Thanks for compiling and sharing, John. Very nice pre war set. The DiMaggio and Williams cards are the two most favorites.

My pleasure Kevin! I also like the Mo Berg card. Such a fascinating history behind him.

Playball is owned by Bowman or a'm I misunderstanging something? in 1939 was Gaudy around or just Play Ball? Al Shockt laying on a bag!!!! 10 . Loyd Waner - 9. Carl Hubbel - 8. Bobby Doerr - 7. Bill Dickey , 6. Mell Ott 5. Charlie Gehringer 4.. Moe Berg -- 3. Hank Greenberg 2. Joe DiMaggio -1 so which cards would you rather have 1939 Carl Hubbell or 1973 Carlton Fisk? 1939 Lloyd Wanner or 1976 Jim Rice 1939 Bobby Doerr or 1974 Mike Schmidt? 1939 Moe Beg or 1974 Cecil Cooper? 1939 Joe Dimaggio or 1974 Mike Schmidt 1939 Ted Williams or 1975 George Brett?

The original name of the company was Gum, Inc. It was later changed to Bowman, after the owner's last name, when they started making baseball cards again. The Play Ball set only went up to 1941. The Goudey set was last produced in 1938. In every case I would take the 1939 Play Ball card over the other option.

@@WadeBoggsFan I would probably say 1973's are sweet Fisk over Carl Hubbell 1976 isn't my favorite set Loyd Wanner never heard of him I'd take Jim Rice Bobby Doerr My dad talks about him I know who he is But I never saw him play I'd probably take the 74 Schmidt Moe Berg Cecil Cooper over him first card by himself I have no idea why there are 2 Mike Schmidts up there in this case I would take the Dimmiagio probably Ted Williams over George Brett.
