Dr. Doom's literally one of the best villains in comic books ever. He has interesting and sad backstory, he's a legit threat to entire teams or even universes full of incredibly powerful characters and he's all around badass, but also a good guy when he wants to be. Doom is literally the kind of villain you end up rooting for! I mean, what other villain constantly fights the forces of hell to rescue his mother's soul, combines the magic with science and technology, rules a nation like a benevolent ruler, and casually tells gods, abstract entities and all around omnipotent beings to bow before him AND SUCK IT!? Doctor motherfucking Doom that's who!
WayneAnime Right that's why they are revamping the story in the upcoming Secret Wars series right? Dude annihilated 1/2 of the universe with a snap. All for love. How more complex is anything more complex than love and what people will do to obtain it.
TipsyGipsy Games Also how could he be significant since then. He basically turned over the Gauntlet because he was unstoppable by anyone in the Marvel universe save for TLT. And even then TLT would not intervene seeing as there was no cosmic unbalance with what Thanos was doing. That should be rendered number one. Heroes and Villains were brought to bring him down. That's a pretty badass Supervillain if you ask me.
Seriously? Lol because doing evil things because you are just plain evil shows such complexity and isn't cliche at all. The reason half of the life was restored was because Thanos defeated the living embodiment of the universe and became it himself, separating himself from his vulnerable body. I don't mean to argue about complex villains, because I love all of Spiderman's enemies more so than lots. But to say Thanos isn't complex and quite frankly one of the most powerful Marvel villains is absolutely asinine.
Kingpin isn’t on this list? This man is one of the most threatening villains of the whole comic book history, he is an iconic and complex villain, been a threat to Matt Murdocks life, and also has been a threat to Spider-Man. And Red Skull isn’t on this list either? This man is probably one of the most threatful villains and has been a big threat to Cap’s life.
@@darkseidwavyy Daredevil spiderman and cap are powerful but these villains have all nearly or have destroyed planets so they r not the BEST villains although they r cool
I'm surprised Donald Trump isn't on this list. Marvel did parody him with Loki running for president, with Modaak being redesigned to look like him, and the half-mexican spiderman of the future worrying about Trump winning.
Grant Mueller I can't believe that someone agrees with me that Ultron isn't there! #RIPOFF! He should have atleast replaced one of the Spiderman Villains! And he deserves to be up there! And why is "The Abomination" up there in the honerable mentions?! What I think watchmojo.com should do is a poll on "The Top 10...." when it comes to iconic villains and superheroes?! I'M REALLY PISSED OFF THAT ULTRON DIDN'T MAKE IT!!!!!!!!
I agree with you Venom is cool, Carnage is more popular and aggressive in my understanding of it. They used a lot of spidy 3 footage for venom, was not a fan of that.
Galactus is not a villain... he is a cosmic entity beyond mortal ethics performing his biological function, while we have to die for that to happen... it's not a malicious intent on his part.
You'd think being so obsessed with Death, that you'd go on the most epic of cosmic quest in search for the infinity gems, to wipe out all the life in the universe, would be the most interesting, iconic and complex. But nope, not according to watchmojo.
WayneAnime His origin is pretty f***ing interesting/comlpex imo. He had an insatiable thirst for knowledge that led him on a scientific rampage of autopsies and conquest. I'm obviously leaving out a lot, but you should check it out.
WayneAnime thats what they say, but they rarely ever do that........just watch videos like "top 10 swords in a game" or videos related to games overall....
I think the list is reasonable given the decades of history a top 10 list has to work with. I personally don't think of characters like Tombstone, Bullseye or Sabertooth because they're not top tier. More often than not they haven't been the driving character behind multiple story arcs over the decades, they're not connected to many characters beyond their inner circle and they haven't been developed as well a characters like Magneto, Doom or Osborne.
@@kennethmalone4689 Mysterio has one of the most compelling stories of an everyday man being swallowed by darkness. His bouts with Spider-Man are most notable, but his story vs DareDevil is one of the best. Same could be said for Kraven the Hunter. This list fell short of deciding between "Strongest" and most "well written" villains. If they go by strongest, Carnage > Venom. If they go by well written, Apocalypse and Galactus need to go.
Klookko I thought there was nice depth to him, he's had a delusion of grandeur with a misplaced sense of self-righteousness, the man who trained Batman and the backstory of the League of Shadows was very interesting and powerful. But then again, we're two different people on possibly two different levels.
I consider Doom the first place in this list. He causes trouble for everyone, including Asgard. He built a Destroyer suit using Odin technology and for little don't kill Thor. He mastered the magic, technology and science. The greatest villain of comics, with Lex and Ra's Al Ghul.
But sometimes Galactus does act out of selfish actions not just his need to survive at the expense of the heroes which can make him villainous at times. He's also fought alongside the heroes too more than once though.
Yeah, except even then, some of them were not depicted well in their movies. But it is what brings all these villains here I think. Top 10 Greatest Marvel Supervillains (that also appeared in movies)? Ha.
My Top 10 Marvel Supervillains (read it from 10 to 1): 1)Green Goblin (Norman Osborn, obviously) 2)Thanos 3)Ultron 4)Doctor Doom 5)Magneto 6)Galactus 7)Loki 8)Apocalypse 9)Red Skull 10)Venom Honourable Mentions (read it from the last one to the first one): Kingpin Dark Phoenix Korvac Onslaught Dormammu Doctor Octopus Mister Sinister
+Archangel760 Thanos defeated Hulk by himself. He quested for the Infinity Stones to destroy all life in the universe to impress Death. The battle took the lives of just about every hero in the Marvel Universe. Thanos in the MCU hasn't done jack compared to what he did in the comics.
WayneAnime Yeah the Green Goblin is totally cool and isn't at all a second rate Joker with a crappy "glider" and pumpkin shaped grenades. Norman Osborne is at his best when he wasn't being the Green Goblin.
They are both insane. Their insanity it what defines both of these characters. On top of that the face warping smile is their most prominent physical characteristic. They even have the same major color scheme of green and purple. They both use weapons that don't really look like weapons, acid flower and pumpkin bombs. (I realize there are more but these do will do for the comparison) So yeah you are totally right they are nothing alike.
We aren't talking about "tales" here we are talking about comics and as far as comic characters go Joker may not have been the first but he is the most prominent and only a fool would say otherwise. P.V.C. your comment doesn't deserve a counter point and you know it.
My Personal Top Is: 01. Doctor Doom 02. Magneto 03. Green Goblin 04. Red Skull 05. Ultron 06. Thanos 07. Kingpin 08. Apocalypse 09. Baron Zemo 10. Loki Honorable Mentions: The Skrull, Venom, Dr. Octopus, Hydra, Serpent Society, Winter Soldier, The Mandarin, Enchantress, Surthur, Abomination, Red Hulk, Sabretooth, Mr. Sinister, Bullseye, Klaw, Kang The Conqueror, Annihilus, Dormammu, Mephisto, Kraven The Hunter, Mysterio And Chamaleon.
@@theunknownperson9785 Galactus is more an antagonist than a villain, in the sense that he is a great threat to nature and that if not because of his hunger, he would not cause problems, while the others who are on the list, are characters that have or obtain super powers that cause much constant danger to their rivals (except the Kingpin who is more influence than special powers)
@@thepunisher2232 If those mentions because they are great villains and have caused great stories, but the main ones are the greatest threats in the Marvel universe, in the sense that they are the great masterminds of evil.
Magneto is a no brainer as number 1. 2.Dr;Doom 3.Green Goblin 4.Apocalypse 5.Thanos 6. Dr Octopus 7.Galactus 8.Loki 9.Mr.Sinister 10.Red Skull That's my list.
Don't miss our Top 10 Marvel Superheroes and be sure to check out these other great Top 10s, Top 10 Superhero Sidekicks Top 10 DC and Marvel Copycats Top 10 Marvel Movies
May disagree but my list 10. Kingpin 9. Doctor Octopus 8. Venom 7. Apocalypse 6. Loki 5. Kilgrave/Purple Man (Largely due to Tennant's performance in Jessica Jones) 4. Thanos 3. Green Goblin 2. Magneto 1. Dr. Doom
yeah i do understand that but thanos is beyond evil. he destroyed his whole civilization. he wiped out a part of a galaxy with the infinity gauntlet. but the green goblin who has done bad things. but not as bad was number 2? I mean thanos should be number 2 and doom should be number 1
One More Fun Fact: The Green Goblin was redesigned twice. The first was the first live action Spider-Man movie and the second was in Ultimate Spider-Man. The same went for Doctor Octopus.
Where the fuck is Carnage on this list? You should have atleast put him on the honorable mentions! He's one of the greatest villains of all time and he is no where on this list.
Thanks for reminding me that Spiderman 3 completely failed at bringing my favorite Marvel villain to the big screen. What they did with Venom is unforgivable.
I would have gone with Carnage over Venom; Venom went on to become more of an antihero, while Carnage was a truly evil psychopath who wouldn't exist if it wasn't for Venom...
Doctor Doom is literally the embodiment of evil. When I was little I always thought he was the worst to go against. Now guys like Thanos are the new big bad thanks to the MCU’s popularity.
Thanos has always been the #1 universal threat. Dr Doom even though is awesome is more of a earth level threat... for us comicbook reader Thanos has always been as popular as DOOM probably even more... DOOM is still my number one =3
dude he makes no sense his power are what they want them to be reed is supposed to be smart but can’t do shit that’s how ik anyone who writes for them can’t write anyone and just a make supervillains act hard legit doom is the most basic character ever
Panda Wolf Doom literally took over the entire universe for his own personal gain in the original Marvel Ultimate Alliance game. Thanos only wiped out half the population. What does that tell you? Doom doesn’t give a shit about what he thinks is right or wrong.
Because before loki We had Ian McKellen's magneto and everyone loved him so much and he was the greatest comic villain of all time until the joker and loki took the throne and then Thanos came
shadowfoxx4 You're not very bright are you? You can have all the cunning and motivation in the world but it doesn't make you the best, that's like saying Stephen Hawking would make the best boxer if the prize was a cure for his condition. You're too affixed on those two points that you think make the best villan(or hero), but you are very mistaken, and repeating it over and over, doesn't make it true. Next time, try logic instead of redundancy.
you are the one who is not very bright boxing is an actual competition wherein 2 people fight each other. the winner is the one who fights better this is a top ten list wherein someone (watchmojo) decides which characters are the best. the winner is the ones who the judges pick do you see the difference? one is a legitimate contest while the other is opinion based. in regards to your stephen hawking example: people love underdogs and who could possibly be more of an underdog than a paralyzed man in a wheelchair. from a story standpoint that is awesome a man, overcoming his physical handicap to do something as physically demanding as boxing is astounding and would surely warrant a great deal of fans. he could lose every match he is in yet he would likely be considered one of the greatest boxers of all time, just for trying
1: Venom (He has always been my favorite of them all) 2: Magneto (I don’t think I need to explain why he’s even on this list) 3: Red Skull (What could possibly be more evil than a literal super Nazi?) 4: Doctor Doom (There’s a reason Stan Lee himself love him so much) 5: Loki (Filled with so much personality, fun, and flare) 6: Galactus (A fan favorite to many and I’m no exception) 7: The Mandarin (Without a doubt Iron Man’s greatest nemesis) 8: Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe’s performance as the character was incredible) 9: Thanos (I know who he is, you know who he is, we all know who he is) 10: Ultron (I’m just an enormous fan of him, that’s all) HM: Apocalypse, Abomination, Zemo, Kang, Doc Ock, Carnage, Mysterio
if you read the comic's loki realy is something big and have trobled the avegers many times galactus manly exist in F4 and he dont realy have any phyco plan og want to dominate the world/worlds he just eat them for lunch yes his dangerus and all but they went for how they are as villians and complete galactus is more just a black whole in a being
hksin11186 The main reason Carnage has more abilities than Venom is pretty simple: Venom bonded with Spidey first, so imprinted his powers. If Carnage had first bonded with someone like Doctor Doom, he'd be terrifying.
hksin11186 Oh dear God. Just imagining the Carnage symbiote merging with Loki is enough to give me nightmares. That would make a fucking AWESOME villain. The fangirls would hate it though.
Dr. Octopus, Kingpin, & Green Goblin can go! Dr. Doom & Magneto can switch spots; Ultron should've made the list Mystique should've made the list instead of being mentioned. All the stuff she stirred up with just being a shape shifter; my #1 woman Marvel villain. Power isn't everything.
Power isn't everything? Then Goblin deserves to stay.... He is what has caused Spider-Man the most pain and he is easily one of the most important and menacing villains.... I am surprised Red Skull didn't make the list.
I agree that Loki is a cool villain but there would've been avengers without him! My personal top 3 would have to be 1. Doctor Doom 2. Magneto 3. Loki Doctor Doom is easily my favorite since he is not only one of the most powerful but also one of the most recognizable Villains of all time! Both Loki and Doom have appeared in various media but Doctor Doom was always the bigger villain! most of Loki's popularity comes from the Avengers Movie
Doom was the inspiration for Darth Vader, and could not be bothered to do the dirty work of Thanos. Instead he has stolen the Silver Surfer's board, and has possessed the power of the Beyonder at the time that the Beyonder was the most powerful being in the Marvel Universe. He has a Dark Castle, and rules his own eastern European country. He not only has great ambition but also great insults and arrogance. He has a the only long lasting time machine and inter dimensional portal. He has taken over the world multiple times and is the most Iconic super villain of all time. Sorry but Loki has only been Iconic since he hit the silver screen.
Jason Case True, he may be one-dimensional, but in my opinion, he's the closest to Marvel's Joker just in terms of his insanity and bloodlust. He LOVES chaos and killing in general, and he's more powerful than Venom. His symbiote is of course the offspring of the Venom symbiote, but since it was born on Earth, it has a lot more powers to it, and actually resides in Cletus Kasady's blood, so even if the symbiote is stripped from him, he still access to the symbiote remains in his bloodstream. Also, he was cut in half and the symbiote saved him.
Where's Ultron? How Red Skull not ranked only mention but Kingpin is. It seen the characters that been shown in movies (beside Apocalypse) gets all the love and attention
