I still don't understand how to use vostro. I understand using tuo, tua, tuoi, and tue but when to use vostro, vostra, vostri, vostre I just don't get.
@ItalianTeacherValentina
@ItalianTeacherValentina 9 месяцев назад
Those are "possessive adjectives", "vostro" is the one for "your" but plural (so more than one person). I explain in detail how they work in a dedicated video, I have linked it in the description 😉

4. Confusion of prepositions. No way around it, you must learn when to use each one for fixed expressions. I practice by making up sentences in Italian where I use different prepositions. For your example, “ sono a Roma” I ask myself, does the preposition change if I want to say I am in a state or country? (It does.). Don’t ask why Italian uses different prepositions, just learn when to use each one and don’t try to compare it to English.

Thanks for the video. The hardest for me is reflexive, because in English the verb is not reflexive but in Italian it is.

Yes Bryan, reflexive verbs are something you really need to train your brain to accept and use. Have you watched my video on reflexive verbs? I give an explanation of what they and how they work that hopefully will help you with this process.

Great lesson, thank you. I find reflexive verbs very confusing I will endeavour to practice more. Also something you didn't mention is the difference between passato prossimo and imperfetto, gets me every time.

Hi Valentina. Number 3...conjugating verbs....you've just got to practise. And number 6.. the double consonants. These are the hardest for me. It's good fun learning though 👌

Thanks for pointing out these mistakes. Spanish being my native language learning Italian has been easier but still make these mistakes. Looking forward to checking out your videos. Did the mistake of starting to learning Italian with English spoken programs which I understood perfectly given I’m in the USA since I was 6 years old, but obviously the similarity of the Spanish language makes it so much easier.

Yes, being a Spanish native speaker is a huge advantage. But even Spanish and Italian have differences, e.g. we do have more choices for articles so it's normal some of these still escape you.

I love your videos. They are so helpful. You explain things so clearly. I'm a beginner at learning Italian. One of the things that I've found challenging that leads to mistakes is there is this general rule that "In Italian, you pronounce every letter". So my brain goes to that rule when reading or speaking. I don't think that rule is really accurate, especially when it comes to multiple vowels. For example, the rule would have you pronounce giovedi as Jee oh vay dee (sorry if my phonetics aren't quite exact there). I was taught to pronounce it as jo vay dee. One teacher said Italians do pronounce every letter. They just blend them so quickly that a native English speaker can't pick it up. What's you take on this? Once again, thanks for the great videos.

Buongiorno Tom. I also always tell my students that we pronounce every.single.vowel like they were self-standing, because that's actually true. And although it's also true that the sounds seem to blend together to a foreign ear, that's NOT in my opinion why you are having trouble with "giovedì". I think in this case you may be encountering two issues: 1) the common misconception that "i" is built in in the "c" and "g", which leads to a lot of confusion with pronunciation and spelling (I have already filmed a video on this point and I will upload it in the upcoming weeks) 2) stress placement. If you place your stress on a vowel, that will give the vowel more emphasis, since you are spending more time there, making its sound more predominant. So pay attention to place the stress correctly (on the last vowel) and DO NOT STOP (as I always tell my students) until you reach the end. This way you won't give the "i" too much emphasis, just the amount it needs for clear articulation. Hope this helps!

I am so happy I found your channel is amazing!! I am in the process of learning italian, spanish is my first language and english my second!! It is easier for my to make my notes and translations to spanish since both languages are similar. My question for you is do you always have to use definite article before posessive pronouns? For example: La mia vicina Il mio vicino Is it correct to only say: Mia vicina Mio vicino Normally in spanish we would say: Mi vecino Mi vecina Thank you so much!
