Hot take here, I find van Halen to be wildly overrated. Like ok you can play really fast and tap the neck, but like, where's the soul? Anyone can practice scales and make noises. Plus in every interview he acted for all the world like he invented the guitar and came off as an arrogant prick.

Kirk hammet doesnt fit anywhere on any of the criterias they list, so kerry king probably is a better pick compared to him in that sense, but kerry king is still not a very good guitarist. And then seeing van halen, yea, this list is stupid.

Your on CRACK if kirk doesnt deserve a spot ...they have some wrong yes but they had some right..im sure they mean metal most people know...or originators...you must be young..cause i grew up in the metal movement in the 80s and i remember the reactions of when some of these people debuted....i think your missing the point...heavy metal? James Hetfield is one of the true game changers of rhythm guitar in metal and is undoubtedly one of its best songwriters. To exclude him from a list like this is travesty. Also Jeff Hanneman wrote all of Slayer's classics. Picking Kerry King over him shows nothing but ignorance. Watchmojo is nowpretty much a bad joke that has went on for too long without a punchline.

@@ChucksterOLove now that's an exaggeration... I'll give you Kerry King. Hanneman had more of an influence. But to have no other member of the big 4 in this list is ridiculous. For all the shit that hammet gets, he's still influential and wrote both master and sandman riffs which whether you like it or not, has done more for metal than most guitarists. Ian himself is one the best writers as well. It's pure hater energy here.

When asked Dave Mustaine, if they were “into each other’s gear” or if they had different approach or philosophies on the instruments, Dave said that “I did not”, because he thinks that Dimebag was so much better then him. Dave Mustaine: “I did not. He may have, because he was a better guitar player than I am, and he was much more into that stuff. And with Darrell, when you look at his playing, he’s a monster. He’s one of those guys that in trios, with the bottom dropping out, he was really able to keep that going."

complicarted riffs is a sign of poor songwriting , great players can simplify stuff. Hetfield sings better and is a great riff writer, Mustaine above Iommi is laughable or Rhoads Mustaine was never the best guitar player in his own band from a technical stand point

Definitely happy seeing EVH, Dime, Randy (RIP all three of them), Kirk and Tony on here, those guys are definitely some of my biggest influences in terms of heavy metal guitarists though I'm surprised that Daron Malakian from System of a Down wasn't included, sure his playing isn't the most "technical" but his playing style is still iconic nonetheless and plus he's written a lot of damn good riffs

He's literally the man who created thrash metal with Accept in 1981 when they released Fast As A Shark on their Restless & Wild album and then helped create neo-classical metal alongside Yngwie Malmsteen with legendary cuts like Princess Of The Dawn and Metal Heart. Accept's releases from 1980 until 1986 are some of the most well rounded stylistic and anc compositional albums of the entire genre.
