the "ease into it" is key imo. Do not be afraid to go on the road once you have your license but do not rush into high-speed situations... I started by riding around my neighborhood for a day.. the next I went onto a higher speed road at 50km/hr and after perusing around on those roads for awhile (that massively expanded the area I could go alone) I then started hitting 70-80km/hr roads for a few weeks and finally hit the open high-way/country roads (everyone pretty much drives at the same speeds on either) and then I started working on my ability to handle those speeds on a naked bike since, well, you get a lot of wind and the open country roads tend to have a lot of cross-winds... it's interesting, lets put it that way. Obey the speed limit + 10%.

my first bike is my yamaha sr400. in the 20's for horsepower which has been plenty of power and I can go 90 no problem with it on the highway (aside from redlining due to only having 5 gears). this is such a nice bike I'm keeping it forever, even if I do get another bike (maybe adv/dirt for offroading). it's a bike that proves you don't need 50+ hp
@Dangerwiggles

KLR650 is barely any HP and mine would go 90mph in 5 gears. HP doesn't matter.

Got my first bike a few months ago, a GSR 600. Quickly learned to respect motorcycles because it was way too fast for a beginner like myself. After spending a few weekends in a parking lot practicing I eventually got the hang of it. You can start on anything if you have the right mindset!

I bought a 05 vtx 1300 as my first bike. I got through the wrenching and swearing to get it running good. The less than 60hp thing made me feel better after everyone said congratulations on getting a bike but ONE person shamed me for getting a liter bike

I bought my first bike last week….riding is therapy riding is just what this vet needed….I have a ninja 300 and as a beginner I recommend nothing higher than a 600..also ride within your abilities….be patient….trouble will find you so fast on a bike. Respect the machine…..

I started on a hawk 250 about a month ago. I got the bike to go to school and work which is 30 minutes on the freeway. The only thing i really like about the bike is that due to the horrible reliability i get to learn a lot about working on bikes. However redlining the bike on the freeway only to go 60 in a 65 is not comfortable at all. The duke 200 i looked at before would even be more comfortable i bet.

However, when I had a mechanical failure in Irvine, triple a jerked me around for 6 hours, until finally they said they couldn't tow me because I didnt have the right membership.

I've got a couple of questions for any veteran riders that may read this. Does riding ever lose it's sense of excitement? Do you get as much of a thrill riding now as opposed to your first ride?
@brucenaremore3433
@brucenaremore3433 Год назад
Curious what others say - there is never going to be the excitement of first riding, learning, anxiety and then succeeding and building confidence - but then you can start ENJOYING the ride and your surroundings, being outside with nature, smells, views etc.. My 2 cents.
@wolfman1662
@wolfman1662 Год назад
@@brucenaremore3433 I'm planning on doing the course this summer through my local Harley Davidson dealership.
@Dangerwiggles
@Dangerwiggles Год назад
I equated excitement with being secretly nervous or scared. Yes the excitement fades, because it gets a lot less scary as you get more skilled- but it just feels like the most natural thing you've ever done. If I'm not riding, I'm not happy. And the best thing is.. if the street is losing the appeal go to the track and open up a CRAZY AWESOME world.
@roberthansen9876

Let me put it this way. When I was a teenager and got my first car I remember the freedom and independence I felt and driving it just to drive it. But that wears off quickly and your car, while still useful and required, sits in your driveway unless needed. But I (at 60) still ride my bike just to ride it. Even when you are riding just to get from point A to point B, you get the rush as an added bonus. And I don't mean riding reckless. Just accelerating from 0 to 70 on a highway is similar to the drop on a rollercoaster, with the wind rushing at you. And you don't have to go to the level of "twisties" to enjoy the dynamics of a motorcycle in curves. Any curve feels neat on a motorcycle. You are obviously more connected to the experience of movement and speed on a motorcycle than in a car. I have been fortunate and never felt the need to push my luck and ride recklessly on a bike. I ride on the interstate at 80 to 90 no problem, but with the rest of the traffic, like I do in my car. I am not passing everything and having "close calls". If you are having close calls, you are doing something wrong.:) In any event, I am fortunate that I have not had any accidents, because that usually ends the thrill real quick. When I was younger I was on the back of my friend's bike and he wrecked at a pretty good speed, and so I do know what it feels like, but he was pretty reckless (and I guess I was stupid to ride with him as well). I've since known the difference between those who use a bike to fulfill a death wish versus those who just enjoy riding a bike. Anyways, I find riding a bike in the same manner as I drive my car to be more exciting. But if you mean thrill as in pushing the limits, I can't think of anything more dangerous to get that kind of "thrill" from, than a motorcycle. I guess base jumping beats it.

Hey Yammie what do you think of the Benelli 600i and the 752s?
@linomoto
@linomoto Год назад
The 752S is surprisingly reliable, sounds good and has a good power band. A tad too heavy, you won't really feel it when moving above 30km/h, but in slow manoeuvres, you do feel the weight.

I'm a noob, so I wanted to ask this question. I haven't bought my first bike yet, but I took an MSF course and the only motorcycle in my house is my dad's 1990 CBR600cc supersport. Its carburated and I haven't tried riding it much since everyone says not to start on a 600. But its what's available to me and I'm wondering if I should just practice on it anyway? lol Or should I just bite the bullet and go buy an R3?
@theodorecalkins4212
@theodorecalkins4212 Год назад

@lucklesscomet4987
@lucklesscomet4987 Год назад
It's one of those questions where you have to actually ask yourself whether or not you're going to be a goon on the 600. You already know the answer if you seriously consider it, the question is whether or not you'll be able to control yourself from being a goon when you have the potential to be one.
@Dangerwiggles
@Dangerwiggles Год назад
If the CBR is in good condition don't practice on it. That's a collector's bike. You will lay it down at some point while learning. Don't buy new, either. I agree with yams that working on a bike instead of riding kind of sucks BUT getting a super cheap crap bike to really throw around and not care about dropping and testing (safe) limits is invaluable.
