Im pretty sure any desease can be contained handled by forcing infected people to stay at home while actually making sure of it by inducing punishment or just straight up execution on spot.

As a American citizen I can say that when it’s the Covid 19 we have to stay indoors for idk weeks maybe months idk but when it was cooling off we could go out some but we have to get shots a vaccine ect then about a year now we could finally take out masks off and breath the air in 2021 & 2022 (present day
As a New Zealander this is mostly true, we finished lockdown at Christmas/summer Hollidays 2020 so we really only had to be in lockdown for 9 months lol

istg I live in the USA and people are really not good with masks. I somehow managed to get covid TWICE despite wearing a mask EVERYWHERE, and being clean and cautious. I don't even know how but now I have a forever cough ever since I first got covid which was a bit less than a year ago and it sucks. If you haven't gotten covid yet, good job, I'm proud of you.

Counties like the U.K or germany had it a lot worse due to it being like 1/3 of their populations. Like, india and the usa had a bunch, but comparing it to their population, it is not that bad
