I tend to use magari more than forse and probably use it where I shouldn't. It is, for some reason, easier for me to remember magari. I often say it when someone asks me if I have the right change or just a general maybe.

Molto interessante, Anna! Yes, in those situations we wouldn't actually use "magari". As I explain in the video, it's mostly used for the specific case of proposing/suggesting something.

Could you also do a video on "comunque"? I hear it a lot when Italians speak to each other, but it seems in most cases not to have the standard dictionary meaning of "anyway". Is it just a more elaborate way of saying "ma"?

I did always think that Magari means perhaps but it is i bit confusing that it is also "I wish" For example Do you wish to go to holiday? You can answer I wish (i can't but i want to go) It is almost confusing as "Kako da ne" in my language which can be somthing like "Yes for sure" or "No way" depending on the way you say it, literal translation to English is "How yes no 😂" Forse seems much more clear than Magari in terms of meaning. Perhaps (I am not sure if i can go but if there is a chance i will go) So both can be "Magari"

There is word in greek which comes from ancient greece "Μακάρι" and it shows desire which is one of the definitions but we don't have the rest definitions and that confused me because i thought it was just a greek word in italian but its fused with other meanings.

@@ItalianTeacherValentina What tips do you have for reading Italian stories. I listen to Italian conversations, music, "shadow" repeat phrases and words, I try reading along as I listen to Italian. But when I try reading with no sounds or repeat phrases I struggle. I watched your video on Italian alphabet and sounds and I repeat after you pronounce sounds. Very challenging.

The one I've always used is "Lo Zingarelli". As for bookstores, all the big chains I think carry them (Mondadori, Feltrinelli, etc)

Buona domanda, Darryl! Although it could be possible, it's not very likely. We use "magari" as "peraphs" mostly when we are proposing something, and "magari" as "I'd wish/I'd love to" when replying enthusiastically to someone else's proposal or statement. Also the tone and the context will make it more clear.

For the third usage of magari, you stated that it must be used with the subjunctive, but you instead used the past perfect subjunctive in your example. Which tense should I use?

I intentionally referred to the subjunctive mode in general, as many of my followers are beginners and not familiar with it. The subjunctive mode consists of 4 tenses (present, past, imperfect and past perfect). For the third usage of magari we usually use the past perfect subjunctive.

The origin of the word is actually Greek, it does exist also in Spanish as magare and it has the same meaning as in Italian but it's no longer use.
