Turning Red is my favorite Pixar movie out’ve the newer releases .. I love the message of accepting new changes, being who you are and ultimately being you. It’s so relatable from being embarrassed, to having crushes, to being obsessed with some things ( I’m a directioner and ARMY ) so I definitely get the band obsession part. I also love the diversity, so many different races, ethnicities, and body types .. this movie really makes it hard for anyone to feel left out. That’s truly why I love this movie as much as I do, it’s also pretty funny, heartfelt and adorable. Plus the animation is great .. this is definitely a 9.5/10 Pixar movie for me.

Turning Red is a non-traditional Pixar film for better or for worse, and what manifests is a transparent story that transcends serious prevalent topics amongst the youth like teenage rebellion, maturation, adolescence, puberty, and generational heritage, and compiles it all into arguably the most dense expression to come from Pixar. It deserves 9.5/10.

Despite all that I swooned hard over him for 2 years, and when he got his braces off and came to school, oh my god I had that same feeling mei did in the hallway when she saw the emo boy. The people ( usually adults) who thought that the film was too grown up for kids are probably the same ones who think that sex ed shouldn't be taught in schools. With some girls starting puberty while still in elementary school ( as young as 8-9) it's important that they know that what they are going through is normal and that the mood changes are part and parcel of it. This is a light-hearted look at the onset of puberty from the POV of a girl from a strict family.

She never did that to me or my sister, but it was a discretion-is-key thing, so I never had to worry about her showing up with pads and embarrassing me. Me, however, I'm very open about my period and I've told plenty of kids in middle school when I was on it--much to the boys' horror/disgust.

Its interesting to see that the elders even tho having the option to keep their panda this time around gave up and did so again without reluctance. Along with seeing how ming tried to break away from her own mothers thumb, did so long enough to get married but still conformed. This I think is a movie where a sequel could be made and it would be good and not just pulled out of thin air like most are. There's still more to work with the story and characters.

As a 1.5 gen Chinese immigrant living in Toronto. This movie was very personal to me. I use to hide stuff and feelings from my mom. I had a group of real friends but none of them were mainstream “popular “ girl. My family always worry about how other ppl influence me. I never had the rebel phase. I felt like I’m in the “closet” with a lot of things and I started to develop a sense of self after meeting my husband, whom my family did not approve. East Asians value “saving face” more than authenticity and that’s why we bottle our feelings and occasionally become weird from that pressure.

Mei is just like me. So many problems I relate to. Between trying to be perfect, but growing into a new person. Trying to figure myself out. I just relate to it all.

I was actually born on April 8, 2003! Watching this movie was really cool because it reminded me of the year I was born in! It also….made me feel old as i’m about to turn 19! Besides that point, I relate to Mei wanting to be enough for her Mom because My Mom is the same with me! She was always protective over me and came to my defense when I needed it at school. I was made fun of as a kid for being different. Not being enough for my Mom is something as well. I have Aspergers and ADHD so i’ve always been the odd one out. Anyways, It’s a great movie!

This movie was fantastic, and I totally related to most of it. Mei's emotions causing her to turn into the red panda during her time of the month were the most relatable. I'm guessing I would be a brown bear, lol! Although I will need therapy for "did the red peony bloom," lmbo :)

Only those who get periods (and “the talk”) will catch the “now you’re a WOMAN” line. The entire team and direction is written by women, so that’s how it’s been really relatable for me. If you think anything is “fetishized” you really haven’t been online. Also, if you think the panda is only a metaphor for “sexuality” you’re like, projecting something. Would their shrine be dedicated to the uterus? please it’s an actual red panda-their family’s culture. 😔 we asian girls cant be represented without (typically westerners) sexualizing us. Also, it’s in CANADA, not USA so please set aside that “this isn’t the 90’s!” because this is drawn from a specific group’s experience. And if you’re mad about “not having a movie for boys!!” you did just have Luca and Coco.

I have an older cousin of mine that was born in 1993 and when I saw her on the middle of 2000s like the year of 2006, she usually reads stories about vampires in her collective pocketbooks. She is also addicted to boybands, and she always tells me about her childhood and teenage crushes. One time when I discovered her photo album, her high school life with her friends were memorable. They never left each other behind. She alongside my mom told my older sister who went puberty when she was 11 years old on how to deal with this situation by being more careful by herself. I say that this movie really refreshes me back to the 2000s, where all of my childhood were spent (I'm born in 2002) since I remembered one time my family used to play with VCDs and play some hit songs on the radio or in the MP3.

I love this movie so much from the story to the fact that the main character is a red panda one of my favorite animals ever. And I would love to say that the idea for Number three is extremely relatable. I would also like to say that I Adore the scene where mom is asking if that has happened or not and that is just walking backwards as if he wasn’t there lol. Also I do number one all the time. I will never apologize for being who I am because that’s all I can be. There is no such thing as normal so why try to be normal

The most relatable moment for me was whenever Mei’s mom yelled at her friends for taking “advantage of her” because my mom hates all my friends and thinks that I try to act like them. She thinks there “bad insurance” she thinks that because my friend said the word fuck 🙄

I went through the proper vampire phase: Anne Rice and Bram Stoker vampire novels. Mature reading instead of a sulky threeway wannabe romance with sprinkles of "action." I did give ALL the twilight saga a try. Was sorely let down.
