Kouros was the first fragrance I spent my own hard earned money on…such an evocative fragrance.

80s classics i still use and have, in vitange form : Dior Jules, Trussardi Uomo, Jazz YSL, YSL Haute concentration, Ferre, Trophee Lancome, Arrogance pour homme, Antaeus, Kouros charles of the Ritz....i was around and it was pure heaven....and more and more...imo 80s scents rules them all..

Probably one of the most knowledgeable videos I’ve seen. Chris turned me on to the Aramis Gentlemen collection in particular Devin & Havana. Going to be checking out a lot of these. I have Oscar Pour Lui and it’s timeless. Have Versace l’homme also and the dry down is one of the best.

I weared lot of 80's fragrances (Drakar Noir, Kouros, Tuscany Aramis, Armani pour homme) but the only tow that I didn't stop wearing and my favorites are 1- Jazz YSL (still a signature perfum) 2- Versace, and I love it to the point that I never tried any other one. Thank You for this beautiful review by 2 of the masters in the fragrance community. Note: I stopped following lot of reviewers because of the boring top 10 where each time they changed a couple of fragrances, and say the same stuff. Both of you are an added value to the fragrance world ❤❤

As a 80s baby this was a instant like from me 🔥✅ this decade and the 70s had the best powerhouse masculine woody/green scents. My Top 3: 1) Green Irish Tweed, 2) Obsession, 3) Fahrenheit

I consider the Oscar de la Renta Pour Lui a masterpiece & timeless and I just have current version, can’t even imagine the vintage.

Great, just great!!! My honest and deep respect to both of you gentlemen. Now Chris, may be you are the only person who can shine a light on this. It is about Sergio Soldano Black. You have introduced fragrance community with this frag and now is available everywhere. But it is now produced by the parent company Fine Fragrance which is based also in Italy. The smell, well it is harsh lemon, grapefruit in the opening with really bitter arthemisia. It is reminiscent of Denim orginal. Is this the same scent you have? Because everybody are now after this Soldano. Best regards, Vlada

SCENT LAND.......The land of scents! Always like watching Chris he's very knowledgeable and always really interesting to hear him talking about some great classics and rare fragrances.

I started High School in 1981 and two years prior to that is when I really said fragrances just click for me and that all started with Grey Flannel! .. How lucky was I to have become a young man, a husband, and a father in the decade that is the greatest decade ever! the 80s!! and all of these glorious colognes and eau de toilettes! most of which I am sitting here smelling as you guys are presenting them... God what a fun decade that was! Never again, sad to say!!! Thank you Dan and thank you Chris for highlighting ,well, ....fragrance history!

I remember very well those days wearing very short polyester shorts with trim that was usually white, with a white polo shirt, and the terry cloth wrist and headbands! I was in college. My fitness loving musician friends and I would troupe over to the university gymnasium one evening per week to the racquetball courts and go at it for a couple of hours! It was great fun, and always good for some major bruising and comparing of said bruises the next day! Love it guys! Lisa

Budapest...what a unique city...and the weather there is just perfect for sharing all kind of frags

Fantastic fantastic vid Dan. From the instant Chris mentioned Estee's husband it was a cert. JHL not so easy find these days at a great price, but easily my favourite of the Aramis line. Cinnabar vibes fo sho. The Man Silver from Milton Lloyd the poor man's day-wear vintage Kouros and super cheap too if you can't find the silver collar version. Among my favs from the decade - Green Irish Tweed, the very FIRST Adidas (1985), Boss Sport, Obsession, and a pretty rare one if you can find it - Archange Pour Homme. Nice and spicy one hit wonder. So far my interview of the year!

I will tell you this Mr Smelly 1977.....If i had to pick too Fragrance reviewers to keep doing reviews because RU-vid said people had to pick too fragrance guys to stay YOU would be one of them guys...Why because your awesome and very good at what you do.....You and Frag-Mental rock the house.....I always looking forward to watching your great reviews...And soon i will be purchasing your fragrance...Keep being Mr Smelly cause your awesome...Great review....maybe it would be 3 cause i cant leave out robes that guy is awesome to.........

Great video. I'm a big fan of 80's powerhouses. I've recently been wearing Etienne Aigner's Silver. Highly recommended, if you can find it.

I only got Fahrenheit just recently and it's become one of my all time favourites alongside Platinum Egoiste.

I agree with you two, so much of the content is very samey, which is why I prefer the folk (including yourselves) who talk about more obscure/forgotten/discontinued scents from less 'trendy' (or expensive lol) brands if possible.

I decide whether their taste in fragrances is close to mine, or if they are able to inspire me to try new fragrances. If so, I will remain loyal to them for many years. Dan, I adore your sense of humor and your passion for vintage masculine fragrances, and your new content which explores the lives of other reviewers and even perfumers in a really wonderful, more intimate way. We really need a Fragrance that smells like fresh cut Alfalfa ....Like a hot summer day after you bailed a full wagon on beautiful hay bails...It reminds me of growing up on the farm bailing hay or playing in the hay loft....I love the smell of fresh cut Alfalfa...........

I have a vintage bottle JHL from 1984, its awesome! Bought it in Germany, 150 ml bottle for DM150. Reminds me of Pardon by Nasomatto, just better!

Well if I was playing along, my choice would be Calvin by Calvin Klein, but it's not currently available. So going by your rules, I would pick Zino Davidoff.

At 19:35, Smelly and Scentland discuss the purchasing of Aramis JHL. Scentland mentions it's available on Notino as of this writing. I checked and it's about £71. It's the only flanker for which I don't have a full bottle but I think I have a small 15 ml gift set bottle from the 1990's. I don't think it's ever really been discounted like Havana, New West, 900 or Tuscany. I've only seen it in major dept. stores here in the USA and they're all out of stock. I don't think Estee Lauder is currently producing any Aramis flanker. If Chris checks his bottle of JHL, he might find that the batch date is 2014 or earlier when there wasn't a serious limit on oakmoss. That's why he says it's so strong. I still have plenty left from the bottle of Kouros I bought in 1988 or so. I used to wear it alot back then, but like with everything else, once another favorite comes along, the older bottle is off to the side. For me, it was probably Lagerfeld Photo.

Shame the Enrico Coveri POUR HOMME is not available in the US...Shipping to get it is 3X the price of the bottle.

Haha, two giants from the RU-vid fragrance reviews community talking about my favoruite fragrance (and not only fragrance) era in 1 video for an hour - can it get any better than that!?!? :) You should make this type of videos more often - long conversations about 80s fragrances - I know that this isn't quite what gets a lot of views, as you said, but fuck it - there are still people that do dig this kind of content!

My favourites, in order (from my 'teens), Antaeus, Nina Ricci Phileas, Allure Homme Edition Blanche, and Creed Green Irish Tweed. I tried a few from Guerlain, including Mouchoir de Monsieur, (largely as a result of the brand history) but found them too heavy/floral for me!
