In this video we will explore the top 10 CARNIVOROUS DINOSAURS...
Torvosaurus Gurneyi
The newest species of megalosaur to date, Torvosaurus Gurneyi is indeed a monster. Though not the twelve meter, 6-7 ton animal it was thought to be based on a 160 cm maxilla, T. gurneyi is still an immense animal. Tipping the scales at 3.5 tons at average and a staggering 5 tons as a maximum, Torvosaurus has earned its place on this list
Allosaurus Amplexus
A giant species of Allosaur that was discovered in the 90's, this animal is commonly known as "Epanterias" amplexus. Most paleontologists consider this a nomen dubium, as it appears to just be a rather large species of Allosaurus. Just how big? well, scaling off of "Big Al"(Allosaurus Fragilis) yields ~14meters, 7 tons. But, this figure is a bit baseless and a more safe size estimation should be based off of the DINO allosaurids.. The only size figures given (apparently Stovall´s estimates) published anywhere are found below:
lenght of 42ft (=12.80m), 6.25 tons(6.25 tonnes), height of 16ft (=4.88m in kangaroo pose) a gape of 4ft (1.22m) six inch (=15.2cm) teeth and eleven inch (27.8cm) foreclaws. By comparison Allosaurus was stated to reach only up to 29ft; 2 tons in weight
Therizinosaurus Cheloniformis
The only plant eating theropod on this list, Therizinosaurus is a massive animal. Quite capable of self defense as well, sporting claws that could measure as much as 6 ft. It's appearance is quite bizarre- almost a potbellied, sluggish creature in overall stature. Perhaps this is due to its immense weight; T. cheoniformis tipped the scales at ~5.5 - 6 tons in TBW. Being so large almost certainly kept it safe from most predators - though the claws surely helped.
Tyrannotitan Chubutensis
Is it really a suprise most of this list comprises of Carcharodontosaurs? They were massive creatures, and Tyrannotitan was no exception. In Giganotosauridae - the subfamily that includes Giganotosaurus and MApusaurus; two other large bodied Theropods, Tyrannotitan is estimated to measure 12.5-13 meters in length, and, basing off of close relatives, would weigh in the ball park of 5-7 tons.
Carcharodontosaurus Saharicus
Ol' Carcharodontosaurus has been kicked around quite a bit on this list. Old estimates have stated it to be anywhere from 6-20 tons in weight, and well they were right-but in a way they probably didn't expect. Carcharodontosaurus appears to be overall more slender then previously thought, and a good deal longer. An overall TBL of 45-48 feet in length, but a meager 5-7 tons in weight have brought this Carcharodontosaur down slightly on this list, but still up there pretty high.
Giganotosaurus Carolinii
Giganotosaurus has always been in the top five largest predatory dinosaurs. It too has been kicked around though, and recent studies conducted in this decade have shown us something staggering. The holotype, once hailed as a 13 meter animal, has been shrunk down to 12.4 meters in length - a "Sue" sized animal. The second individua, based on scant skull remains, was said to be ~10% larger then the holotype. That would put it at 13.2 meters in length, with a proposed body weight of 7.5-8 tons. It's no wonder Giganotosaurus is still onc of the largest predators to ever walk our earth.
Tyrannosaurus Rex
One of the first large bodied predatory dinosaurs ever discovered, Tyrannosaurus has lways been heralded as the largest to ever walk our earth. However, several discovereies in the last twenty years have shown us something rather different. Have no fear- as you can see T. rex is still high up on this list. The largest individual to date, "Celeste" measured an impressive 13 meters in length, and weighed in at 8.5-9.5 tons in weight."Sue" once regarded the largest, measures 12.2 meters in length and weighs in at 7.4- 8 tons.
Spinosaurus Aegyptiacus
WHAT?!!you may be asking yourselves, and as i'm suspecting, i'm gonna have to support the hell out of this one to assure you Spinosaurus is still the largest predatory dinosaur to date. The new reconstruction courtesy of PAul Sereno's new finds suggests a semi quadrupedal gait. So, before i start in let me tell you that this new posture gives more surface area for weight to be distributed on S. Aegyptiacus' body. As for 3 ton estimates thrown around on this site because of the new finds, i submit to you ;BS. That's the weight that Sereno et. al gave for Suchomimus Tenerensis - an 11 meter spinosaur. Simple scaling yields ~ 12 tons for S. Aegyptiacus.

As far as we know, Tyrannosaurus Rex was actually larger than we originally thought, but this video is also 5 years old at the time of this comment, and since then, Scotty was released to the public eye, at 42ft in length and an estimated 8.9 metric tons. Also in this time period we’ve had not one but two papers that theorize that Spinosaurus A. was not a standard theropod and likely weighed significantly less than other theropods due to its unique adaptations. So while still a colossal creature thats over 50ft in length, it likely barely broke the scales at 7 metric tons, but its hard to tell due to very incomplete skeletons. There is still much to learn about the Spinosaurids in time, for all I know, we could find that the species was much smaller than hypothesized in 5-10 years, or maybe much larger.

I haven't read up on dinosaurs since I was a kid in the '80s. I was vaguely aware that some other therapods larger than T. Rex had been discovered, but that the differences in size were relatively marginal, e.g. 6-7 tons in weight. What a surprise to find out that Spinosaurus was approximately three times heavier than that range - 21 tons!

abdi1983 It was nowhere near 21 tons. Most long neck dinosaurs didn't weigh that much... the guy that made this video didn't do much research, and neither did you. T Rex was more heavily muscled than Spino was, and it only weighed 6 to 8 tons... how do you rationalize a smaller, skinnier dinosaur like Spino weighing 4 times as much??
@mgmg116
@mgmg116 6 лет назад
catstar28 Bullshit. Spino had no neck muscles and it only ate fish for fuck's sake. Spino's bite force barely topped 1000 psi. T Rex's bite force is over 12,000 psi with larger-jawed specimens topping out near 20,000 psi. It literally had the power to crush Spino's neck in a single bite.

Not true, T-rex could weight up to 15 tons. And assuming he didn't weight more 7 tons then there is no possible way spino could weight up to 20, he would have had to be twice or trice as big as Trex. But that wasnt the case, he was at most 20% larger. I realize that's what it says on the video, but that just isn't right, it's not even logical

terms of length also have to do with their volume therefore also having to do with their size, t rex isn't one of the largest theropods, its simply so overrated that people think its the super unstoppable dino in the earth, while in reality it isn't im not hating im simply kicking off these stupidities.
@jordanlouie9439
@jordanlouie9439 7 лет назад
It shouldn't piss anyone off but scientifically and linguistically its an incorrect statement. size refers to volume which directly correlates with weight not length itself, the Trex is the 2nd heaviest carnivorous dinosaur thus it can't be "one of the smaller predatory dinosaurs". Also even if you referred to size as length only the Trex would still not be one of the "smaller predatory dinosaurs" if its in the top 10 it means its larger than 99% of predatory dinosaurs like veloceraptors for instance. /End nitpicky rant.

Luccas Neto Alejado the comparison was made with MALE skeletons of these species. The female tyrannosaurus was 2 times the size of a male one. Every (at least carnivorous) Dino species had larger females than males, so if we compared the largest *male* tyrannotitan with the largest tyrannosaurus ever (female)(which is what you are currently doing) that would be unfair, and we would have to compare the females of each species with one another and we would again see that T-Rex is more of a small puppy rather than a dinosaur when compared to them. Think again and search before you comment something.

So there seems to be Spino-fans and T-Rex-fans. I guess they're like arguing over who wins and stuff... Welp uh, this is the short answer: The T-Rex would win on land, 'cause on current research, Spinos were full-on aquatic creatures. But the plot would twist if the Spino was fighting a T-Rex on water--this would be a different battle. Spino would win on water, T-Rex would win on land.

If the spinosauris was aquatic, it would not have the structure of a land dwelling carnivore. It would have to of had a bone structure that more closely resembled an aquatic creature, or something similar to a crocodile for example. While it does have very few features to help support it in water, due to the fact that the water holds its food, the animal itself is a land dwelling animal, who would out due the t-rex, because of the advantage of it's much larger size. While both are formidable opponents, and fearsome creatures, the spinosauris has too much of an advantage and would conquer the t-rex.... No matter how many Jurassic park movies you watch... In reality that's just how it is. Also, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't battle in the first place since they probably live in different regions for food and stuff so.... Yeah...

Creeper _girl101 Did you watch 6:30? It spent most of it's day in the rivers so it's body has the structure mostly for the water, so why are you implicating that Spinosaurus would win against the T-Rex just because of it's massive size? Who made this list? Spinosaurus was the longest, at 50 feet, but weighed only 5-7 tons. T Rex Sue is now put at 9-10 tons in weight, being the largest by mass, and the same length as Giganotosaurus but dwarfing it by 2-3 tons. Since when does length equal size, and who came up with that idiocy? By that logic, a defensive lineman in the NFL is smaller than an NBA power forward that he outweighs by 30 lbs. Absolute stupidity, IMHO.

Pretty damn inaccurate video.... The thing I don't get is how you state T.rex to be the 10th biggest carnivirous theropod and then proceed to place 5 species higher up to list who don't even come close to touching the size of T.rex... "The mighty T.rex was actually one of the smallest predatory dinosaurs of it's time" first of, At the time T.rex lived it was the biggest walking predator on whole planet earth... Secondly, pretty much 95% of all carnivirous therapods were significantly smaller then what you're used to think of when hearing the word theropod. pretty much only 10% of all carniviroius theropods/dinosaurs exeeded 1 tonne in weight. To state T.rex was one of the smallest carnivirous theropods is just plain retarded as it's bigger then 95% of all carinores that ever walked... 100% actually but i'll come back to that later. The smallest adult T.rex specimen we found, MOR 555(Wankel), reached approximately ~11,6 meters in lenght(~38 feet) and ~6,1 tonnes(bates 2009). Keep in mind this is the smallest adult specimen found for T.rex and is quite far below average size for T.rex, and it should already be placed 5th on the list.... Stan was ~11,78 meters long(38,6 feet). Various estimations have been made. Bates(2009) estimated a mass of ~7,65 tonnes; Sellers et al. (2017) estimated a mass of 7 to 7,4 tonnes and Franoys GDI results for Stan gave an answer of ~7,7 tonnes, almost the exact same result as Bates 2011. Stan might actuall resamble the average of T.rex very well, but still far from being big for a T.rex. The Holotype(specimen CM 9380) was also about average. It was roughly 7,3 to 7,5 tonnes and 11,88 meters long(~39,0 feet)estimated by Franoys GDI, Hutchinson 2011 and Campione 2014). Franoys GDI for AMNH 5027 also revealed a mass of ~7,6 tonnes, this specimen was ~11,94 meters in lenght(~39,2 feet). Now we come to the biggest specimen of T.rex: Scotty, Trix and Seu. Let's start with Seu, the biggest of the big, and quite possibly the largest skeleton ever found of any theropod.... Seu reached approcimately ~12,29 meters long(Hutchinson 2011) or ~12,35 meters(Franoys). One of the few T.rexspecimen, if not the only one, to reach above 12 meters in lenght(~40 feet). Various estimations for this specimen have been made thoughout the years but most likely the best known is Hartman's estimation. His GDI resulted in a mass of ~8,4 tonnes. However, the legs for his model were too small. Franoys GDI with the correct leg size, and slight increase in lenght(0,06 meters to be exact) resulted in a mass of ~8,8 tonnes. Scotty GDI revealed a mass of ~8,6 tonnes. It was also older then Seu, making it the oldest T.rex specimen. Though the specimen Trix is still very unknown, it is said to be ~12 to 12,5 meters long. This makes me believe it was in the 7 to 9 tonne range looking at other specimen for refference. And now for the average T.rex. I used the specimen I mentioned in this comment and not to forget Tristan and Samson(I only used adult specimen). This revealed an average size of: weight: ~7,62 tonnes, lenght: ~11,95 meters and ~3,65 meters tall(at the hips). And now For Spinosaurus, Giganotosaurus, Carcharadontosaurus and Mapusaurus. I will make these a lot shorter then my T.rex recap. (I'm incredably bored...) Let's start with Spinosaurus. Hartman first estimated it to be ~15,6 meters long(51,8 feet) and ~12 tonnes. but this was before the 2014 discovery so he had to use a lot of proportions from Baryonyx and Sochomimus(which have totally different proportions we know now). With the little remains we had found so far it was based on quite a lot of guess work(educated guesses is a nicer word). After the 2014 discovery however this all changed. Ibrahim's team found a 40% complete specimen which hepled clearing up a lot of questions about this animal(not only it's size). His team suggested a mass of 6 to 7 tonnes and a lenght of ~15 meters(49,2 feet). The model they made had a mass of ~6,8 tonnes. Franoys GDI for Spinosaurus revealed a mass of ~6,9 tonnes and Paul Sereno estimated a mass ~7,5 tonnes. 6 to 8 tonnes sounds about right for Spinosaurus at the moment. We still haven't found anything near a complete specimen and there has been a lot of skepticism towards Ibrahim's restauration so take these estimations with a grain of salt. But these estimations are the most reliable and most upto date for Spinosaurus, WAY better then the older estimations. It is really important to never go back to the older restourations, they are way further from the treuth than anything else. The specimen Ibrahim's team found was even more complete then the(desrtoyed) holotype Stromer found. So to summarize, a mass of 6 to 8 tonnes and a lenght of 15 meters for Spinosaurus in March 2019. Now for Giganotosaurus. The problem(which also goes for Spinosaurus, Carcharadontosaurus and Mapusaurus) is that we have found very few remains of this animal. The holotype(Mucpv-Ch1) is about 70% complete(which is awesome), but that's about it... We have found a solitairy mandible(specimen Mucpv-95) but it's very useless when trying to figure out this animals size. The holotype reached a lenght of ~12,2 meters long(~40,0 feet) and Hartman's GDI revealed a mass of ~6,8 tonnes. Franoys GDI for this specimen also revealed a mass of ~6,8 tonnes. Snively's estimation revealed a mass of ~6,9 tonnes. Seems they pretty much all "agree" this specimen was ~6,8/6,9 tonnes. Hartman's infamous estimation for Mucpv-95 is actually highly speculative. He estimated Mucpv-95 to be 13,2 meters long and ~8,2 tonnes. Franoys estimation for Mucpv-95 revealed a lenght of ~12,52 meters and a mass of ~7,3 tonnes. However, like I said this specimen is only a solitairy mandible. This is pretty useles as there is absolutely no way of knowing how big this specimen is. The mandible is about 6,5% bigger then that of Mucpv-Ch1 but dentary size can vary quite a bit between individuals. For all we know this specimen was just as big as Mucpv-Ch1. conclusion: it was about 12,2 meters long and 6,8 tonnes.

It's cool, but it's species was actually around for a very short period of time compared to others. Of course, this could've been because of the times changing, but it also could've meant the Tyrannosaurus was not all that powerful.

The Tyrannosaurus was definitely fairly intelligent for the time, though if you met it it today it would probably come across as around 6x dumber than a chicken; however, it was pretty strong, and that is undeniable. I definitely think it's pretty cool, it just wasn't around for long, unfortunately.

@svenheuseveldt7188
@svenheuseveldt7188 5 лет назад
_SP3KTRUM thats not how you determine an animals size... by your logic a giraffe and snake are bigger then an elephant... in biology weight is the mian factor to determine an animals size. t.rex was way bigger then saurophaganax. and t.rex WAS bulckier then saurophaganax, thats a fact, not a may. while it might have been just as long and stood just as tall as t.rex its build was much more lean and thinner. t.rex was able to weigh 9 tonnes while saurophaganax was only 5 to 6 tonnes... thats 3 tonnes difference purely in mass, keep in mind they where just as long and just as tall... t.rex was a brute and would trample of saurophaganax.
@user-hi8vi4sl9w
@user-hi8vi4sl9w 5 лет назад
Toostig Sure, ill abide by your cherry-picked examples. I’m just gonna ask, why the fuck are people saying T.Rex was bulky? I’ve been looking for a long while and I cannot find any credible source on a Tyrannosaurus’ bulkiness. Is it because of its large head? Because that’s pretty bullshit, Giganotosaurus had a huge head, and you don’t hear anyone talking and ranting about the Giga’s bulkiness.
@user-hi8vi4sl9w
@user-hi8vi4sl9w 5 лет назад
Another thing, Giganotosaurus was taller and longer than T.Rex, and even it was supposedly less bulky, everyone you meet will say it’s bigger than Tyrannosaurus If this works, it clearly works for Saurophaganax.
