he discovered Xbox Live (my fault I should have never got him to play Halo). Ever since then he's become a grumpy fuck and won't do anything anymore except eat and game.
He did a lot of things, both good and not so good. The SALT (Strategic Arms Limitation Treaty) was enacted during his Presidency as well as the "softening" of relations with China and the USSR. If he'd stuck to Foreign Policy he might be remembered as one of the better Presidents. But when he got into Domestic Affairs he sank deep into the mire of his paranoia and prejudice.

I believe you should have included Bruce Lee in this list as well. He changed action cinema with Enter the Dragon, popularized martial across America, and helped improve the view of Chinese among Americans.
Seriously, compared with what other Presidents have done since, Watergate is laughable in it's vilification. It wouldn't even make my top 10 list of "worst things Presidents have done".
HarryBillyBobGeorge I minored in history in college, and am fascinated with European and Russian history, far more than American history. And yes I was born in the U.S.
When my dear mother took me (age 6), my sister and brother to see "Star Wars", it was more than a movie, it was an event. I must have been bedazzeled at what I was seeing back then. Rest In Peace mom, and thank you for everything.
Top 10 Defining Moments of 1970s America. 12.10.24. I was thinking about peak moments during one's formative years...the reference points one keeps returning back to: King Kong, star wars, sex pistols, motorhead, young ones, the shining, evil dead, Jaws... to name a few. my era, informing my opinion, isn't specifically 1970's based...but the 70's is to the fore.
I have 4 favorite things that started in the 1970's. 1: Greg Page was born in January 1972 and joined The Wiggles in 1991. 2: Kings Island opened in April 1972. 3: Star Wars released in theaters on May 25th 1977. 4: Chuck E Cheese's Pizza Time Theatre opened May 17th 1977.
Thanks to Nixon opening that door with China we have been inundated with crappy, poorly made and sometimes dangerous products. If the major department stores were to suddenly have everything made in China disappear from their shelves there would be scant little left and what is left would still be 90% or so NOT made in the US. What a shame. I missed the Vietnam war by 1 month (US Navy) and the Bee Gees are to this day my all time favorite band. For me, listening to 1970's disco always turns a frown around, lol.
That was an unfortunate byproduct but Nixon, of all people, really thawed Cold War tensions. It's hard to remember that now that the Cold War has been over for 25 years, but back then that was way more important than shitty products.
I love Star Wars and Jaws, great movies. My mum was born in the 60s and grew up in the 70s. She watched Jaws in the drive in theatre and also saw Star Wars in the theatres too. She’s lucky to experience the 60s and 70s they were great times

Watchmojo.com u r one of the fav channels on youtube and u being canadian make more videos about americans . Can u pls give more emphasis on the world rather than a single country. Love your work from top 10s to origins to biographies. Great work and keep it up
#8: "Star Wars Takes Us To A Galaxy Far,Far Away" When its 20th anniversary was celebrated, and there were all the obligatory reminiscences, tributes and so forth, there was one other thing about the film that nobody brought up...it's the first American sci-fi film that had absolutely nothing to do with Earth,or people from Earth,in the future. Boy,how times have changed...walk into any general merchandise store today around late April, and they've already got action figures of characters from the upcoming summer's sci-fi/fantasy flicks. The first "Star Wars" came out in the summer of '77,yet by Christmas of that year, there were still no action figures in the stores. Can you say "early bird gift certificate"?
IDK, May 4, 1970 I was at Kent State University. We heard Nixon's address I think it was Friday evening. He said he was getting us out of Vietnam and then we found he was expanding the war into Cambodia. He called it an "incursion" rather than an invasion. We just went out and sat in the middle of a state highway blocking traffic for miles. They had a helicopter hover over top of us creating a whirlwind where we all had to stay down. Then the next day somebody lit a small wooden ROTC barracks on fire and it burned down. Then the National Guard came in and we were peacefully protesting for them to get off our campus when they opened fire. My roommate's girlfriend, Allison Krause, was one of those killed. "4 Dead in Ohio," Neil Young sang. That was a pretty defining moment for a lot of us hippies and peace protesters.
Hey WatchMojo, do a "Top 10 Career Launching Performances By Actors." A list of acting performances that actors first did before they were well known that put their career on a fast track to success and overall fame.
Disco was really more an East Coast thing. Classic rock and country dominated the rest of the country. Civil rights in sports began in the ´40s and really came into its own in the ´60s with Mays and Aaron among many others in baseball, Jim Brown and many others in football and Bill Russell and Chamberlain and many many others in basketball. Maybe you should hire researchers who were born before 1985 if you want to do these historical things...
jonn mace The 1990's were in no way better then the decade of decadence. Just because your first kiss happened in the 90's doesn't make it the best decade.
MrBarlion You're right. I do have to admit in my biased perspective that the 1990s is my favorite decade with the 1980s being a very close second. I was born in the 80s and had experienced a decent portion of it but I grew up mostly in the 90s.
My sister and I were kids during the 70's and she went out and brought the soundtrack to Saturday Night Fever from a local record store for about $10 and played it to death till everyone in the house got sick of it.
As a big tennis nerd, I have to correct the idea that Arthur Ashe dominated the tennis rankings. He's my favorite of all time, so nothing against him, but it was Jimmy Connors and Bjorn Borg who dominated tennis rankings in the 1970's. Sorry WatchMojo. Do more research next time! Still a great video
What you most likely miss is what you imagine how it must have been to be an adult in the 70s. This also would imply being born before the early 50s... be careful what you wish for.
XmarkedSpot Everybody grows old. It's just a matter of how great was the era you lived in. People born in the 50's were very lucky to have been teens during Beatlemania instead of Bieber Fever.
After looking up the top 10 rappers of all time I've noticed that u guys haven't made one yet, u should consider making that and top 10 rappers of 2013
The death of Elvis, i mean no celebrity death has ever made an impact in culture to this day. Anyway born in the 70s here, 1977 to be exact, good year I'd say :p
A lot of African American music was really started being played on AM & FM radio, blacks started to write their own music, as well as play it, in which lead to a lot of dance records, that had good bass & rhythm, the record companies capitalize on this trend, & called it Disco!!
I think the order might be fine. We had never seen anything like Star Wars before. Those who were not born then have no idea about the excitement and not knowing what was going to happen in the time between SW and ESB. Also people can bash disco but the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack is amazing and that time period is amazing.
What is it with Watchmojo and Star Wars? They keep talking about how great it is and really favouring it in all sorts of countdowns. They treat it likes it's the greatest thing since indoor plumbing. Damn, it was good but not THAAAAAAAT good.
They may talk about it a lot but it's not the movie they talk about the most. To them, Almost every list concerning movies has to have fucking The Dark Knight in it.
Not even gonna say who released the Pentagon Papers? it was Daniel Ellsburg and I am happy to say I had the honor of hearing him speak to my school. Star Wars loses its glamor when you find out about all the dirty secrets such as the reason for Obi-Wan dying was because the actor who played him hated the role intensely.
I understand what you're saying about star wars - but many iconic movie scenes... and movies themselves have been changed vastly over reasons such as that.. or even more miniscule. But as daniel ellsburg, that's great you got to meet him. Thanks for the comment, I got a good read looking him up and reading about PPapers
Did you know that the plot-point of Marty's father's death in Back to the Future Part II was due to the fact that Crispin Glover's returning fee to the franchise was too high for Zemeckis and Gale to pay? BOOM That movie has now been ruined for you.
Did you know that all THREE main actors in Jaws thought they had made the biggest piece of shit before it was released? You can even see a old interview with Richard Dreyfuss bad mouthing the film before it's release on the "special features" on the "Jaws" DVD. BOOM That movie has now been ruined for you.
I would go as far as saying in my opinion that the 70's generation embraced the greatest Movies, Music, fashionn and drugs.I will probably get a lot of "experts" chiming in on this one, but again nothing touches the 70's in my opinion:)
Ichigo? Optimus Prime?...Eren? Whose got the most AWESOME transformation. Make sure your favorite reaches the top .....VOTE!!! "Top 10 Transformations in an Animated Series": www.watchmojo.com/suggest/Top+10+Transformations+in+an+Animated+Series
undoubtedly Star Wars was in it's day a groundbreaking film, and it has had a huge impact on film history, i don't get why people are so in love with it and calling it a masterpiece. It features lackluster acting, yes i'm in particularly looking at Luke, but the rest of the cast isn't exactly shining. It features cliché, low-budget-style dialogue (i know the movie itself wasn't low budget, but the dialogue was often like out of a 50 000$ c-horror film). It features lackluster story setup riddled with sub-stories that could've been and should've been significantly flushed out, but instead was replaced by overemphasizing story lines that had less to tell, and by adding unnecessary action-sequences that never really peaked as the adrenaline-fueled thrill-rides they could've been
***** I get that, but that still doesn't justify calling it a masterpiece or even calling it a good movie. There are things i enjoy because of nostalgia and fond memories, but i know that they aren't actually "good" from a critics perspective. example vise i can mention some old western flicks and PS1/PS2 titles. Most notably, James Bond: Everything or Nothing. It's quite a lackluster game, but it was my very first shooter game, and one of my first PS2 games, in a time when i had quite few, thusly i think fondly of the game, even though i know it's riddled with flaws
Thomas Torrissen Yeah i usually recognize when i'm notstolgic for something or biased. Since you brought up gaming i have a good gaming example. I love gaming i play just about every game that comes out to my console of choice and i will get other consoles this gen at some point maybe the summer. But i am still nostalgic for alot of movie tie in games i played as a kid even though if played them know i'm sure i would know they are bad. Things like Shrek games and Spongebob games i'm nostalgic for. A game i'm biased for came out last year is Deadpool, I'm a big Deadpool fan and the game was hilarious and did a great job at the character and did a good job with the X-men characters they used and villians.Yes non comic fans usually reviewed it with say a 6 saying the gameplay was bad which i don't agree with i had no problem with the gameplay i thought it was alot of fun it's not Batman Arkham type gameplay but it was still really fun. So i still disagree with reviews that said the gameplay is bad other then that i haven't seen many other valid complaints for the game but i do recognise i'm biased towards it. There were some thing i would change like i would've added being able to use costume in the main game not just challenge maps but still overall i loved the game and it probbably is in my top 10 of last year. For movies i don't really have many nostolgics because i mostly watched animated movies when i was a kid and most of the ones i liked are considered good movies like Dreamworks and Pixar. I guess some Adam Sandler movies i may be nostalgic for because i found them funny as a kid and still do so that might be nostolgia either that or they are actually funny like big daddy and billy madison.
All those cliché's you speak of... Starwars invented them first. You are wrong about sub-plots, in the original film, there are none. Acting is more or less opinion as you can't really say how people should react in those situations anyway. The plot was as basic as they come, and that is what made it great. The pacing is great, and the action sequences were great at the time. The only reason you could argue they aren't now is because the films since then have been deliberately designed to out do starwars.
spartacus3111 Star Wars is the kind of huge universe where there should've been flushed out sub-plots, but as you put if yourself, there are none, and anyone who thinks the Star Wars movies have "great pacing" seriously needs to watch more movies. Also, as far as acting goes, the only thing that's a matter of subjective personal opinion when it comes to acting, is wether or not you like the acting choices. The personality the actor choose. In Star Wars several characters are played with what is just downright terrible acting performances. little to no emotion, weird delivery and in general unconvincing acting. The better an acting performance is, the less you can tell the person is acting. You are supposed to forget you are watching a guy acting, and truly believe that character exists. That's what makes a great acting performance, and Star Wars isn't even close to doing that. Naturally, poor acting is both the actors and the directors fault
