In 2005 McLaren was much faster than Renault at the expense of reliability. 2005 was a well deserved championship for Alonso, Renault being much more conservative with the engine.
@@Garvm I'd argue that both Kimi and Alonso deserved both the 2005 and 2007 championships each. Alonso was mistreated by McLaren in 2007, and Kimi drove much better than anyone else in 2005, including Alonso, but that McLaren like you said was sacrificing reliability. I think every F1 fan genuinely thinks Kimi would've deserved to win at least 3-5 championships (some also include 2012 and/or 2018), same as every F1 fan also genuinely thinks Alonso would've deserved at least one more championship. But there were only so many seasons in that era, and somebody had to draw the short end of the stick...
Kimi is my favorite. Not only because of his racing but his personality. Don't ask a question you don't want an honest answer to. Most of the drivers are groomed from a young age to be politically correct ect... Kimi had a better way. Press: kimi what happen our there? Straight faced monotone Kimi: I spun. Nothing else he wasted no words and don't wast his time if a stupid question was asked like his last signing if he still had the drive the hunger to race he said No I signed for another 2 yrs to mess with your heads. He has walked out after questions that were not worth answering. With a look of disbelief on his face. He was tiered of things said being twisted around ect. So he made it hard to twist his words and became one of the most universally loved drivers ever across the world.
Somehow I've always ended up cheering for the finns; first Häkkinen, then Kimi and when he "quit"(for 2 yrs only, thankfully) Kovalainen. And of course I not only cheered for him, Kimi, again when he came back, I also followed him during his career outside F1 during those 2yrs, which I normally don't do. In rallying there's only been one fav. for me: "Mr.Maximum Attack" Tommi Mäkinen. Except for when Kimi made his rallying... 😁😎👍
There's one race missing, that in my opinion belongs to the list of his best races. It's either 2008 or 2009 in Fuji, Japan. They were driving in monsoon rain and Kimi started from 22nd place and finished on 3rd. He even almost got the 2nd place, fighting for it against Heikki Kovalainen til the last lap, with the better end for Heikki. He overtook several other drivers on the outer line in a long fast corner. It was pretty impressive, because the Ferrari wasn't that good in that season.
"He's always coming from behind." - Erh, no, you're watching a video with moments of "brilliance", meaning you're _seeing_ the races where that was the case. Of course he also had races where he started on pole and finished 2nd, 3rd oder failed to finish the race. ;) It's always difficult to consider a whole career by only watching the highlights. But the real highlights with Kimi are his best radio or interview moments. :) (Apart from being a wonderful and truly brilliant racer, of course.)
@@sneakysnake4466 How many are "a lot" for you? He has 21 wins in F1. I'm a fan of Kimi's, mind you, I just find it hilarious when people who are watching the absolute highlights of a career are astounded that the highlights are, well, highlights. :)
@@fryke well for example, Vettel the four time world champion has never won a race starting from outside the top 3. Alonso and Kimi share the most wins from outside the top three with both having eight and only 12 driver's have ever won a race outside the top three. And as seen here Kimi also has a few wins from outside the top 5. I think it's safe to say he has a lot of them compared to other driver's
@@MrRolle-zf6dk Sure. Of course a highlights reel won't state he was a bad qualifier, then. ;) Please accept, that I was merely pointing out that watching highlight videos gives somewhat skewed impressions.
@@fryke Yeah obviously highlight reels give a skewed perspective, but that doesn't take away from the fact that he won races a lot from behind compared to other drivers
5:00 yeah, that was absolutely crazy. Ten places in a single lap with one of the worst cars on the grid. In one word: unbelievable. Easily one of the best opening laps in any grand prix to date.
@@ugo4646 He even took 5th for like 2-3 turns during the 2nd lap, momentarily overtaking Max Verstappen, who at the time was in the 2nd strongest car on the grid. This Portugal 2020 opening lap of Kimi is one of the greatest opening laps of all time of any driver.
