possibly a year or two aswell, the sound design, production, mixing and mastering within dubstep, edm, or other techno genres is extremely time consuming to perfect
I don't really listen to Skrillex but you have to admit that the dude has insane talent. Not only did he cultivate an entirely new musical but if you listen to some of his songs there's a lot of cinematic/orchestral elements
@@buchichu7034 A) It was backed up, thus why it was such a big deal that multiple laptops and hard drives were stolen. B) skrillex was literally living on tour for years after scary monsters and so all of his equipment stayed on the road with him. There are docs showing him making songs in the back of cars going to his next show. His production was anything but conventional but its what he had to do to make it by when he was making a name for himself.
You have to admit, the Skrillex story is kinda sad. Losing an entire album and most of another one (from the sounds of it) must suck so much. Especially since it was stolen. Like I'm someone who panicked at the thought of losing my dissertation. I can't imagine losing your whole album you worked so hard on
Similar story, Damon Albarn has come out to say he left a hard drive containing an entire Gorillaz album and several other songs that weren't released on a taxi. Not as sad of circumstances, but disheartening for sure.
I actually lived in Japan as a kid (my father was in the air force and stationed in Tokyo) and watched Sazae-San a lot growing up. I went looking for it last year and was amazed to find that it was almost impossible to find anywhere on the internet. It is weird when you can find bootleg dubs of the most obscure anime in the world but not what is basically the Japanese Simpsons.
I had no idea that Sazae-san had so many lost episodes! It's kind of spooky to think that some of the random episodes I've watched over the years can't be seen again, at least not until they get licensed for streaming or something. I never really noticed the merch thing either, but now that I think about it, I can't remember seeing anything with Sazae-san on it despite its popularity. Really cool list, never heard of any of these mysteries before.
I have never even heard of the show before! That’s probably because I’m American, and I don’t watch anime in general, but I still found it very interesting.
If the show has been this popular, it must be archived by the TV channel, but very rarely reaired due to contractual obligation with the creator. On my part, I'd much prefer to see the second longest running show "Manga Mukashibanashi" translated. Because a lot of very well known artists, like Kawajiri, worked on single episodes. Also, MM presents the Japanese folklore extensively.
I understand it was basically her will. But as a creator and history aficionado, the idea of allowing one's work being a one time occurrence to never repeat is simply disturbing. I will never understand her ways.
The keypad from Maniac Mansion is actually just a leftover from the DOS version. In that version of the game, the steel security door would be locked and would need unlocking by inputting a password on the keypad. This password would be found on the game's manual, because it was meant to be a form of copy protection. The NES version seems to have moved the keypad rather than completely deleted it. The Pepsi thing was an early idea for the game. During the game's climax, Dr. Fred starts a self-destruct sequence. You can also interact with a vending machine there and obtain a can of Pepsi. Originally, reading the can of Pepsi would yield a long string of numbers that could be inputted into one of the machines, which would in turn... do absolutely nothing, because it was a red herring; there's a different way to stop the self-destruct sequence. This was considered to be too cruel on the player, and the final release of the game doesn't have the number string.
Hey there. I might have an old VHS tape with recordings of some of the Rumuald the raindeer episodes. I think the babysitter episode and one where a reality show is being filmed at the raindeer family. Sadly they are Danish dubs. Feel free to message me.
UPDATE: I have searched and found some old tapes at my parent's attic, one of them might be the one, the lable is barely deciferable, but I think it says "Hjælp! Jeg er et monster!/Rensdyret Rumle". These are the danish titles of the canadian show, "Monster by Mistake" and then "Rumuald the raindeer", and I vaguely remember the two shows airing back to back during christmas season, I think 1998 or 1999. Sadly, the tape is infested with some sort of white mold. I got a VCR from the second hand store, but the tape seems damaged won't play anything but static. Is there a way to restore damaged tapes like this?
Hey I think I have some lost media. There was a ninja turtles flash game on nick.com in the early 2010s (I wanna say 2012 or 2013) where it took place in the labs of the kraang, (a race of aliens in the show that fought the turtles), and you mutated people in to different animals to train and upgrade. There were different animals to choose from, the ones I remember are crab, fish, frog, polar bear, and rhino, but there’s probably more I can’t remember. Your mutants could participate different exercises and mini games such as swimming, jumping platform to platform, destroying targets of the ninja turtles, burping to destroy glass bottles, and probably more I can’t think of. I know you could upgrade your mutants by increasing stats, adding armor, and buying a crystal that would go in your mutants chest. I don’t remember the name, nor have I been able to find it on any Nick websites, flash game archives, or gameplay of it on RU-vid. If I had to guess the name it probably has the word mutant or mutation in the title somewhere.
@@nightwarper1760 There's a lot of lost media from the old Nickelodeon website, so many flash games, forums for the different shoes, and a Habbo Hotel-like feature where people could make an account and get items for a custom character/room that others could interact with.
"Skrillex has a long list of unreleased songs" As an EDM fan, that's normal. One of my fav DJs is still playing an ID that he's been spinning for two years. They'll be on the album. Whenever that gets done.
As a musician, I have wayyyy more unreleased songs than released songs. A lot of them are just not up to my standards. Just the moment you play them live as a "deep cut" or late at a bar then they qualify as lost media.
Cries in Drum n Bass dubplates that will never be released, but very big dj seems to have on vinyl, like Circles (Pola & Bryson Remix) or the WHOLE ALBUM of leaked Bad Company UK remixes/reworks
My theory for the Manic Mansion Easter Egg is that it's just a cheeky joke to trick people, so whenever people interacted with it the mansion would blow up as bait and switch joke.
I’m finding it hard to find new lost media videos watched every video by garethfires videos on lost media blameitojorge lost media videos all of all things lost videos
Honestly, theres SO much lost media out there that kinda just seems to never get reported mostly because people don't care to look for it. I know a huge amount of music and old black and white movies, esp horror ones, got lost. Even just a few years ago a music place burnt down that did vinyl creation and we lost some interesting stuff there.
Nya, everyone has at least a couple of series, books, movies, songs, video games, etc. for which you cannot find information. In recent years I have managed to unravel some of my personal mysteries but I still have many to solve. (Including a very strang cartoon short in which Jesus Christ is transformed into a terrifying giant fly. By any chance, you won't remember seeing something like that, right?) Rescuing lost content is one of the reasons I collect VHS footage from television. Not many people understand it but in many cases that is the last vestige of things that nobody remembers.
The information about the Maniac Mansion "easter egg" has been known for well over a decade. The Commodore 64 version of the game had a nude statue in the area of the keypad of the NES game. Actually, all versions of the game except for the NES game include the nude statue in the same spot. Nintendo censors didn't want a nude statue in the game, so the programmers removed it at the last minute. They replaced the sprite of the nude statue with sprites that matched the background. They simply changed the assets of the sprite into a keypad which would end the game. The reason it ends the game is because it is left over code from the DOS version of the game which needed a security code to pass the steel door of that room. The DOS version included keys in the physical release that players would need to enter to continue the game. It was early piracy protection back then. You had to own the game to enter the key or else the game would end. There are lots of well known sources for all of this. The 16th issue of Nintendo Power is about Maniac Mansion. The screenshots in the magazine were from a prototype promotional version of the game that included the nude statue and various other items that Nintendo censors ended up removing from the final product. The ROM of this prototype has been dumped to the public and can be played if you Google enough to find a download of it. Another source is from one of the programmers of the NES port of the game, Douglas Crockford. He wrote an article many years ago about the troubles Lucasarts had with Nintendo censors. The article is called The Expurgation of Maniac Mansion and can be found on his website at www.crockford.com/maniac.html There are lots of hidden sprites in the background of the NES version of the game. This keypad isn't the only one. For example, Weird Ed's bedroom wall also has a hidden sprite that Nintendo censors wanted removed. The programmers removed the graphic but kept the asset programmed in the game.
My favourite piece of lost media comes straight from my childhood and doesn't have a lost media wiki page. It's a Saturday and Sunday morning TV show called Smile that aired on BBC1 and CBBC and I believe later BBC2 in the UK. It was the birthplace of popular kids character Nev the Bear who would later star in Bear Behaving Badly (all episodes of this show appear to be available on RU-vid). Kids were invited to participate in a boys Vs girls challenge that typically involved playing flash games from their website, most if not all of which still survive. It aired live, hence why it's lost today.
During COVID-19, Fuji Television Network said they would be broadcasting re-runs of Sazae-San instead of creating new episodes. There. Now you have your lost episodes.
A couple of lesser known lost media examples for you: Heard the British comedian Frank Skinner talking about how the second series of his sitcom 'Shane' was filmed and edited, then never broadcast. Also, the final series of the British, Michael Barrymore version of Kids Say the Darndest Things ('Kids Say the Funniest Things') was filmed but never aired due to the host being involved in a tabloid scandal just prior to it's planned air date.
That last image for Blackenstein (or whatever the movie name was) was from the 1970s sitcom Sanford and Son. The episode involves a martial arts master teaching the character Lamont how to fight.
@@icantthinkofanything798 ehhh a bit silly on his part i have like 5 backups of even the littlest things I care about my man skrillex is extremely careless

Maniac Mansion's keypad is a mistaken holdover from the MS-DOS version of the game. At the top of the staircase is a "Steel Security Door" which just opens without issue in the NES, but in the DOS version this is where the keypad is. Inside the box that the DOS version of game came in was a brochure for a fake home security company which just so happened to have the correct code in it, which would then open the door and allow you to progress normally. Other commenters have pointed out that in the place where the broken keypad is there used to be a nude sculpture that Nintendo didn't want in the game. Somehow some wires got crossed and what wound up happening is the statue was replaced with an invisible sprite that activated the copy protection keypad. Seeing as how this routine doesn't exist in the NES game, there is no valid code for this keypad (the player character even interacts with it incorrectly, they walk up to the door of the arcade room to "use" it). Technically there is a code for this keypad that is initialized upon starting the game but there is no way to know what the code is without using a hex editor or memory viewer to see it. Inputting the "valid" code does nothing. Source: Interview with the developer, The Cutting Room Floor, and all the time my father spent trying to figure the damn keypad out.
One Piece: has around 900+ episodes Sazae-san: Let me introduce myself. Edit: I looked up how many episodes Sazae-san actually has and it is over 7000.
I didn't even know "lost media" was really a thing until a few weeks ago and I'm so glad that there are people out there searching for art that has gone missing. The one thing I remember from my childhood that has barely any record of existing is this extreme sports video called "My Way" made by the apparel brand Arnette. I won the VHS from a local skate shop and finding any information about it these days comes back with almost nothing. I wish I could at least find a list of the songs used for the soundtrack, they were cool :(
To add to the music lost media- As far as I know I'm one of the only people other than the artist and their management to be in possession of a legitimate copy of "Aurora" by RL Grime. He put it out on RU-vid, soundcloud, and spotify but hasnt officially released it or distributed it. All other versions floating around are (to my knowledge) rips of the audio from his social media, and not the original studio quality file of the song. I got it from his management as a thank you after writing a couple articles about reims and Stay with me when they came out
Romuald the Reindeer also has a CD-ROM called CD-ROMUALD that was distributed in both English and Welsh to schools in what I assume was the late 1990s. Copies of it can be found on various online stores, mainly through suppliers of Welsh educational resources. I played the Welsh version as a youngster in Primary School, and I remember that it had animated scenes available as unlockables for doing tasks. Maybe some of those were from lost episodes? I only found out the name of the CD-ROMUALD recently, after casually looking for it for about a decade.
I bet the story tor that Christopher Columbus game is about Columbus on his voyage to the Americas (or wherever it was he was originally going) but somewhere a storm happens (in a cliche fashion lol) and he ends up going through different time periods or alternate realities or whatever to battle the mammoths, dragons, and sea creatures. LOL.
just so people seeing this know they have figured out how to get the code its in the ram and you can find it by checking the right address and it seems like it is just a left over from the dos version's anti-piracy protection source: tcrf.net/Maniac_Mansion_(NES,_USA)
I’ve spent so much time looking for a sing-a-long vhs I watched all the time as a kid. It was a group of kids that were being shown all about western culture by a cowboy dog. The thing I remember most vividly was a scene where all the kids and the dog sat around a campfire singing “one, two, buckle my shoe”... Anyone have any idea, or have I lost my mind? haha
Just discovered your channel and love it. If you ever do another 10 lesser known pieces, you should include the unreleased and possibly lost film from the 90s, The New Jersey Turnpikes starring Kelsey Grammer. I've never heard anyone else on RU-vid talk about it. Keep up the great work!
Can someone help me find this comic? I remember going on DeviantArt one day, and stumbling upon a black and white dark fan comic of Zootopia around in the early 2010's, or so I think. Here's the details. The Art style was very similar to that awful “I will survive” fan comic. The main character and main villain were OC's, as well as a few others, but characters from the movie also appeared. It took place in Zootopia, but it was quite different, as there were several levels. The top level had humans, which secretly ruled over Zootopia and lived in wealth. Then the next level had mammals, and was the same setting as movie Zootopia. The next level had birds and reptile, who were treated like freaks and lived in poverty. Under that, there were bugs, arachnids, fish, and sponges, who lived in terrible conditions, and were actually used as slaves, Judy even had one. Outside of that, were the "Ferals" animals who weren't anthropomorphic, but had abilities, like fire breathing, and electricity conducting. It's revealed that the humans preformed experiments on the animals, resulting in them either becoming sentient, or gaining abilities. The main character was a Gharial, (Which is basically a crocodile with a long snout) named... actually, I don't remember his name, but I think it might have been Snout, which is what I'll be calling him. Snout was a vigilante killer, who wore a goofball facade most of the time. He was incredibly muscular, and wore a vest. He lived in the reptile and bird level, but would travel to the mammal level, to commit his killings. The main villain was a horsefly named Scourge. At the beginning, he was Mr. Big's right hand, but killed him, hesitantly, and later took over the underworld. His goal was to make life easier for birds, reptiles, fish, sponges, insects, and arachnids. He killed Nick, and was incredibly remorseful over it. He later dies in Snout's arms, and his goal becomes accomplished, and equality happens for all. Like Snout, he was incredibly ripped, and wore fancy suits. He also kills all the humans. Judy becomes depressed after Nick's death, and starts eating to dull the pain, resulting in her becoming 300 pounds or something. She buys a slave cockroach, naming him Roachy. Roachy was probably my favorite character, and was really sweet. He was rather short, and acted more like a little kid. Judy wasn't cruel to him. She also, by the time of the series, is the police commissioner. Ask me anything. If I can remember, I'll tell ya. Edit: Okay, I do remember a sub plot, about Gazelle and a Centipede country singer falling in love, and dating. Also, Snout’s first kill is the Rhino Cop who bullies Judy in the film, who’s incredibly corrupt here. It’s clearly inspired by Rorschach’s first kill. Edit 2: Actually, my bad. I got the dates confused. I remember seeing the fan comic in early 2019 or so. Also, some other things I remember was that at the end, Roachy gets his freedom, and marries Judy. Snout later goes to jail for his killings, but only serves 2 years and a month. He then gets released and becomes a powerful politician.
Hey, here's one you probably never heard of: Stereotype (2007) and Wolf (2010, not the 2013 album) by Tyler, the Creator. Tyler hasn't released anything from it. He has released some work in progress from later albums (Best Interest intended for IGOR 2019) but none for the albums mentioned. I would personally consider Tron Cat and Fish from the Wolf tracklist on the lost media wiki page to not be lost at all as it was just the early versions reworked into the tracks of the same names on Goblin in 2011. Would love to see you talk about this lesser known piece of lost media.
Skrillex lost a whole album due to possible haters of his music, how lame honestly, but maybe now he backs all his stuff up heavily to a cloud and a special server he's got that he can access anywhere
How is getting your laptop stolen and losing all your hard work lame? Just imagine if you had a device stolen and you lost all your work. Although I wouldn't be surprised if he now backed up all his stuff.
I don't recall anything that happened in Romuald The Reindeer but coming across this thumbnail! Seeing that Reindeer with the ponytail, seeing the clips you used in this video unlocked a memory I had long forgotten! I'm sure he was voiced by someone who was in "The Young Ones"... that bbc sitcom with Rik Mayall? I can't remember his name but I saw him when he was Tracy's dad on the WestEnd run of Hairspray
There is a completed documentary about the band Devo that was made in the early 2010s (when Devo was touring their return album Something for Everybody) that has never seen the light of day. It even had backers on Kickstarter to get completed and to get the TV footage secured for use in the film. Alan Myers (Devo's drummer from the late 70s to the mid 80s) and Bob Casale were interviewed for the film before their passing. To this day only a few trailers have been released and the filmmakers have gone completely quiet. The story goes that Mark Mothersbaugh was given complete legal control over its release and apparently refused the director's several edits of the film and quietly shelved it for unknown reasons. Rumours were that he didn't want the band's former drug use to be referenced, among other issues, but nobody really knows what's going on and he hasn't said anything about the film in public.
The keypad from Maniac Mansion is just the copy protection system on the very first release of the game. You had to check use a decoding disc with the manual or something along those lines and input the code in the game or you wouldn't be able to progress further. This was removed in later releases of the game. I have no idea why the keypad is still in the NES version of the game but I'd guess it's just a leftover that got carried over when they were porting it.
some lesser known media i enjoy is that one unreleased gurren lagann pc game, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann: Transcendental Excavation. it was cancelled because it prevented windows from starting up, rebooting, and updating, effectively bricking pcs once you installed it. there's a few screenshots, but no gameplay or many things online talking about it. it's kinda fascinating in my opinion.
I actually got something I want to tell you. A few years back Tim Allen made this short film for Comedy Central is called "See What I say". It's basically somewhere between his stand up comedy and Home Improvement. Most important it hasn't been seen since. I have been looking for a couple of years and can not find a single copy anywhere.
Fascinating video! I do wanna say, the track that plays at 10:48 (when the "10" appears) sounds like the Trash Taste intro. @@mandyfrommars8789 yes there is indeed an missing pilot for Fish Hooks! To summarize there is a pilot for fish hooks that was made in 2009 (which is about a year before the first episode of season 1 came out since the first episode came out in 2010) and from a website I found (I will link it in the end if you want to read more about it) states this pilot is about 5 minutes long and in the original pilot Bea was voiced by the voice actress in the show (which is Chelsea Kane) however the voices of Milo, Oscar, and a few other characters are unclear and according to the website pretty much the pilot had the same energy as the actual show but the main difference for the pilot compared to the actual show is the designs are different (for example Milo was taller than Oscar where as in the show it’s the other way around and Milo had longer fins and Oscar is a bit chubbier). Lastly I want to add is that the only footage we do have for this lost pilot is that there is a five second promo of the lost pilot which is dubbed in Spanish (cause it was aired on Disney Channel Latin America) but other than that everything about this pilot is lost. Dude, its weird that the people listed Columbus as a hero. I assume most of you know, but in case you do not, here is a short summery. Columbus finds land which most people did not know. But, the land was already had people living there. So what did Columbus do? He enslaves the natives, and many die due to becoming ill. If this makes you rest easier, Columbus was found guilty of crimes and was jailed.
@@psychobilly42069 Oh, get off it. Every nation on Earth since pre-history was "built on genocide". Including pre-Columbian Americas, wherein at least three separate waves of humans in the past 12 - 20000 years invaded and slaughtered their predecessors. The only thing different about modern America is that we *ended* slavery here... although it is still openly practiced elsewhere in the world to this day. Slavery and genocide are part of the human condition, and always has been. Probably always will be.
