Truth. Those working in the MSM have pretty much given up on objective reporting - they are now mere lickspittles. Use of the term 'gaslighting' is a powerful and accurate way to describe precisely the game being played since what they have been doing to us since March 2020. More than just the untruths we had come to expect prior to this period, we must now stay alert to this more sinister psychological effect being wrought. We must ask ourselves, why and to what end are such widespread practices being carried-on? Here in the UK it's the same thing. What with all the warring that's going on, on top of the dire economic situation, people are resorting to a sort of blinkering-up; discussion is of anything but these matters. But I think silently and in isolation, people know that what is coming is not good. We all know that the chances of things getting better, are zero, despite the back-slapping and the encouraging tones set by those in the media bubble. We literally have the street receipts to refute all of their claims. It's heartening though, to know that there are those really in the know who are with us and 'on it' so to speak. Thank you for speaking out.

When people are talking about inflation, they are NOT talking year to year. They are talking pre-COVID to present. These mainstream media people like parsing words and give a bunch of "word salad". At the end of the day, people were paying on average pre-COVID $25k for a car and $275k for a home. NOW $55k for a car and $475-500k for a home (excluding all the other items that went up with the 4 year period). That's why people are upset 😠.

Gaslighting!!?? So very true DDB. Here in Alberta (even though we are supposedly the most prosperous province in canada), I will share a story. Recently my truck broke down and I had to have it hauled home. During the trip, chatting with the tow truck driver, he said that he has seen repo's of vehicles triple in the last year. He has to have the sheriff attend each repo with him. Are we being gaslighted here, even in Alberta - you bet!

I have a buddy who lost his career of 35 years to AI. He's a hard worker, intelligent, totally dependable, a wife and three kids, but he's also over 50. He's applied for nearly every job that he can find an advertisement for; those related to his former career, plus retail, hotel staff, flight attendant, bus driver, you name it. IF he gets a reply, it's almost always "you're overqualified".

My company just defaulted "extend and pretend" owned by Private equity. leveraged the company to the gills to acquire competitions etc Bit over a billion in debt.... and I am sure nothing in the bank. Read the credit report after the selected default and extending out maturity a year. 50 million revolver only 5 million left. Small/medium business are screwed.

In the early 80s when interest rates rose over 15%, wages also rose to keep pace and there was less debt in the system. Today wages are stagnant and consumer debt is through the roof...even a single percent increase is close to unmanageable

@@mr.g1758 Nope, the recession (which may well already be here) is front run by supply side contraction. The government/Fed will print and spend to infinity to delay any debt crisis, and ultimately they will inflate govt debt away (which means inflating middle class pensions away). Inflation can always be blamed on 'greedy' capitalists rather than accepting any blame for incompetence or corruption...

@@sbain844 I understand your idea but interest on debt was $450 billion three years ago. It's $1 trillion now. In three more years one half of our debt matures and it will reprice from 1% to 5%, which will add another $700 billion to the tab. It's rising faster than they can service, and will be the largest budget item by then. They will try inflating it for a while but compound interest will outstrip our ability to keep kicking the can down the road. It's going to be ugly and take years to recover.

@@mr.g1758 You're on the right track, and I agree that the debt will become impossible to service. However, you seem to think that this will lead government to do the responsible thing and cut spending to get the budget deficit (and debt accumulation) under control. I believe that we are already far beyond the point of no return on that. It's really just a matter of how the government will default on its debt. It could simply refuse to pay, or it could nominally pay by printing new money (accepting the sky high inflation that would follow). Inflation erodes the value of bonds - these are not like commercial loans with variable interest rates, they have fixed rates (called coupons). You may have heard of rising yields on long bonds, but those yields do not rise because of rising bond 'coupons', they rise indirectly via the value of the bond falling. This is always how governments get rid off their debts when they get out of control. If they do the right thing and cut the deficit, you will be right and a deflationary recession will follow - but don't bet on that happening.

Prices rose 20-30 % 2 years in a row. Wages not any where near that much. For those at the bottom who live pay check to pay check they bear the full effect of those increases. Food, rent , energy, insurance and tansportation the highest increases. Inflation a stealth tax on everyone.

If inflation was measured with the same items measured in the CPI in the 1980's, there would be less gaslighting. The CPI does include food, fuel and rents--everything that is increasing for the people--not the corporations or the wealthy. Also what the FED measures has a "lag effect!"

Easy money over an extended period has conditioned people to be weak. Slight pain feels like the end of the world if you don't have a backbone. The loss of purchasing power sucks. However, government funded media and news articles that are sponsored by banks will make the pain seem a multitude worse. Why do they do this? Because it is in the governments/banks best interests for rates to be cut. Who's expense does this come at? The middle class and the poor. Danielle also uses financial gaslighting too. She makes it seem like the sky is falling. If you think this is pain, you haven't seen nothing yet. Americans have had it so easy for so long that they don't even know what pain means. CPI and the ever changing basket/weighting of goods/services is another form of financial gaslighting that understates real inflation.
