@@CtheDead209-zt8tj I think it depends on the type of game you like. If you are a lover of Mario then I could see SNES, but I was an RPG fan, so PS1 and PS2 got so much more play, and not just the FF series, Even though as Erick pointed out in his PS1 hardest, Saga Frontier was too RNG heavy, I loved those games and put so may hours on them. Personally I liked N64 more than SNES with some of the great mainstream games that console had.
Also Nocturne is definitely doable, the problem is that buffs and debuffs play a big big role in it and it's easy to ignore it as a first timer. I would definitely call almost all SMTs as hard to beat as Nocturne. But there is a rewardness to it. And that difficulty made them my favorite games.
The SNES SMT games are autobattle fests and SMT IV is an absolute cakewalk after Medusa. I'd say Strange Journey and Apocalypse are the only close to Nocturne, with SJ being slightly harder and Apocalypse being easier due the existence of some really unbalanced moves.
@@Froge0 Id say you are definitely right. And forgetting about the main series, would you put Soul Hackers on that rank? Because if you don't get the VR casino weapons and understand mitama fusions to some extent, you are pretty much boned.
Rouge Galaxy is so much fun.. I LOVE the difficulty. It makes it actually seem fun. It stays hard not going to easy and makes you feel like there is in an importance to fighting. I LOVE IT. I beat it and I have fond memories... But I also value my sanity so never again XD
@@shutup1037 i didn't like that st first either but quickly got used to it, i accepted my characters would go down frequently and started keeping as many revival items in stock as i could. it was definitely different and took some getting used to, but once i did it seemed pretty managable for the most part.
I love rouge galaxy with all my heart... Beautiful setting, story, difficulties and combat system. The only thing i would change is the camera movement 😭 it so frustrating..
I have huge time sink playing that. Like 2 years, beating those espers, hunt mobs (I defeated fafnir!), hunt rare mobs (Holy shit they are on boss level enemy), beating impossible extra bosses
gameplay wise... it's EASILY my absolute favorite in the franchise. nothing even comes remotely close to Active Dimension Battle for me. devising MMO strats by yourself is just fun... nothing like setting up someone to tank and have someone buff and debuff while the other heals. all while trying to stay offensive. I absolutely love it. and I feel it's only really hard in certain instances... A. you went somewhere you shouldn't have. B. you got unlucky and a rare monster found you. C. you're underleveled...
too bad the completely ruined the remaster. it went from being challenging to a complete cakewalk, you can easily auto battle your way through the entire game with no problem. it they wanna make it easier for casuals they can at least leave the original settings in for those of us who like a challenge.
This is legitimately the first time that I've ever heard anyone say something positive about Grandia III. I never even played it, despite loving the first two games, because of how universally fans seemed to trash it.
Grandia 3 isnt a bad game. Combat is amazing, the game is pretty for that time. But the story is bad, the characters arent that great and its a easy game compared to the previous games. If you erase the Grandia in the title you have a lot of fun with the game. Can be played on ps3 if you buy a digital version in ps store.
Grandia's always kind of been about the battle system. I don't know that I particularly cared about the stories so much. The only characters I loved were Sue and Millenia, and you don't even get to use them most of the time. Guess I should play it.
Grandia III was a pretty solid game, not that grindy but it definitely had spikes in the difficulty department. I always liked the graphics and gameplay even though the story is just ok and the pacing is pretty rough.
It has its flaws... It is extremely linear, even compared to previous games in the series, there are major difficulty spikes, and the series of dungeons that make up the second disc can be a real slog... but if you love the series’ battle system it is definitely worth checking out. I remember it requiring a lot more strategy than the first two.
The hardest rpgs I ever played on the ps2 are Suikoden 3, Romancing SaGa Minstreal Song, and last is Shin Megmai Tensei Nocturne( I agree with everything you said about that game)
Suikoden III was IMO only really hard in the army battles....worst army battles in the franchise if you ask me ( though bear in mind I never had a chance to play any after IV.... )
great list, im surprised eternal poison is not here. for me, the most difficult rpgs in ps2 are the ones that use a dial to attack, like magna carta. i have awful reflexes so i almost always miss the hits.
As long as you stuck to the main story portion of FF12 it wasn't too bad. The main thing you needed to get a handle on was the Gambits. What I found helped a lot was prioritizing healing over anything else although that occasionally caused some problems of its own. That went double for some of the optional boss battles. Even then you also had to get a feel for weapons, armor and especially accessories and how you could swap them around mid battle. That could help if a boss used an attack of a specific element and you wanted to absorb it but needed something different for its regular attacks. Using those tricks I managed to beat the main story without too much difficulty but the last optional espers and optional bosses need very specific strategies to beat that are very hard to pull off.
I flipped out when I heard Rogue Galaxy was ported to PS4 with achievements and was one of the big reasons I bought a PS4. I was hoping for a lot more PS2 love but Sony put that away quick. Anyway, I only got to Chapter 5 or so on PS2, now I'm into Chapter 6 and am loving it more. I think a big reason I'm enjoying it more is that I'm not grinding and am paying sharp attention to the mini-map in where to go next. Healing IMMEDIATELY when ANYONE gets hit is key. You're right, the bosses don't play around and will two-to-three hit KO your team, you just need to be spacially aware and look for tells to be ready to heal your team. It kinda stinks you can't tell your teammates to REALLY back off, but you can tell them to keep away with tends to help. Anyway great list!
the ps3 store has a lot of good ps1 and ps2 rpgs. i just bought a bunch on there. it's too bad they didn't add them to the ps4 store for whatever reason but luckily i still have my ps3.
I agree about Final Fantasy XII. I remember plenty of occasions where I had to grind for hours on it. I'd also have to mention Star Ocean: Till the End of Time. There were a lot of difficulty spikes and I was usually making it through battles by the skin of my teeth, even after taking advantage of the orichalcum trick when crafting. Not to mention the bullshit MP death mechanic. It was still a great game at least, and it's one of my favorites on the PS2.
Couldn't agree with you more on Star Ocean 3. I used to abandon the game several times when I was a kid and found some of the battles are too difficult for me to win. Not bosses, just random battles. Finished the game once and never touched it again. Also, I heard that some people can control multiple characters manually at the same time in battles in this game. I've always been wondering how on earth people can do that.
@@Nemesis3028 Yes there were. FFXII had a couple difficulty spikes, the first most memorable of which to me was the Dreadnaught Leviathan (which you can't leave from in the story, and while trying to escape, it's easy to be overwhelmed with enemy reinforcements). I was stuck on that part for days, and just farmed the enemies that spawned near the save point to grind. I also had a bit of trouble battling Vossler after going through the Tomb of Raithwall. Giruvegan was the last area where I remember having to grind a bit, but it didn't give me as much trouble as Dreadnaught Leviathan. FFXII is one of my favorite Final Fantasy games, but it's certainly one of the harder ones in my opinion.
@@dqsang90 Well, it's not at the same time, but you can switch between playing different party members in the middle of battle, and it's useful for avoiding the final bosses blood attack that pools the entire field. I still really loved playing Star Ocean 3, and found the plot twists to be really interesting (and of course, the gameplay is great, although it felt like an unrefined Tales of.... it actually got to the point where I forgot I wasn't playing Tales of, since their battle systems are so similar). Surprised that the first time I got a Game Over was at the dragon, Crossell, at the end of the Ursa Lava Caves, since there were numerous boss fights, and even common battles where I barely survived (they certainly drained all my healing items though). The difficulty spikes toward the end of disc 2 where absolutely ridiculous though, and I got fed up of it, so to just enjoy the story, I dumped 3 or 4 orichalcums onto Fait, Maria, and Cliff, along with a couple Rainbow Stones, and it made the final battles bearable, but I was still getting beaten hard after adding those buffs (and it still took a couple tries to beat the final boss).
@@BlackArachnid41 The constant respawn of enemies is annoying indeed but you can always run past them and heal on the next screen, besides its not like you can get lost, at that point you already have the map and are going back, you can also use the consoles on that map to temporarily disable the alarm giving you enough time to get away. Also if you were stuck there and had to "grind near the savespot" im sure you were underleveled or undergeared (maybe even both). Was that area a bit complicated? I won't deny it kinda was, but saying that you were stuck there for days it seems to me you were unprepared for that area. I'm not the kind of players that says "git gud" but a small difficulty spike on such a long game is not enought to call the game hard.
I dropped Unlimited Saga within two hours of finding it used at a Gamestop one day. An hour and forty minutes of that time was spent eating lunch, and driving home. Popped it into my enormous ps3, played 10 or so minutes into a forest area, ejected the disc, and haven't touched it since. I know Saga games like to go their own way. But damn. That was bad.
So obviously wife and I just found the channel and working on the back catalog as time allows. How did you wind up in Mexico? Im sure it was answered in a Q and A but we are new :). Very fun video the Ps2 was really amazing for rpg and jrpg games.... Tho I am seeing a new Renascence lately on the Ps4 with the upcoming release first time on western shores for the cold trail series.... Thus wife and I are hoping as months pass by to see more best of the Ps4 lists since you finally got one :)
@@leonard9624 the original was pretty challenging, which is why it was one of my favorite ff games. unfortunately they ruined zodiac age by completely removing anything slightly resembling challenge.
I've played "Nocturne" when I was a teenager. I remember that I recruited Dante from the DMC series. I managed to reach the true final boss, wich I couldn't defeat because I "threw away" an essential skill for the fight and was too tired to grind, capture and evolve the personas that were necessary to get the skill again. Great game though.
Rogue Galaxy was the first digital game I got for the PS4. 40 + hours in, I thought I defeated the final boss of Chapter 13. But I then had to fight 8 more 1v1 with a different party member each time. 2 hours later I died on the 9th overall final boss.
Rogue Galaxy... My younger brother deleted my first save. I was 30 hours in. Then I started again. I went 40 hours in, but something happened. I couldn't keep progressing in the main missions because of a bug, so I dropped it. I loved AND hated this game because of that. After some years I downloaded it and played it on the ps2 emulator. I completed the game in 90 hours. But I could say I played it for 160 hours. I) tried to replay it a month ago... And I recalled the ENDLESS copy-pasted corridors in the dungeons, and dropped it right there. Great game. Very flawed. But still great.
For Final Fantasy XII, it's almost a strategy RPG with how you're supposed to program your party's behavior. You make them play themselves, and then change the gambits when you run into trouble. It probably does expect you to do the side content too.
Top 10 Hardest eh Erick bro. 😁 That is what makes them special and as for FF XII,best way to go about this one is to overgrind plus i did find one way to survive it. Try to unlock most of the skill tree till you can craft the assassin dagger so when you get to craft them for your team,go out to some areas to try and deal damage to the very tough slimes so you can auto kill them for lots of exp and skill points to unlock the rest of the skills. I missed playing Grandia III & the one after that one but i'll get them one day. Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria was super tough and i did get lost at times plus gridning for special materials had you run back to old areas to help make better gear. Growlanser Generations was one of my all time favourites! Growlanser III was the first one i defeated and had so much fun with but man,Growlanser II really blew my mind as to how hard things were to achieve certain requirements. 😆 I missed out on Rogue Galaxy but i hope to play it one day to see how insane it can get. Odin Sphere is just so amazing and i learned how to avoid getting overrun in battles so i can get pretty far in it for the ps2. 😆 Ah Disgaea: Hour of Darkness, lol,is so grindy but dang its one of the most insane games i ever got inot plus i have yet to finish those games because i got stuck wanting to decimate the item world! Baroque is one game i am gonna get soon because it looks amazing plus i love the challenge and eventhough you won't recommend it,i am gonna torture myself with it! 😆 Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter was a weird type game & i didn't know you had to die to get better since i tried not to ever die because i wanted to kick everythings butt. Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne is another game i so wanna buy and destrot my sanity with because of how many people recommend this title! 😁 Thanks for your list Erick bro and i am prepared for most of the games so i can get frustrated and then think of better ways to take on everything.
.hack//infection is the hardest jrpg I played for the ps2. I love the game but it’s too much of a ball buster when it comes to grinding. I never beat it but still own it. It is like you can grind for days and go back to where you were having trouble but it feels like the enemies are stronger too or something
The grinding is mostly useless in those .Hack games because you receive less and less experience the higher your lvl against the enemies. In order to get stronger, you need better equipment and abilities.
13:20 The MAIN idea of Breath of Fire was that the main hero could transform into dragon type livings but in this game, you could transform BUT as a dragon blood you died if you where transformed to long. Even When you don't transform and grind to long, the meter hits 100% and you die. This idea was the most IDIOTIC mechanic I ever had to deal with. The main idea of the series got that broken that you have to invent a new word to explain that shit. 15:00 Love this game. Finished it several times, got Dante to my team etc. So sad that this game never got it's HD Remaster.
valkyrie profile 2 : SIlmeria. I really love this game. good combo system, game mechanics, art, character design, story, graphic, music. Everything perfect in this game.
I honestly didn't find Rogue Galaxy that hard a game, I completed it with ease with hardly needing to grind that much. Resonance of Fate however is a really hard game; that game can easily kill you in the runt battles if you aren't careful and the bosses are hard to beat. The need to balance scratch damage with direct damage as well as equipping the right items and trying not lose your Bezel's during the fight, otherwise you go into critical mode which happened to me all too often, make this game difficult to complete. I need to replay it because I never did finish it. Wild Arms 3 was a hard game for me and I didn't complete it. They've released it on the PS4 so I may try it again but I remember getting my arse handed to me easily. I also remember you have to grind for hours because levelling up takes forever.
rogue galaxy seems hard at first but once you accept that you reviving party members fairly frequently is just part of the game, it doesn't seem so bad. i bought quite a few ps1 and ps2 rpgs on the ps3 store but sadly rogue galaxy is not on there. the xenosaga trilogy is not on there either and those are my favorite ps2 rpgs.
The FF 12 problem was that you are suppose to grind to find the secret weapons and accesories. Because of that on the remake they made that arena where you can get them more easily.
Final Fantasy XII made me quit few times because I stuck. Valkyrie Profile 2 is a really good example for strange difficulty changes: the begin was easy, during chapter 3 and 4 it became really hard to result in being overpowered in chapter 5 (what is for story-reason too if you have Einherjar). Chapter 6 was medium but when I tried going to the bonus dungeon I really fell into despair until I leveled up around ten times. It was still hard though. Still my number one PS2 game. Haven't played anything else from your list.
Once you get the hang of post-game it gets pretty boring. You basically use the right accessories and right stones and have a single heavy warrior (and an einherjar at that--not even a plot character with a name) spamming a single move through your entire AP bar to do orders of magnitude more damage than your entire party of gods could do acting in concert. Alternatively you could build up Freya to the point where you can hamster-farm and then grind billions of years to get enough miracle eggs or whatever they were called to max the stats of whoever you like to use and then solo with them. But the sad truth of post-game is...you're going to fly solo wherever you go.
I have played Rogue Galaxy and stopped playing at Juraika for the first time, not even completing the Juraika. The second one is Nocturne and guess what, i quit at Matador for the first time : ) he's so torturing : )
@@mysteryrpgs I've decided that either he hasn't played it or he got some good RNG when he did. Ephemeral Fantasia seems to vary wildly from one playthrough to the next in terms of how shitty it wants to be to you. I remember one time going through the sacred treasure dungeons and the fairies in the forest just raped me endlessly, having mobs of 5-6 at a time 2-shotting me constantly. Then on a different playthrough the dungeon was almost inconsequential and I don't even know what I did differently. I don't think I've ever changed my playstyle [Claire = bae, spam speed chain, healing circle, and guard chain, do whatevs with everyone else--battles take a billion years but you always end with full health; works until late game when damage values start getting absurdly too high.] In one playthrough Fang absolutely wrecked everything, yet in the next he was weaker than my regular characters despite being far higher leveled. And the final boss is NEVER easy--that's the only constant.
Good list... Grandia 3 and Rogue Galaxy underrated games. Saw in your Q and A that you live in Guadalajara, I lived there for 3 years it was a cool place.
I bought the solution book for Rogue Galaxy, because there were so many chests and monsters for the monster guide. Same goes for FF12. If a JRPG is too hard - on normal - play on easy for the story. When it is even hard on easy - like some bosses in Cold Steel - thank you enemy weaken option - I started the first playthrough on normal and than switched to easy because of the story. If JRPG only have one difficulty, it will be a level grind par excellence.
Breath of fire dragon quarter is one of the hardest JRPGs I've ever played and also one of my favorite s! The other reason why this game catches alot of flac as well is because you need to beat the game once to experience all the content. I have yet to beat this game but I can't imagine wanting to play through it again after suffering so much lol Great video and list! I'm definitely gonna check some of these titles out.
CLicked because of Rogue Galaxy!!, amazing story and gameplay which isn't a shock because its from Level5 so if ya'll like dark cloud you'll love rogue galaxy, and honestly if you grind earlier on in the game (mainly by monster hunting and getting every treasure) the boss and even the ghost ship doesn't become too difficult to beat. Also Grandia III felt half done, but the story and battle system wasn't too bad, I actually beat the boss by having everyone on auto-pilot. Literally left to make a snack, came back and the cut scene for the ending had already started. I was so proud lmao!😂😂
Aww man I saw Rogue Galaxy in the thumbnail and IMMEDIATELY clicked just to hear you opinion on it. As far as how I came about Rogue Galaxy, my journey started around 2009-10, back when I was still in high school. I was browsing through the game aisles in a local pawn shop, when I actually came across Rogue Galaxy. After I had played Dark Cloud (as I had no idea that Dark Cloud 2/Dark Chronicle existed and didn't have internet to find out until at least a year or so later), I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was also a Level-5 property, and since I had a pleasant experience with one of their games already, I decided to give this one a go. Well worth it in my opinion, but I can agree that sometimes the difficulty can be a bastard, especially if you're going in blind and don't know how to work around the system. I kind of wish they would make a part two, because that ending after beating it left me hanging... [EDIT]: To that end, I didn't think it to be that hard when I first started it. But then again, at that time I had already had FF10/10-2 and FF12, so maybe it broke me into RPG systems where you used a skillboard, items and EXP to level and expand upon your party?
Surprised that you didn't mention Eternal Poison. That game is so brutal to the point that you will have to restart a game from the beginning if you haven't had the foresight to make multiple saves.
I am playing through FF12 now and you are not kidding, I just had to grind for 3 hours to even have a chance. It's a fantastic game but it can be a pain in the ass... great video man!
I didn’t like ff12. I don’t like auto fighting. It was really boring watching the game play itself. The story sucked too. I beat the game but don’t remember anything except that stupid crystal place where every floor looks the same. Screw that place
I'd like to add WA3, never was able to beat the game. Always got stuck at some point where the ratio of battle spoils and needed resources to upgrade weapons and even sleep in an inn was so unbalanced! Also very frustrating was that the vendor was just available for 1 purchase.
@@ErickLandonRPG Good opinion from guy who has yet to beat WA3, Not exactly come far none other than part 2 right now and I think I can still manage it and I only beat the first WA1 on my PS vita recently I feel accomplished for it.
To get the best ending you need to make sure you stay neutral and don't pick a reason and answer correctly to aradia on yoyogi park dungeon(even if you pick a reason, that's the most important answer in the game that will determine your ending as the game has a hidden flag point system that decides which ending to give the player.)
@@lucasbosco3473 the demon ending has the most gameplay, so in terms of wanting to kill the most bosses then the demon ending is the 'best' out of all of them
-FF XII: Beat it. Some of the optional areas and bosses are brutal. Still have yet to finish all the side quests. -Grandia III: Never played it. I'll have to give this a try later on. -Valkyrie Profile: Got to the last boss and gave up there lol. Awesome game though. -Growlanser Generations: The game that made me a fan of this wonderful series :) -Rogue Galaxy: Great game. Those difficulty spikes are crazy though. -Odin Sphere: Tried to finish beautiful game on ps2, but never did due to it being so hard at points. Made me want to throw my controller. I'll get the remaster though. -Disgaea: Put this game on hold. Not that bad. Pretty manageable difficulty in main story...so far lol. Side content on the other hand is pretty damn hard. -Baroque: I remember this game. Not for me. -Dragon Quarter: After quite a few attempts...got real close to the end, but got stuck on this cheap boss battle. That's when i stopped playing and sold the game later on. Worst Breath of fire ever imo. -Nocturne: loved this game and series. One of the best rpgs I played. Still Stuck at that Matador boss lol. -Unlimited Saga: One of the worst and confusing games I ever played. Only good thing about it is the cool soundtrack which I would recommend listening to on RU-vid. Great video. Every choice was on point 👍
In Odin Sphere the safest tactic you can do is to jump and down+square into another jump. You can also try throwing a ground string into blocking sometimes. Revisit levels to buff your character. I think I had to use a walkthrough only a couple times barring recipes.
I need to go back to Rogue Galaxy I am right at the end and just left it and it was getting a lot easier as well. Gonna be rough trying to pick up where I left off near 14 years ago (jeez that long?) but I should give it a go. Had Nocturne for years but never played it (one day) going through old RPGs I missed or never played back in the day atm. Finally finished Chrono Trigger and am now playing Chrono Cross (which im enjoying a lot more).
I think the port of Tales of Smyphonia should get a shout out because of the BS difficulty spikes. Kratos: Lighting Blade,Super Lighting Blade,Light Spear Cannon,Grave, Judgement! Me: Damn will you let me move!
I honestly think it's not hard at all if you know when to guard his attacks and evade the spells. Reagal was a beast at combos by the way, you can stun lock any boss for a long time.
Ramis I mean the entire game becomes easy when you learn to break the game via magic canceling. Raine becomes a melee beast doing this plus the chance of instant casting. When you learn ToS' battle system inside out Llyod becomes one of the worst people to play as. Magic cancel using Colette and have the chance of instant casting Judgement. 🤩
I didn't think BoF5 was that difficult. But yeah, SMT3 was crazy hard for me. At the time I got it, I was relatively new to JRPGs and it was my first Megaten title, so I absolutely got my ass handed to me. Not to mention, being unfamiliar with SMT, I didn't understand why so many important elements of the game were in Japanese. The Demon Fusion rules completely dumbfounded me and I couldn't memorise the Japanese location names to save my life, so everytime I was told to go somewhere I was lost. Unfortunately, I ended up selling the game after investing only ten hours in it. Years later, when I'd grown up a bit, I tried Digital Devil Saga, got hooked, played DDS2, Devil Summoner, Strange Journey, Soul Hackers and Persona 3 and 4. Then I went looking to re-buy Nocturne only to find it basically doesn't exist in Australia anymore and costs a crap-tonne to buy on eBay... I really hope they do a HD remake or something. I wish I didn't sell it just because I was too retarded to play it.
Yeah i first played persona fest on hard and leaved the game until i grown up and learned a little english. Not to mension i dint know about skill names like bufu, suku ,raku, media, hama etc.
I tried Unlimited Saga twice and gave up almost immediately, but then last year after reading a let's play by someone who understood how the system worked (as well as anyone can) and went into the details of it I tried a third time and finally enjoyed it a lot. My very late word of advice for anyone coming out of this video going "I've gotta see if it's really as bad as all that": if you plan on trying to fumble through figuring things out yourself I 100% recommend picking Ventus as the first path you try, he's the only one where you never run out of quests if you need to try grinding any of your characters a better skillset in the endgame.
I would put Chaos Legion on this list aswell. Its like Devil May Cry with summons to help you fight. It's hard as hell, and even if your an ace at the combat you still have to be very careful what you do. Aside from that the list is pretty on point. I guess it's not entirely a JRPG though, even though it's much like a predecessor to Dark Souls as an Action centric JRPG.
Here to sign the, "I gave up on Chaos Legion on Hard Mode Stage 5(?)," card, as well as the, "soundtrack is AMAZING especially the Grand Cave Kuzca stage," card. I had more fun on normal mode using the special attacks/dodges that Sieg gets than actually summoning the Legions themselves though. It's funny, but to me the game is basically, "counterattack body slam or sword combo into the lightning dodge with its cool I-frames a bit, and if need be kick a blasphemy at it." But again, I gave up on Hard Mode, so I'm no master.
I'm glad to see other people have tried out that little known gem. As a DMC fan it had alot of similarities, and yet felt fresh and unique amidst the genre.
I don't think Nocturne is THAT hard honestly, the game is all about trial and error when it comes to bosses. You'll go in, probably die but that failure to beat the boss is more of a scouting mission than anything. With Matador for example, I went in, died and then realised I needed skills like Fog Breath to offset his accuracy debuffs and new demons that resist Zan. After about 15 minutes of fusing new demons optimised for the task I returned and absolutely destroyed Matador with the only level grinding being the enemies I defeated making my way back. That's just how Nocturne is, your best and most versatile tool are your demon party members, you can do things at crazy low levels if you just have the right demons.
Erick Landon RPG is that supposed to be sarcastic? Cuz honestly op is right, the only people who say nocturne is hard are the ones who didn’t learn how to play it. We also got the easy version cuz we had pisaca, unlike base version which is only in japan
I actually loved breath of fire! When i 1st died when the dragon meter reached 100% i understood how the game worked. another death and finished the game :) i am a masocist
dragon quarter was a good game. i never beat it, made it to the final boss and ran out of dragon form just before he died, then i ended up getting into another game and never got around to going back. it's one of those games i wish i still had or they'd come out with a remaster or something.
Rougue galaxy its really hard. Because if you dont grind. they kill you one shot so many times. And nocturne was really hard even using buffs. I remember beating satan at lv 85 and sometimes he one shot me .
Matador is very difficult since that boss is around lv 30s, and at the time "we" encounter him mostly at lv 15 ~ lv 18... also F fog breath in that battle...
I actually like Rogue Galaxy, the only thing I didn't like in it was that, to get some of the strongest weapons, we need to grind weaker ones to fuse them. Some are sold in extremely out of place shops!
Nocturne/Lucifer's Call was actually my first foray into the SMT franchise. I loved it! Collecting all the monsters and creating the ultimate team was more fulfilling than any Pokemon game ever created xD still remembered my team of Shiva, Metatron and Beelzebub being my favourite lineup Also, i do believe Laharl is still running around shouting "OVERLORD! OVERLORD!" somewhere after all these years
Funny how i've found those game easyer than the average. Don't ge tme wrong they ARE hard games, but i really like grinding in rpgs to the point where i just break them and annhilate everything by spamming X. Since those games are hard and "need" grinding i enjoyed em more than most rpgs, especially Valkyre Profile and Grandia. Didn't play growlanser thou, don't like that kind of rpg mechanics, i did play disgaea, not finished thou, i doun't like when the game is ONLY grinding... PS: Dragon Quarter is my favourite rpg for ps2 hands down. That game made only 3 mistakes: The name, The ants die of age, the time limit. It's the only game that makes you think how to approach a battle and MAKES you use items in a smart way to approach enemies that are impossible to beat if bullrushed.
I ❤ed dragon quarter too but those freakin ants yeah i feel ya. lol Only minigame worse to me in an rpg was the one in rogue galaxy. I literally ragequit the game over it because i would try to breed my best insects (that took me forever to obtain) and end up getting complete garbage. Like every time. Could've just been some horribly bad luck though idk lol 🤷♂️. Also factor in that i'm not a fan of the pokemon series to begin with (which this was like the equivalent of some kind of warped pokemon parody game) and you have a winning combo to truly piss a gamer off.
@@StarDragonJP Erm what is your definition of something else exactly? xD Is like saying that doing rift in diablo is "doing something else" ye a bit more randomization but other than that...

Dude wtf, i loved dragon quarter. I agree it can be kinda hard thanks to that stupid % system but it was a beautiful story with a beautiful ending. I would play the shit out of it again
Ah Rogue Galaxy, I played the port with one benefit in mind: Using the speedrun strats. Jaster became a killing machine with the sword buff and EVERY attack buff used to deal 2k damage per swing.
finally someone who likes grandia 3. and now I don't feel bad that I needed 2 tries on half of the bosses I fought. I've only played 1 and 3, and haven't beat 3 yet, but 1 was too easy in my opinion. still love it though.
@@ErickLandonRPG I had issues with XII but i was okay with RG, of course i relied on Jaster's OP sword and continiusly evolved the weapons. Hell Dark Cloud was tougher!!!! Why did you not put that on, one broken weapon can send you back by HOURS!!
Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria, still my favourite PS2 game. It was so much fun to play, even though it was like impossible for me to beat at first. Unlimited Saga was a chore, I've never had determination to even finish one chapter.
I better be in Streets of Rage 4 Skate: Yup. That’s true. I’m playing ff12 on PS4 and wondering how the hell I worked through this grind fest. Work and kids get in the way though. I also smashed more than a few controllers off the wall as a kid too. I’m playing mgs original at the moment and the first sniper wolf fight almost killed a PS4 controller... They’re too expensive for that shit though...
@@stevied3121 only game that ever made me smash my controller was the Ninja Gaiden that came out on the original XBox. I never beat it and never will, fuck that game.
Hardest rpgs - ffxii •i literally spent 90% of it using auto set ups with gambits and barely needed to touch a button in battle I guess difficulty is subjective
6:44 I remember playing that game and was significantly leveled up and had the best equipment i could get..............and I still recall healing more than i was actually fighting in that game. I think someone didn't think through the damage or hp numbers thoroughly enough honestly.
@@jamiehoward6505 Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter, known in Japan as Breath of Fire V: Dragon Quarter (Japanese: ブレス オブ ファイアV ドラゴンクォーター Hepburn: Buresu obu Faia Faibu Doragon Kwōtā), is a PlayStation 2 game originally released on November 14, 2002. It is the fifth role-playing game (RPG) in the Breath of Fire series. Any questions?
Come on Erick ! FF 12 & Rogue Galaxy are not hard. Eben Odin Sphere, except at the end where you have to fight each boss, That’s my opinion and i am far from a really good player, but i play almost only rpg, jrpg, arpg and trpg. By the way love your channel 😇
Bertrand Soubrier The main story isn’t that bad, but some of the optional fights in FF 12 are ridiculous. Zodiark uses a move that can instant KO everyone in your party, even if they equip armor that absorbs the dark elemental damage of the attack. Also, the first playthrough, if not using guides, can be tough at times, especially if you didn’t know you weren’t supposed to be in a certain area or fight a certain boss at that time. Once you know what you’re doing, yeah, the main story is very easy, but a blind playthrough will probably see you dying a lot.
Agree. The bosses from main story of ff12 were quite manageable. The boss from the side quests (esp the last few), however, were on a totally different level 😂 unfortunately i didn't hv a luxury of time to grind, so i quit
RG is jusr divine and another part of my childhood and young adulthood. 27. But my god its good and sooo replayable and always available to improve your file. It's very vast and perfect execution from start to finnish and even like xenosaga,an awesome thing after the end credits, more gameplay and story.
this is the most 2008 fuckin video i have seen in a while. no hate, its endearing, it just really really feels like that era of gaming videos on youtube to me.
Hey, Erick. I´d like to support you but with the Spanish version of your books (I know that many people will do it with the English version). Do you have a link to buy it?
Star Ocean: Till the End of Time gets pretty crazy post-game. I don't mind grinding at all TBH. I find the mindlessness of it kinda relaxing, so I usually go into RPG's way over leveled. That game's final dungeons wrecked the whole team and I never did end up completing those dungeons...
I clicked on this video specifically to see if you would talk about Baroque, was not disappointed. I think that is the only game I ever stopped playing due to difficulty.
