You need a rope for the stool so you can use it when you are alone.

Thanks for the experienced based tips. I love how Chad says: "oh I just put something together really quick". Many very impressive and ingenious solutions that may serve as inspiration for people like myself.

That step that's welded into the passenger side, I think it would benefit from a rounded corner rather than the sharp corner. That could really tear you up in a misstep. 🇦🇺

nice video guys - sounds like you learned a lot, and more importantly, did something about it lol! Love the fact that you're making it work and have usable temp solutions so you can get out and enjoy the Mog!

I've seen this video a bit out of context and don't know how much heavy / fast offroading you've done but I would go ahead and use i.e. a forklift or maybe two to flex the Unimog to it's maximum and see if there is anything in the way, rubbing etc. Because you have to remember, the Unimog is capable of a lot, but this fire engine didn't need to be that capable. With the huge water Tank (did it have a PTO driven Pump), etc you just can't go as crazy and you don't need to. You also don't need to go as far with a fire truck. So in one of your travels it might sees more and harder offroad driving than it ever did as a fire truck. Hence the design is usually also only made for those purposes, because the tank and the long cab limit the abilities. So I would check how far I can go or were i could improve so you doesn't end up with a broken throttle linkage or something like that. A side note to that: Your cab probably has those little hinges in front to tilt it up. Never leave them engaged when driving, they can ruin your cab. Another tip I have to order a original and complete Workshop manual from "Buch und Bild" online. They have English version and are licensed by Mercedes. So if anything goes wrong you at least know how to fix it or how to get to it.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I like how you solved the problem of getting the dogs and yourself in the cab. Our GSD has the same issue, she doesn't like to be carried up into the camper box of our 1979 U1300L. Would you mind to share the brand of the foil you used to tint the glass? Also would like to connect with you guy - maybe we can get on a trip together?

Thanks Wilhelm. The tint was done by a local shop I really like and they use Llumar Window Film. You can email me at chad@mogsanddogs.org if you want to talk more.
