When 'a-team" first premiered, alot of us thought it was going to be all about Mr T. And we were surprised by this character. At school the next day we were quoting Murdock more than we were Mr T.
Yeah! I read that the producers didn't like him, wrote him out immediately, but then realized he was the most popular character, and let him stay! Only problem - he had been written out of the episodes... so Dwight had to improvise his lines!! This was a few episodes into season 1, and he is really funny there!
Dwight Schultz is a versatile actor. He’s totally good as Murdock in A-team and when he was on Star Trek TNG I couldn’t see Murdock in saw Lt. Barclay.
Murdock could have had his own show if he mixed his English accent with his chicken impersonation and maybe throw in some trash bags for good measure.🤪
Somewhere in the list should have been Murdock in the wedding dress running down the road and yelling I'M A BIRD I'M A PLANE I'M A CHOO CHOO TRAIN WOW!!!!!!
FACTOID: Dwight Schultz was actually turned down to join Saturday Night Live, but years later when the show The A Team was being created one of the show's producers who part of Schultz's SNL audition immediately thought of him to cast him as Murdock.
Great memories... thanks so much. He was out of his mind most of the time, but every now and then, when it mattered, he’d get serious and the acting in those moments was always on point...
